Good View and location

This is a nice small site where the wardens were extremely helpful and patient in sorting out my internet problems. We stayed three nights at this well kept site and will come back again. If the harbour side of the site is full we would have no hesitation in staying in the walled area across the road. There are plenty of interesting walks from the site along the shoreline and through the gardens of Galloway House. Although the house is privately owned the grounds are accessible to the public and the Rhododendrons and Daffodils looked lovely. If you love birds and wild flowers this is good site to go. We are not really pub people but visited the Harbour Inn twice in the three nights that we stayed. The first night was to sample the whisky after a walk on the beach and the next night was for a meal. The food was very good and the whole atmosphere was inviting. The staff were very friendly making it a pub that we would go back to. Overall we had a good three nights stay and will go back to explore further.

First caravanning trip a great success.

Booked into this lovely site as we are new to caravanning and it was only a couple of hours or so drive away from home. Firstly the location is beautiful with fabulous views across the bay and the site is snugly tucked in a corner of the village. The wardens were extremely helpful and always ready to assist with advice and tips. The site was pristine and the facilities are kept to a very high standard. Costal walks are on the doorstep (literally) and there is an abundance of bird life to be found on the shoreline, marshes and woodlands nearby. We even spotted a deer a few meters away when exploring the gardens at Garlieston House which are well worth a visit. The weather was superb which always helps get a holiday off to a good start but I am sure that we could not have selected a better site for our first trip. As I have said the wardens were very helpful as were all the other caravaners whom we spoke with during our trip. Come visit this site, you won't be dissapointed. Thanks to everyone for making our trip special.

Intimate harbour side retreat

This was our second time at Garlieston and we enjoyed it even more. Our pitch was on the harbour side and, as it was the last week of the season, pleasantly nearly empty. Very well kept by the wardens Martin and Ann, Garlieston is a credit to them and the club.  The weather was perfect but cold and with a brisk northerly breeze, so walking from the site let us explore the fantastic shore 6 miles in each direction.  Not ideal for families due to its intimate pitches and the proximity to deep water it is none the less, charming.

Last trip of the season

In October 14th - 22nd we once again visited the site and were once again really pleased with the site and the wardens. The backup wardens were working when we arrived and were very friendly and helpful especially when I managed to damage my caravan (my fault). Ann and Martin arrived back from leave and as usual were their friendly and helpful selves. We will continue to visit this site as its one of the best we have been on.

Near Ideal Location (for Us)

Stayed here for 1 night on 21/10/16 while touring Dumfries & Galloway in our motorhome. As we hadn't fully reviewed the site details before arriving, we had a wonderful surprise on arriving to find it so beautiful & perfectly located on the harbour side within the village. Within 30 mins of arrival, spotted 2 kingfishers & a guillimot, all just beside our pitch (no 7). Very well tended site with lovely flower displays at the entrance & yhe wardens very helpful, too. We intend returning for a longer stay!

Peaceful but not isolated.

Just had a few days break at this site. (Oct. 2016). Beautiful setting, Dog Friendly for walks, and sited in the walled garden, peaceful, plenty of space and facilities spotless, if somewhat dated. There's not even the roar of distant traffic, just the sound of sea-birds in the harbour/ estuary. Recommended

Peace and quiet in abundance

We stayed at this site for 12 nights in September/October, having read the review in the CC magazine last year. The site was busy and we were pitched in the walled garden. The pitches were very tight to access but fine once we were set up. The toilet block was small (2 toilets, wash cubicles and showers) and in need of refurbishment, but was adequate. We did not use the other toilet block on the harbour side. The site was well kept, neat and tidy and the wardens helpful and friendly. We were surprised that there was no recycling facility for glass either on site or locally. We did not want to put empty bottles into landfill, so took them home with us to recycle! The local shop in Garlieston is run by a rather grumpy gentleman, and only stocks the bare essentials. We shopped at Morrisons in Stranraer, although there is a Co-op in Wigtown which is nearer. The village and surrounding area is lovely with plenty of coastal walks in both directions, as well as easy access to Galloway House gardens which were very interesting. The village is like stepping back in time and although a road cuts the site in two, it was very quiet and peaceful. The Harbour Inn is 2 minutes walk away and served reasonably good pub grub.

Garlieston .Picture Perfect

I am not currently staying on the site but am staying in the village of Garlieston. I wanted to comment on the lovely flower displays outside the main site and the annex. No matter what time of year when the site is open, the flower displays outside are lovely to see , not just for the members but for the residents in the village as well. The wardens have also decorated the office for Halloween, it looks great.

A brilliant few days!

This was our third visit to Garlieston this year and we were thrilled to be back in such a beautiful place.  It is the most calming and peaceful site with lovely walks and cycling places - Galloway House Gardens are a fabulous place to visit.  The site is lovely with flowers everywhere and the view of the harbour, the wardens couldn't be friendlier or more helpful, amenities spotless as always.  We, and our two dogs, had an absolutely brilliant few days with great weather.  Will certainly be back next year.
