Beautiful setting, shame about the wardens!

Beautiful site in lovely village. Found wardens unhelpful and not the usual friendly people we have always found over the years. I had a leak on my caravan roof… water coming in badly with heavy rain . Warden refused to allow me to borrow stepladder ( health and safety) or offer help. We always Felt like we were trespassing when going in shop ! No friendly chat …. Very strange atmosphere. However don’t let this put you off site. It’s gorgeous and the wardens change around !!

Great site, great location.

Busy but great site. Stayed on the serviced pitch area which was quiet and not as busy as the general site. Wardens worked hard and all facilities clean and tidy. Very handy for Hawes, good fish & chips in village.

Great location for the village

We stayed in one of the lower pitches near the farm and didn't experience the same issues as others have mentioned re noise and smell it is a location in the countryside after all, yes the farmer was back and fore but we personally did not find it a problem. Great location for access to the village and its array of shops and places to eat and some nice walks in the immediate area. The road in from the M6 is a bit of an issue as its very narrow in places and we have a fairly large motorhome so whilst its not far in terms of miles you do need to exercise a fair bit of care on the narrow lanes and beware they are a bit overgrown in places our windows have picked up a few scratches. Staff on site were very friendly. Was particularly impressed with the amenity block very modern and spotless.

The Hawes Heatwave

We were lucky enough to visit Hawes during a heatwave, so are aware that our experience of the site and the town may be slightly different from the norm. Nevertheless, we will be back, and will be happy to experience the site and Hawes itself in the wind and the rain that is more likely in that area. The site is positioned perfectly for walking and cycling direct from the site, and shops and restaurants are also within a few minutes walk. The staff are friendly and put themselves out to help us extend our stay during a particularly busy ‘staycation’ period. We visited Ribblehead Viaduct, Hardraw Force (Hardraw Dribble during our hot weather visit), Dent (beware single track roads with passing places), Ingleton, Askrigg (think All Creatures Great and Small ) and Aysgarth Falls. Cycling is great, but be prepared for plenty of ups and downs……. All in all, a great site. We have a small camper, so accessing the area was no problem, but I imagine that people with bigger motor homes or caravans might find the final few miles before arrival would need some care.

Ideal way to pitch a caravan

We have visited this site a number of times. We especially liked the way the vans were sited. Instead of in the middle of the pitch the site is in the corner. This really suited us. The site was well maintained and the wardens lovely and friendly. It is only a short walk into Hawes which is a nice little town. Unfortunately it was particularly smelly this time this was due to the nearby farm. The animals made a lot of noise but this is to be expected. The smell did spoil our stay.

Short stay but lovely

Great site to visit and in a super location although depending on your route it can be a hairy drive so plan ahead! Gorgeous surroundings and easy access to everything & for those that love walking and cycling it must be heaven! The town itself was very busy during our stay but that's to be expected and whilst the site was full, where we stayed it didn't feel crammed in. Toilet block was spotless and looks very new. Water and waste easy to locate and again, spotless. As for a previous comment about a screw being missing on a gate, happy to report to that sad person its been sorted, so you can sleep easy now! Staff are brilliant and very helpful.

Avoid pitches backing onto the farm!!

Disappointed with this site. It certainly wasn't as tidy and well kept as some other CAMC sites we have stayed on and in the 4 days we were there we never saw any maintenance work being done on the grounds. The hedges between the pitches are practically non existent and need re planting! Hence hardly any privacy if you back onto another pitch. But the very worst thing is there are a handful of pitches that back right up to the adjacent working farm and one of these is pitch 19 which we inadvertently chose and didn't realise how bad it would be. The smell was awful and we had a constant battle with flies. As its a working farm the farmer was constantly coming and going on farm vehicles and the dust was terrible. Then there was the noise of the sheep as he moved his stock around and sheared them!!! It was total bedlam at times! I understand this is not the farmers fault but the site should advise people of this or even better do not let these pitches out. On a positive note about the site is that it's an easy 10 minutes walk to lovely Hawes and we will return but not have a pitch backing onto the farm!

The first time I have been disappointed by a club site

Please don't get me wrong, this site is in a great location with easy walking access to Hawes. However since our last visit a few years ago, the maintenance of the site just doesn't seem as good, the site felt un-loved. A couple of examples: 1. The catch to the gate for the dog walking area was broken, meaning an off the lead dog could potentially escape, it was just missing a screw which would be a 2 minute fix, 2. All the inspection covers to sewers around the toilet block were missing the screws meant to keep them in place. Toilet cleaning seemed to take an eternity (compared to other club sites), I appreciate that there are COVID restrictions but other clubs sites seem to be coping better.

Great location

Very busy site and one of the more expensive ones. Toilets and showers spotless as you would expect from CAMC, although disappointing that ALL were closed from 0945-1100 for cleaning. Serviced pitches quite a way from the toilets and showers. Quite a walk into Hawes if not especially mobile. Village is beautiful though and lots to see and do. Great site for visiting the area.
