Having read the recent reviews (rants) about arrival times, all I can say is a) read and note the email sent to you about arrival times and b) have a lie in/stop for coffee, why do you need to arrive before 1pm and then moan about being a queue? Sites are very busy this year, if you want to queue you know what to do! I arrived about 3pm and all was fine. Excellent CV19 measures in place. Didn’t encounter anybody with a clipboard, but the warden in reception was friendly enough and efficient.
The site itself is standard CMC offering, nothing to dislike, but nothing to get very excited about either. The reason for being here is location for Hawes (a bit touristy for my tastes) and the Yorkshire Dales (spectacular), and in that respect I'm happy to recommend it. The only negative point is some noise from the adjacent farm which could be a problem for those pitches that border the farm drive & buildings.
Covid restrictions in place
Well-located site, an easy walk to the village but not a great selection of shops. Recommend a visit to the Wensleydale Cheese Factory at the other end of the village. Also try to drive to the Ribblehead Viaduct on a good day.
Covid restrictions in place and not all visitors were adhering to them.

Another great stay
We arrived early, 12.45 to find we were 10th in the queue! The warden however was checking folks in and sending them off to find a pitch with a polite request to don a mask and visit the shop to pay, once settled in. Much better than keeping us waiting until 1pm and as such we only waited about 10 mins. The welcome was very friendly with helpful information about the COVID measures and pitch availability.
The site is clean and tidy and facilities very clean. We much prefer the system in place here, if there has to be one, preferable to other systems we’ve experienced. The site is well located for Hawes and other places in the stunning Yorkshire Dales, plenty of local walking routes and places to eat. We will without doubt return.

Great site, well organised
Very efficient check in, by a cheerful warden. Yes he had a clipboard but he was writing on the paper clipped to it...so seems like a good idea to me. Site was immaculate, although we did not use the on site facilities so can't comment on them. Walks from the site are stunning, from gentle ones across the lower Dale's to higher, more challenging ones.
Great little town, Hawes, very friendly and whilst it was busy, especially at the weekends, most people followed the guidelines so it felt safe. Great friendly bunch of members on site too.
Top Notch
Visited this site for the first time in September for five nights, what a gem. Lovely location with the village so nearby, wardens very pleasant and working hard to keep things flowing. The facilities are spotless and the rubber band system does work. Plenty to do all around.hardly used the car. Will be back....... Thanks C&MC.
not overly impressed
I too was accosted by the clip board man. Arrived at 12pm, I'm sure 12pm was the allocated time as it was at Lower Wensleydale where I'd just left. They didn't say anything to me for arriving at 12pm. Meanwhile number 2 in queue, number 1 informed me office is closed until 1pm. I asked why,he said don't know there is a notice on the door. So i thought given all they do is tell you to go find a pitch, that's what I did, didn't need to be told. Warden chased me and told me off, said due to covid all sites open at 1pm, he said it was my fault for not reading the notice on website. Well, I have since looked for the covid notice regarding opening times for all sites and can't find anything about it. He was way over the top about it. Being grown up I said not to worry and apologised, but he did go on rather a lot. I asked can I fill up with water while I wait? No, go back to the gate and wait. Others arrived behind me, none of them knew of the 1pm arrival time.
Do we really need a rubber band to go to the toilet? Strange how toilet doors need to be pulled towards you when leaving yet when entering can be pushed with forearm. Many don't wash hands, band or no band
Whoops
A lovely site, a friendly if rather old-Caravan Club-style directive welcome by the Man With The Clipboard.
Told on arrival that the toilet block was shut. My prior ignorance of this was MY fault apparently as I did not read my emails or look at the foot of the Hawes entry in the CC site prior to arrival. Well, I was on another CC site and there was no wifi there and I do not rush to read emails while on holiday.
A drainage problem, we were told and given a £3/night discount.
No sign whatever of work in progress to remedy this over the 4 nights we were there.
End of negatives. A lovely site and well situated as other reviewers have said. I will return. When the drains work.
Staycation
Just spent 3 days at Haws. Fabulous location for exploring Hawes and the Yorkshire Dale's. Wardens were very nice on arrival. Having a great field to walk your dog is a bonus. Lovely clean tidy site, it was busy but still lovely and quiet. Hawes village is only a 10 minute walk with losts of cafes and pubs. We also walked to Asgill waterfall and to Hardraw Force which were absolutely lovely. If you want a drive out in the car then Malham Cove is worth a visit. We will definitely be back for a second visit in the future.
A Lovely Site To Visit
What a great site. We had never visited here before. The facilities were spotless and while cleaning was being done you had the use of the disabled toilets. Wrist bands in use for the shower block. We were issued with these at Barnard Castle with your pitch number on. Here you were just given one each which meant you didn't always leave with your band as someone else had taken yours so I always sanitised mine on leaving the shower block. We didn't have a dog, but the field for dog walking was brilliant with a nicely positioned seat to admire the view. Follow the river across the fields to Hardraw was a lovely walk. The town was a joy to visit. Cocketts butchers and bakers were great. Lots of independent shops and a very busy chippy. On our last night we ate at the White Hart. Very good. We will certainly return to this site.
Great Site, Staff are so friendly and hard working
Recently holidayed at Hawes Caravan Site for the third year in a row. Can see why we keep returning. The site is superbly located for the busy town of Hawes. 6 minutes walk to be precise.
Given that the site had just reopened I must make comment on the hard working wardens and staff. All were very friendly in very testing times.Greeted on the waiting point yards from reception by a very friendly and helpful warden who highlighted some changes to toilet block use due to current restrictions. Booking in was seamless and again the lady was very pleasant and helpful. Toilets and site are immaculately kept, again, thanks to the staff.
Hawes itself offers several pubs, a great chip shop, an Indian restaurant and numerous tea shops. Also the Wensleydale Creamery is always worth a visit ( and a meal in their Calverts Restaurant if you book). Many great walks from the campsite are accessible too. Hopefully return next year. Many thanks
