Mud Glorious Mud

My title is a little tongue in cheek, but the harbour area which the site overlooks is just muddy sand for most of the day. The tide comes in very swiftly making the area unsuitable for children. The site is good, the village pretty and the locals friendly what more could you want?

One night stopover

Beautiful location. The site and facilities were very well maintained. The woman on reception was extremely welcoming and helpful. Excellent food at the Harbour Inn (serves breakfast, lunch & evening meals), and is only a stone's throw from the site.

Peaceful

This was our first outing in our first caravan, and we found the wardens very helpful. It's a very peaceful and quiet site right next to the water with beautiful views. Facilities very clean and showers very hot and strong. We will be back next year as lots to see and do in the area

Perfect

For us, this was the perfect peaceful break. A bus service from right outside. A delightful pub serving interesting food, good beer and malt whisky. A bird sanctuary literally outside your window. The cycle route - flat - from the entrance to the site. As a grandparent, I would observe that it may be more difficult to keep the children entertained. The wardens are beyond excellent! Very well done to them for creating perfection in a site.

A very friendly and peaceful, rural seaside village setting

Just arrived home from Garlieston and missing it already. We have been going there for three years now, at this time of year, for the duration of the Wigtown Book Festival - just 6 or 7 miles away - and for 10 days the programme is quite remarkable and highly stimulating. The caravan site is pure escapism, a real delight, surrounded by friendly local residents. No awnings allowed on pitches along the harbour side, but with an awning there are good views from most pitches anyway. Garlieston is a very small purely residential village so we didn't expect there to be any supermarket or General Store - and there isn't. Wigtown is the nearest for general shopping and Newton Stewart has a couple of supermarkets and is only 14 miles away. But the local Inn serves very good meals and is so popular that booking is sometimes required. Can't wait till next year.

Warm welcome

Warm, friendly welcome as usual from Christine and Martin. We love this site and also Garlieston itself. There is a lovely little harbour, a shop, a pub serving good food and great walks and other nearby places to visit. We went to Wigtown to hear a couple of authors at the annual book fair, and to Whithorn and Port William. Can't fault the site or the wardens - congratulations to them for coming first in the flower competition. The display has been fabulous for the last three years we have visited. Enjoy the awards do, Christine and hope to see you again next year!

Relaxing

A wonderful welcome from the wardens, who couldn't have been more helpful and a pitch on the harbour side - bliss. The view was great although I can imagine with more severe winds it would be quite interesting - we had 40/50 mph gusts and that was more than enough excitement. Not really for families as there's not really a great deal for children to do. The Harbour pub serves good food and it's well worth a trip to Whithorn to see the Priory and Museum. The only reason I haven't given the facilities full marks is that they seem a little tired, that said, they were absoutely spotless.

Peaceful

My partner and myself have just returned from this lovely site we stayed 19th-27th September. We had a really relaxing time, the wardens were very friendly and helpful and kept all the site facilities and grounds immaculate at all times. We had a large hardstanding pitch on the bay side and enjoyed fantastic views. The site and the village are both so peaceful and tranquil and we found lovely walks from the site and out in the car of the surrounding area. We want to come back to this lovely site again in the Spring/Summer sometime as we didn't get to see and do all that we wanted to do. I would highly recommend this site if you enjoy peace and tranquillity. Thankyou to the Wardens for our lovely stay. Ps The Harbour Inn in the village do lovely meals and a very friendly pub
