Lovely few days at Garlieston

Back for our third visit this year Favorite of all our sites  so far  The most peaceful relaxing place and a warm and friendly welcome from both the lovely wardens and locals The village pub serves good quality reasonable priced food and the carvery on a Sunday is well worth the price , booking being advisable as it is very popular The surrounding walks are gentle and scenic and for those with dogs it is a real haven sadly can,t return this year but at the top of the list for next years outings

Our favourite haunt

Yet another fabulous short stay on the Machar peninsula. Well kept site, beautiful floral display. Wardens are as friendly and helpful as you will find anywhere. Not to mention a great pub on the doorstep.

Great Weekend at Garliston

Whats not to like? we had a fab weekend here, the weather was lovely, the wardens were lovely, the locals also lovely, a great pub that serves great food, i can highly recommend the Haddock, (not for the faint hearted) and the service was second to none. To be so near the sea is so nice, a must for bird watchers, and walkers, a lovely sandy cove is about a miles walk away. We shall certainly return here when it reopens next year, such a shame that its not open all year round.

Things to do

Site was quiet as was the village. However go a little way away and there are 2 9 hole golf courses, 1 of which is interesting when there is a wind! Travel up to Newton Stewart and go a little further and there are walks at Kirroughtree and if you wish there seem to be interesting off rode cycle rides. There are some smaller walks starting in the village as well. All of which with the added friendliness and helpfulness of the wardens made it a good holiday.

Pretty Garlieston

What a lovely site ! A nice harbour site or a sun drenched walled garden. We chose the walled area. Lots of space peace & quiet. Facilities spotless & staff so friendly. The floral display is a credit to all, why have they no awards for this ? a wee gem beside the sea.

Really enjoyed my stay

Had a smashing few days at this lovely site, right on the edge of the bay. We were going to the Wigtown Book Festival which was about 20 mins away. It's a great site, quiet, peaceful, open aspects, v friendly and welcoming staff, and a happy campers. Some great walks round about, and we had a v good meal at the local pub The Harbour Inn with 4 friends last night - couldn't fault it. We will definitely be back! Plus the wardens have the best flower display we have ever seen!

Crowded

We were lucky to get a pitch over looking the harbour. The view from the front window was excellent. However this came at a price. The pitches were extremely close. Vans further back did not have the views so naturally people came onto the front pitches to see the birds and views. We did two walks from the site but that was it. A car definately needed for a longer stay. As still active long retired  oldies it felt a site for the sedentary.  Seen from a distance the site rather spoils what is otherwise a picturesque village.

Great little site!

It is most unexpected, to be on the sea front yet feel sheltered by this cosy picturesque little site, with its beautiful flowery entrance, wonderful helpful wardens, and great cleanliness. The site is kept in tip top condition, and it not only overlooks the bay which has a stony beach, it also overlooks the picturesque village front of Garlieston itself. There is the Harbour Inn within short walking distance that serves lunches and evening meals, as well as friendly locals at the bar. We stayed 11 nights, and enjoyed every moment. Dumfries and Galloway is not a typical tourist destination, but it is worth taking time to explore it because it has some beautiful corners, so all in all we had a great time, and I have a feeling that we will be visiting this site every year now, because it's such a special little place.

Wish we had stayed longer

We stayed here for one night at the end of a two week tour of Scotland, and we really wish we had been able to stay longer. The site is beautifully situated, quiet, clean and with great views. We know we are going to have to go back..........soon..

Restful Holiday

The site is kept beautifully clean and tidy. There is a real sense of pride. Wardens are very friendly. Lots of nice walks from the site. Little post office in the village has your basic provisions. Will be back
