Great base for exploring the beautiful dales

The site is superbly situated to enable you to walk all week without travelling far. The site is quiet and the staff extremely helpful and welcoming. We stayed on one of the service pitches which is apart form the main site and a particularly quiet spot on the site. With two very young children Hawes does not particularly cater for last minute shopping for emergency supplies as the two small supermarket shops close at 6.30! Best make sure you are well supplied with children. That aside it is not the fault of the site and we will return here as soon as possible.

Excellent Site/ Shame on those who spoil it

We have stayed at this site many times and love it more each time we visit. Autumn is certainly our favourite time to visit Hawes, the colours of the trees are breathtaking. A short walk into the wonderful Hawes with a great selection of shops, pubs and tea rooms. A must is the Wensleydale Cheese Factory. Lovely gift shop and cafe and enough cheese to sink a ship, all free to sample before you buy. Lots to do in the local area and plenty of walks for all abilities. The site itself is clean and well run by friendly wardens. My only gripe, on our second to last night some thoughtless individual had vomited in the male toilets, all over the floor, in several cubicals and up the walls! I felt so sorry for the wardens who had to clean this mess up. Totally unnecessary and unacceptable.

October 2018

We only stayed 1 night, it’s a lovely friendly site and the shower blocks, toilets etc and the general areas around the site are spotless. A short walk into the town where there are shops pubs etc. We visited the Wensleydale cheese factory where you can watch cheese being made and sample and buy the products. There is also a rope maker nearby that’s on our list for our next visit. We had our 3 dogs with us and there Is a great dog excercise field enclosed so your dog can run free. No hesitation in recommending this site.

Our second stay at Hawes

We visited Hawes in May earler this year after a return to caravanning after more than twenty years and decided to stay again. This site has everything we needed and the facilities are first rate. The shower block is scrupulously clean and reflects the diligence of the warden and his staff. Our boxer dog loved the massive field where she could run off lead to her heart's content and all dog owners agreed that this facility is a real boon. We were on a service pitch with plenty of space with close proximity to the waste point and 'bins. A wonderful six niights in Hawes. We have already booked for next year.

Great visit

Arrived for a 10 night stay, one night on a normal pitch and nine on the serviced pitches! We were down the bottom of the site which, at the time we checked in was quiet! Then I realised that the stink that comes from the farm next door was probably instrumental in this! We were lucky to move to the top of the site, away from the stench! Facilities here are first class although the serviced pitches could do with a rethink? Some of the pitches are way too far away from the taps so long hoses are required ! I witnessed two members purchasing said blue hose from the office!! And my friend borrowing some from me! It is a bit of a hike to the toilet block from up here, so plan your visit, with time to spare!

Outstanding

One of the best sites I've been on. Staff were lovely, facilities were brilliant and the dog walk on site was just superb. My first time in the Dales, and the walking from the site was just brilliant, lots and lots of long walks in outstanding scenery. The village is 2mins away and had a great Spar shop for everything I needed. What an absolute gem of a place to stay.

Great site.Pity about the welcome

We left Durham Grange Caravan /Motorhome club site to make our way to this site. We had stopped in a layby on our way as the roads had been clear and didn't want to arrive early, but arrived at 1155hrs. We were parked behind quite a few caravans that had arrived early. As usual, I got out and made my way to the reception while hubby waited in the unit as we have done on all sites visited. As I got to the reception a male warden came out and 'ordered' me back to my unit and to sit and wait until allowed through in order. He made me feel like a naughty 5yr old and was a little taken aback by his attitude. Another unit came and parked behind us and the lady got out and he 'ordered' her back to her unit. She was elderly and she was bemused by his attitude and called him a 'jobsworth'.(not to him,but to us) The warden stated that it was to make sure everyone got in the correct order. In all my years of touring ,there has never been a mix up.All the people in reception seem to know who is before them. This left a bad taste and spoiled the start of our holiday here. We have been to the site before and didn't have this issue, although our last visit was 2yrs ago.At Durham the week previously we arrived after 12 and there was still a queue and I made my way to reception as normal and was met with a welcoming smile and greeting. No ordering back to my unit. Chalk and cheese comes to mind. The site itself is great, near town and good walks in the surrounding area. The creamery is a must. Lovely cheeses to buy and the history of it was very interesting. The site itself is now quite expensive and for the money think there should be more security eg:a security barrier

That's it Gromit! We'll go somewhere where there's CHEESE

Well we did! We found more than cheese though! We found a fabulous site and our 'Gromits' were very happy with the dog walk (not so much a walk as a whole secure field for a good romp around). Doggy heaven! A..maze..ing! Obviously Wensleydale and Hawes in particular is known for its cheese and has a cracker (!) of an attraction with the Cheese Factory tour!. Wallace woukd be in 7th heaven! Wonderful restaurant there as well but sadly being market day we couldnt eat there as too busy!. Wonderful serviced pitches. All facilities clean and shiny...and very peaceful and friendly site overall! Hawes is a stroll away. Not busy apart from on market day (disappointing stalls though). The Yorkshire Dales though are just wonderful and we had the chance to go to the Muker Show which was quaint and fascinating in equal measure. The journey to Muker from Hawes was awe inspiring! We were only there for 5 days and there is so much more to see. With this fabulous base to see the Dales from we are already booked to return soon!. I have to say that we only returned to vanning recently and the standard of site so far is comendable. Just a slight note of caution if travelling on a Sunday....the roads here are a motorbikers heaven so beware as they don't travel slowly! Sadly one died the Sunday we travelled...and sadly he collided with a campervan. Anyway on a happier note I defy anybody to be glum around this part of the world! Do a lot...or do nowt. Its up to you! Now Gromit...where's that cheese?

our favourite site

we stayed for 7 nights in July. our second visit and most certainly not the last. everything about the site is perfect for us. Friendly wardens. Games room with pool and table tennis. the best did walk we have come across. A short stroll takes you into the village with several shops and pubs. there are plenty of walks from the site with east to follow routes. I can go on but really shouldn't as don't want too many people going and making it harder for us to get a pitch 😁
