garlieston review

After a very relaxed, and peaceful break at garlieston, I thought for the first time i have to leave a review. The site, town, and surrounding areas are absolutely beautiful. There is a lovely pub in the village that does extremely well priced meals, that would satisfy any hungry travelers cravings. They also allow dogs, ( even my 11 stone bullmastiff ), which is a blessing for anyone that doesn't want to leave their four legged companions for to long in the van. The facilities are absolutely spotless, and well maintained. the couple that run the site are very pleasant and always eager to please, and help wherever, and whenever they can. Nothing is a problem and they are always smiling. The surrounding countryside is beautiful Scotland at its best, rolling hills and beautiful sea views. The roads are quite quiet, for cyclists or walkers who don't want to stray off the main thoroughfares, and for those that do there are great hill walking, or off road cycling routes. There is a bit of everything, for everyone at garlieston, and i would recommend this site to anyone. Now just to try and find another one like it !!!!!!!!!!!

Visit Prior to Easter 2017

We had 3 nights at this site. We were able to have a pitch right on the front overlooking the harbour. It was spectacular watching the tides comes and go and listening to the stream tinkling under our window. This is a small site in a very out of the way place so it is very peaceful. There were no small children as there is no play area. We were able to walk along the beach to Rigg Bay and Gallow Gardens. We didn't test the local hostelry but it came highly recommended. The wardens work very hard and keep the place spotless. They are a font of knowledge about the area and what to see.

Great time at Garlieston

We stayed at Garlieston for 5 nights during Easter week 2017 and we really enjoyed it. The Wardens were really welcoming and relaxed. The site is very well kept and Ann takes great pride in her flower displays which brighten up the site. The location of the site is in a very nice and quaint little village which also has a nice local pub. There are some great walks from the site along the coast which could be cycled as well. We enjoyed exploring the local area and picking up local produce like free range duck eggs, award winning haggis and rare breed black pig pork. The site also has visits from the fish monger and a butcher which we made use of too. There is a fish and chip van that visits Garlieston on a Friday thats worth taking advantage of as well. I would recommend visiting the Isle of Whithorn which has a nice little harbour and walk up to the headland. It also has a nice community run tea room that serves great breakfasts as well as coffee and cakes. We will definatelly be back sometime.

Happy Easter

Arrived Friday afternoon and greeted with warm smile and a choice of pitches. Chose a pitch in the walled garden as we wanted to try our awning on our motorhome for the first time and didn't want to worry about the wind. Pitches are very spacious and the site was well kept. Plenty of places to walk the dog and sampled the local pub. Food was good and also a warm welcome. The site toilet/ shower block in the walled garden was cosy, clean and warm and the shower's were very good. Would recommend this site to family's or couples. If you get the weather it will be well worth your journey.

Perfect Week's Break

Arrived on 8th April from Perth for a week's break. The location of this site is stunning! Everywhere was clean and tidy. There isn't much to do in Garlieston itself, but perfect place if you're looking to get away from it all. The fresh fish van appeared on the Tuesday, with an impressive selection, and there was also a fish and chip van in the car park outside the site on the Friday. This is a great place for dog people, like ourselves, as there are lovely walks. In summary, if you want a bit of peace and quiet, and you're not looking for a bustling town, this site is perfect.

Galloway's finest

The club site at garlieston is a really pleasant site with nice walks and cycle areas close by. Facilities are very well looked after and the wardens are welcoming and helpful. The views over the bay are lovely when the tide is in,when the tide is out the bay is a good place for dog walking There are some nice shingle beach areas (only suitable when the tide is in)past the harbour entrance on the way to the coastal path to the Galloway house gardens. The gardens have a beautiful display of rhododendrons of many colours in April so well worth a visit. I think it's a great site for a short family visit as occupying kids for more than a couple of days could be difficult, but if you are looking for a quiet site with some walking or beachcombing, the this would suit perfectly

Lovely as Always

Lost count how many times we have stayed at this site , no matter what the weather it is always a favourite with us, made so by the lovely wardens Martin and Ann who always have a smile and time for you, even though they work tirelessly to keep the site immaculate. It will be a sorry day when they are no longer allowed to stay as they seem to just fit right in to the site. Ann works very hard at her flower displays spring and summer and it is a real credit to her. Martin is always at hand to help anyone who needs it and keeps the site manicured. We will be back again very soon. Maybe start a petition to keep them there permanently. Sorry this review is a little delayed but the new website shut me out for awhile as I have reviewed this site in the past. Pleased to see that little gremlin has been sorted CC

BONNIE

Once again a lovely eight days at our favourite site. The spring flower display when you enter the site is just a pleasure.Anne and Martin the wardens are a pleasure to know. Nothing is too much bother. They are a great asset to the club.Always a pleasure, until the next time. I have already written this review but unfortunately put it on New England Bay instead of Garlieston. very sorry; My mistake.

Peace and Quiet

If you want a restful vacation go to Garlieton, Site staff are very helpful as expected, Facilities are well kept clean and tidy, Some of the grass sites were not accessible due to previous rainfall and boggy ground, the club should consider upgrading more sites to hard standing. Easy walking along the shoreline, and history of the Second World War Mulberry Harbour tests. There is a store in Garlieston but if closed general shopping can be found in nearby Whithorn (approx 5 miles)

Should have stayed longer

Booked and stayed for 8 nights. Very peaceful with good walks direct from the site. a short walk to The Harbour Inn with its cosy fire and warm welcome. Martin and Ann keep the site spotless and are always on hand to give advise and suggestions. The village shop closed while we were there but the local garage is picking up on basics, papers, bread, milk, etc. With hindsight we should have stayed on for a few extra nights as we had nothing in particular to get back to:-)
