Had 2 consecutive weekends with parents having week stay in between
Site is great location, dog field and walks close by.
Our stay was ruined by over officious wardens. I had rang in advance to check if parents who are members were ok to to take over caravan Mon-Fri and we would return to tow home, advised no problem and just to remind on arrival . When we did arrive we were criticised over change over and told we should have rang in advance or made 2 bookings? Despite our explanation my parents (who are in 70’s) were subject to same criticism when they arrived ?? I appreciate the need to record visitors and work differently due to covid but not to be spoken to like children
Closing of all toilets, male/female and including disabled at same time is unnecessary and could be managed better and with more consideration for those who struggle to use own facilities. To have no facilities open when they could be is unacceptable.
A Special Place
Our first visit but not our last! One of our top 3 places on the CAMC sites. It was just so chilled and relaxed we had a perfect pitch, everywhere was spotless and Covid secure, the sun was shining and we were just in heaven there. A perfect little cycle into the lovely little town. A picturesque walk to Hardraw Force where wild garlic was growing in abundance. We dont have a dog but the Pawnine Way brought such a smile to my face. Hope we get to visit again soon to this special place
Excellent Location & superb dog walk, the rest is not so good.
Brilliant location - Hawes is only a couple of minutes away on foot, so excellent if you are in a Camper Van & just want to leave it parked up.
The dog walk is the best we have seen on a C&MH club site, plenty of room for the dogs to run off the lead & securely fenced.
After that it goes down hill a bit -
Toilets are shut at 9.45, there is no alternative provision at all. I don't understand why not every other site manages to keep the disabled toilet open.
The neighbours dogs, if you are parked to the right of the entrance road you are right next to the farm, the farm dogs bark every time some one makes noise. They barked almost continuously from our arrival at 3.30pm through till 9.30pm
The cows, you are right next to the cow shed, I didn't realise cows could make so much noise, they start at 5am so don't expect a lay in.
The dogs, the cows woke the dogs up.....
The smell, being right next to the cow shed brings a certain aroma.
The trees, I reckon its going to take longer to remove the sap that dripped from the trees along with the pigeon guano ( guess what's nesting in the trees) than we actually spent on site.
The proper hard hardstandings. Ive actually managed to bend more rock pegs on this one stay than in my previous 12 years of camping put together. They take a lot of banging in - see previous note about noise making the dogs bark....
The tight pitches - I see many have been downgraded to no awning - they pack them in tight here & it feels like a carpark.

Good Stay
We used the serviced pitches for a short two night stay, they are excellent and probably the best we have used. The pitches are separate from the main site, spacious and peaceful with views from most, much like a CL. Hawes has plenty to offer, we have visited before, however the pubs were fully booked up for meals so we missed out. We visited Cafe Curva with our dog and can recommend it as an excellent alternative. I had a look in at the Wenslydale cheese place, but the cheese is cheaper in the very good local deli. Nice cafe at the cheese place but outside only with a dog and not much shelter from wet weather. Can recommend Hawes for long or short stays.
Hawes - great site for walking
Usual club site, good facilities block, very clean but shuts rather early 9:45. Given a key for entry to facilities so need to pitch up and check in with reception before you try to enter. We pitched on the left hand side of the road as you drive in which was further away from the farm, not sure if it would be noisier if you were on the same side as it. Hawes is a lovely village with a Spar shop, butcher & baker as well as a chees factory so no problem getting supplies. From site it’s less than 5 mins into village and there are loads of walks direct from the site. Had a great 3 nights and would definitely return here again.

3 nights in the rain
Had 3 nights in May
Turned up at about 6 they had rang me to see if all was ok and booked me in when I arrived, very friendly. Lovely quiet site but next to a working farm with typical farm noises. Pitch not quite flat but a leveling ramp sorted that. Good clean facilities but due to covid restrictions had quite a wait for a shower. Ideal location 5mins walk to Hawes and 30min walk to Hydraw force.
A Fantastic Location for Local Hiking
For 7 days I found this site to be perfectly-situated for hiking around the area and up the hills which form the lengthy valley it sits in.
A week after the April re-opening, arrival was efficient and flawless with an outside 'meet and greet'; quite a few pitches will require effort of some kind to achieve even something approaching a level situation. Facilities (no shower access as yet), wifi/TV via bollard output etc were all totally acceptable and cleaned with clearly great effort and proficiency !
A non-sensical policy (seemingly not made properly from 'up high') meant that until I, and a few others apparently, queried it face masks were not required in the facilities blocks; by midweek that was corrected...My motorhome always stays parked at sites, so Hawes CMC was ideal for long-distance hiking/climbs as very decent circular routes could be supplemented with 'return' routes - by taking advantage of a one-way bus trip using the excellent local service available from the town centre; a planned bus/rail/bus day out was aborted as timetables were still in flux !
NB that few routes will offer protection from rain/wind - thankfully my stay was about as perfect as it can get with sun/light winds !
Yorkshire Idyl
Beautifully clean and well-run site. The wardens and staff could not have been more helpful friendly and pleasant, even helping to book an extension to our stay! We stayed on a serviced pitch which was located in corner of the site being closest to the river Ure with lovely views along it and into the hills. A good spot to cycle from, if you can tolerate a few hills, and bracing walks straight from the site.
We visited The Yorkshire Dales Brewery in Askrigg, where there is an outdoor beer garden. Enjoyed sampling their range of real ales, and very good value G & T!
A great location that requires more visits.
lovely and peaceful
I really enjoyed my stay at Hawes. I wasnt expecting the B roads into it from the M6, so parts where a bit hairy with the wagons coming the other way. it was a lovely site, well laid out, with plenty of space between pitches. I picked a lovely little corner spot near the dog walk, and all i could hear was bleating baby lambs, it was lovely. Staffr were helpful and very friendly. The bathrooms were spotlessly clean, with a band system operating to minimise the amount of folk in there. Showers closed on my visit, so cant comment on them.
Site is within half mile of Hawes, which has some lovely shops to mooch in. Some where still closed, but there was plenty to see and lots of walkers and bikers around. The weather was brilliant, which just made my first trip out perfect.
Fantastic site
We've just had a lovely 2 night stay at Hawes in our VW camper. The site is spotlessly clean which I appreciated especially due to COVID. The site owners were lovely & friendly. The site is in a great location surrounded by trees & hills & only 5 min walk into Hawes, which is a pretty village with lots of pubs cafe's with outdoor seating & a great chippy. The wenslydale cheese shop is a must visit, & we walked to Hardraw falls which was lovey. Can't wait to visit this site again.
