Lovely Site

We spent 4 nights here in the middle of July and it's one of the best sites we've visited. We approached from the North West from the M6/A66 but note the road after Kirkby Stephen is tight in places so those with larger units should take care. It's situated well away from any roads (there's a minor B road that you access the site by) but you hear no traffic noise at. There is a working farm next door so you do hear tractors etc but is no way intrusive. On arrival we had a very friendly greeting from the warden on duty and given a map which the available pitches were highlighted so we could just choose our own. The wardens/site site do a wonderful job, very clean and well kept all throughout the site. Toilet/shower block is excellent and again is kept very clean (though disappointing that some people are unable to use a simple toilet brush). TV reception is poor so we hooked up to the aerial point on the pitch and the picture was perfect (they sell the cable made up in sufficient lengths at reception for £15). Mobile signal (EE) was good for us and had no issues there, good signal and 4G. Hawes is only 5-10 mins walk away so couldn't be in a better location and there you will find a good selection of tea rooms, cafes, fish and chips and pub/restaurants. Our particular favourite was the White Hart Inn but seems to be popular so I would recommend booking to ensure you get a table. The site is right on the Pennine Way so fantastic for walks based from there but there is always the rest of the whole Yorkshire Dales at your doorstep. Overall we couldn't fault this site, peace and tranquillity at it's best, we will definitely be back!

Take care from West

Those with large units should be aware that the approach from the West (M6) has some narrow roads/bridges plus logging trucks etc. All passable, but care needed in parts, approach from East (Richmond) much more relaxed!

Excellent site

We spent 5 nights, Sunday to Thursday, here in July. It is an excellent site with clean and well kept facilities, as you would expect from the club. The dog walk is excellent and worth visiting for the views alone - even if you haven't got a dog. It is a short walk into Hawes, a small country town, where there is a good choice of restaurants, pubs and cafes. We enjoyed a very good meal in the Crown (which is dog friendly) and one or two excellent cakes in the Bay Tree café - or rather outside the Bay Tree café as dogs aren't allowed inside. We particularly enjoyed the walk through fields to the Green Dragon pub at Hardraw. This is a pub not to be missed. There are many good walks nearby, some involving quite tricky Yorkshire styles! Tuesday is market day and the town becomes very busy. Farmers drive their sheep in small vehicles up and down the main road. There are a lot of sheep in this area. We had a lovely holiday here and will certainly be back.

Back again for another lovely stay!

Always enjoy our stays on this site. It is so close to Hawes and it’s dog friendly eateries. The cheese factory is always good to visit. The walks from the site, even for our aging dog are great as is the dog walk. It seems to invigorate our 12 year old rottie. The facilities are clean and very good.

Hawes Club Site

Excellent site with first class facilities, within easy walking distance of Hawes centre. Staff helpful and friendly. Plenty of eating places in Hawes, good but a little on the expensive side - most are dog friendly. Site is dog friendly, with good dog-walk / exercise field. Would (and probably will) use again.

Beautiful site but service pitches dissapoint

Whilst this is a nice site in a fantastic location, sadly all is not perfect. We booked a serviced pitch which is located in a small area behind the reception. This in its self is not a problem however, it is the furthest away from the toilet block and the area looks a bit neglected with the grass covered in weeds and nettles. You pay a premium for these pitches so I expect a bit more to be honest. Otherwise this is a great site for accessing the Dales and Hawes village is only a short walk away with plenty of choice for cafes and pubs. Also fair to say that Hawes is the most dog friendly village we have ever visited in the UK.

Lovely site

First time here, lovely clean site, lovely area,my only concern was having to queue for cubiclesale in the toilets at certain times in the morning,I know it's not practical but ideally another toilet block. Also because there's a lot of gorgeous walks around the area, the site would benefit from a dog wash, like the one at leek! But apart from the 2 small niggles, it's a beautiful site, already booked again.

Painful speed bumps......

This was about our sixth visit to the site which is superbly located, with the usual superb CC facilities and wardens..... My only issue with the site is the speed bumps at the entrance to the serviced pitch area. These are way too severe, meaning you have to crawl over them at about 0.1mph. Fine entering the area as you are travelling downhill, but coming out, loaded, with a caravan or M/H & trailer as we have, you have to slip the clutch furiously to power up the hill at such a slow speed. Our clutch was juddering like mad. These should be removed or resited at the bottom of the slope. This is a poor design feature that takes no account of the damage it does to your clutch.

A lovely site in a beautiful area

A lovely, well maintained site close to Hawes and plenty of footpaths in the area. The wardens worked hard to maintain the facilities to a high standard. The facilities block was of a high standard and kept spotlessly clean. Our only gripe was that the gents toilet block was closed early - I appreciate the toilet block is large and takes time to clean, but please don't close it early!
