Apart from the very high standard of the facilities this site was ideal for me as the owner of a motorhome because the site is within an easy walk of the town and is a starting point for many excellent walks.
Arrived on opening day, with the second beast from the East forecast for the weekend. Been to this site many times before but not since improvements which are super, so lovely and warm in the toilets and showers, even though -8 outside ! Very pleasant wardens, must have been hard for them on opening week having to deal with snow, ice and frozen pipes, they coped admirably. The weather kept us mostly inside for a couple of days, lovely and snug in the van though, but when the weather improved ( we were there for a week) had some good walks avoiding the drifts! Super big dog walk on site although the wardens did warn us it was very boggy, and it is full of rabbits!! Lovely 2nd visit to see the wild red squirrels at Snaizeholme . So handy to walk into the village for supplies and the excellent fish and chips! Hawes is quite local to us, and we love the Dales, so we will definitely be back. Super site.
We stayed in our motorhome during the Beast from the East MkII in March 2018. Despite the horizontal snowfall and minus 10C temperature the guys kept the roads and paths clear and the shower blocks squeaky clean somehow. Great work!
Because our water tank frost valve emptied itself we were not able to conveniently make a brew so had to resort to going into the Fountain Inn a 10 minute walk away and drink their alcohol and eat their food! Marvelous. The White Hart is a posher alternative but regardless, given the time of year it is great that a small place like Hawes has two good quality punb - the Board Inn wasn't doing food when we popped in and the Chinese and Indian were closed because of the weather (although we have used both in the past and they were fine).
There are dozens of fantastic walks into and out of Hawes but this time we thought we would spare the Mountain Rescue a call-out so kept to the riverside paths and took loads of pictures of the frozen-up river and spectacular snowy hills.
We will be back.
It’s the first time we have visited this site and we’ll definitely be back. Arrived on the 30th December without the kids and was very impressed with the facilities. Only a short walk into Hawes that has great places to eat and drink. On New Year’s Eve the wardens held a raffle for charity and provided complimentary drinks and food. It was very popular and we thought it was a great gesture to do. Thoroughly recommended!
First visit to Hawes for many years. The site is easy to find in a quiet position but within an easy flat walk to the village. The site is very clean with a good choice of pitches. The new facilities block is excellent, with plenty of toilet, wash, and shower cubicles. As well as the huge dog exercise area, the site also has a large play/picnic field behind the reception area that is bounded by stone walls, and in better weather would make a great place for families and children's ball games etc away from peoples pitches. The surrounding countryside is lovely. Hawes is a pretty village with nice pubs and a very good fish & chip shop. We bought some chips and ate them from the paper while walking around the village. Full marks for the chips!
As for pubs, we only visited the White Hart. It was warm and friendly with a nice atmosphere, and good beer so we just went back there again.
We will definitely go back.
My wife and I had been talking about going away in our motorhome for a few years at Christmas and decided to take the plunge. We have been to Hawes and because we liked the site and the village that was our choice. The site is great, the facilities are spot on, even over the Christmas break. The village is so pretty with antiques shop and some lovely pubs. The spar shop is just my cup of tea, normally a spar shop is your bog standard convenience store but this stands out from the crowd, it sells local produce including locally reared meat. The surrounding area is fantastic it's great for walking and so picturesque. This is one of those place that we shall visit over and over again, if you have never visited Hawes give it a go.
We spent Christmas on site , lovely friendly helpful wardens , really warm clean refurbished showers cannot fault it. Nice walk into Hawes town with lots of individual shops and places to eat.
We will be back again so long as the fees do not continue to go up the roof
We have spent 5 nights at Hawes Site over New Year. What a fantastic site, the new facilities are excellent. They are warm and most importantly the showers are adjustable and are HOT with plenty of water. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The New Years Eve Get Together in the games room was well attended by members with wine and nibbles provided. We had a lovely evening chatting to the staff and fellow members. The site is within easy walking distance of the town with shops and several pubs. We will defiantly return.
What a wonderful site, within in walking distance to the lovely market town of Hawes. Wardens extremely helpful, site spotless, facilities great. The dog walk, titled 'The Pawnine Way' is one of the best its huge and dogs can run free with other dogs. My two labs had a great time. My opinion its more of a couples site as this is a walkers haven rather than a 'holiday' area for families. But if you are a family of walkers its ideal. Great site.
We've just come back from a 3 night stay at Hawes Site. It's our 1st trip to this site & it wont be our last its a gem of a site. The site is nearly all hard standing and every pitch has a TV hook up on the bollard. We stayed at a full service pitch which in my opinion there are not enough of. The toilet & shower block is new and lovely and warm. The site is situated in glorious hill country & a 5 minute walk to the village of Hawes where there are 3 or 4 good dog friendly Pubs. Hawes is the highest market town in England & as such gets its fair share of rain and cold weather. There is a fantastic Dog walk field attached to the site & also there is a separate field for children to play ball games etc.
We really enjoyed our stay at Hawes and will return.
