A Great Site In A Lovely Area

We have recently returned from a twelve night stay (9 to 20 July) on our first visit to the excellent Freshwater East site and would like to pass on our observations. On arrival we received a warm welcome from the lady warden and were shown how to find our serviced pitch which was one of the ten available from the 134 on this site. The pitch was massive as are all pitches at the top end with plenty of space for caravan, awning and parking, really nice. This is a quiet site split into several areas screened by trees and served by two toilet/shower blocks. It appears that the site has been expanded and the second block added some time later. Both are modern and kept pristine by the wardens (as is the whole site) but I am afraid I must make a negative comment here. Along with many people, there are some things which I don't wish to download into my caravan toilet and although the men's facilities have ample showers there are only three toilets in each block which resulted in a backlog most mornings. I haven't had to que for Mr Thomas Crappers invention since my schooldays and indeed, during one muscle clenching morning I even considered if I could get away with using the dog walk! No criticism of the wardens intended here, they maintain the facilities admirably but only three toilets in an amenity block? On the plus side a new chemical emptying point was being built while we were staying so improvements are ongoing and perhaps this could be adapted into a four-seater outdoor communal toilet. . . To continue with my comments on the general stay this is a great site from which to explore a beautiful part of Wales while enjoying peace and tranquillity along with stunning scenery, therefore I give it full marks. Wildlife and nature are encouraged by the wardens and abundant on this site. There are foxes, owls, bats and apparently a black rabbit has been seen hopping around so take a few carrots with you. The nearby beach is just perfect and also dog friendly so if you want to leave the world of stress behind I recommend a stay at this site. Footnote: If you take laxatives I would recommend that you leave them behind too.

Relaxing

Just spend 4 nights at this site and I ajhve to sday that you would be hard put to find a better location and peaceful site anywhere. This site is for those who love peace and quiet and the beach which is less than 400yrds away. The site itself is in emacalate condition which is well kept by the very freindly professional staff, every time a staff member pases by they either stop to talk or wave. The facilities are first rate and very clean, there are a few essentail items in the booking in room at a resonable price no rip off here. The beach is emmense and dog freindly, it is also a very safe beach to swim in as it slops very gradually. A must for walkers is the walk down the costal pay to Barafunddle Bay less than 3 miles away, possible the prettiest beach I have ever seen also very quiet. I don't want to shout to much about this site as I will be returning and don't want it fully booked by seriously this is a must stay at site.

4 night stay with friends

Just come back from a lovely stay at this site. Facilities were spotless, staff were very friendly and helpful. An ideal site to visit the local area of Pembrokeshire. We took our dog and found it extremely dog friendly with a nice dog walk in the middle of the site. Lovely welcoming pub just up the road called the Freshwater Inn, again dog friendly with a beautiful view from the pub garden of the sea. All in all a lovely site, well kept. Would recommend without hesitation.

Lovely Site

We stayed here for 4 nights and found it a lovely site, quite long and narrow but with large pitches, it has 2 toilet blocks that are newly refurbished and were excellent, and the wardens do an excellent job to keep them in tiptop condition, the only issue for us was the dishwasher area water pressure is too high so spills out onto the floor making it a hazard, hopefully the wrdens have sorted this now. The site is really close to the beach so a 5 minute walk, we had several walks whilst here, if you go out onto the beach and turn left you can walk for miles and if you want a nice pub then just make your way up through the wooded area at the end of the beach and you come to a small road, walk upto the main road and turn right and the freshwater inn is right there, with great views of the sea. We found the food and drinks to be really good at reasonable prices. We also took the coastal path to the right and walked to Stackpole Quay, its a lovely walk although the bracken was quite tall c1.5m in places so challenge for the little ones, the cafe in the nationl trust area was excellent and a welcome break after a long walk. We went onto the headland to the next beach barafundle which is superb, and was very busy but its flat with lovely sand and safe bathing, then up the hill and around the headland to reach the water lilly ponds, this was really nice too as it has nice shady treelined paths. We made it to the old laundry in the park and it has a nice picnic room with toilets. We then walked back via Stackpole village and called into a lovely pub called the Stackpole. Inn for a drink and a snack, its a walk down to the quiet road back to the site. We will return as the site and the area is so nice,

Be prepared

Great site with super wardens but after stressfull journey narrow roads etc you do not want to find no local shops only back up steep hill and really nowhere to eat out only restuarant at local holiday park. Apart from that great site .Not sure about the peace and quiet during peak holiday as the site is ideal for families as the local beach is perfect for children. We stayed for 2 nights as part of a tour of all Wales was glad of the sun sea & sand and relaxation Maybe would not be so much if it had been raining. Are Motorhome owners and there is no local bus stop near the site . Just info to help your stay

Peaceful and easy access to South Pembrokeshire places of interest

Recently returned from a very enjoyable 2 weeks in Pembrokeshire. The first week (8-15 June) being at Freshwater East. Site and washrooms are very tidy and wardens are very helpful. Because the site is long and terraced one is not overlooking a large array of other units which gives a pleasing outlook. We chose to go on a grass pitch at highest part of the far end of the site where we could see the hills to the Southwest. Grass was a bit soggy near the road but firmer by the caravan. There is a very steep hill immediately outside the site leading up to Freshwater East village - this is wide and should not be a problem for most units. The road to Stackpole (turning right from site entrance) is very narrow but not a problem for us. There was daytime firing at Castlemartin Range which was audible but did not bother us. We enjoyed lovely coastal walks with wonderful coatal scenery - Bosherston Water Lilly ponds to Stackpole Quay to Stackpole head to Broadhaven beach - Angle peninsular, Green bridge of Wales, Marloes Head - Colby Woodland gardens to Amroth to Wisemans Bridge - Tenby - Cresswell Quay to Lawrenny. Very good Cafes at Angle Bay and Lawrenny Quay. The highlight of our week was a day on Skomer Island where we really got up close with Puffins and saw many other seabirds in their thousands. Avoid Royal George pub in Pembroke for Food - very poor.

Freshwater, nice beach

The beach is the best thing about Freshwater East, just hope for good weather. Peace and quiet: the crows start very early and go on all day. Facilities: new top toilet block, Bollard TV, about 5 channels, if using Sat Dish you need the top row of pitches to get above the trees. Dog walk , very small and IMO dangerous, not enough service points, no phone signal. Unable to order newspapers for the morning and the nearest shop is the garage in Lamphey. The shop on the next site doesn't sell papers. Cleanliness: CC standards, Location: it depends what you want, great for walkers, but for those with mobility problems the site is too long and steep in places. Pembroke is a small town with a ruined castle and there's Tenby. Families: There's the beach and a small play park on site. Overall: It's easy to get there, just follow the CC directions, plenty of supermarkets in Pembroke, fuel was cheaper than home. It used to be a cheap site to go to but it's not anymore, seeing that it has very little to offer.

Couple of things to consider

Have to agree with other reviews concerning the cleanliness, facilities and flat pitches etc.; however there are a couple of issues worth bearing in mind when visiting this site. The relaxed dog policy concerning access to beaches in this area means that this site is a magnet for dogs, never been anywhere with more dogs. Now as a dog lover that wasn’t in principal a problem except for those owners who appear to be happy to allow their dogs to yap incessantly, why they would think that is acceptable is a mystery to me and certainly caused some angst amongst some residents and was certainly intrusive. Now you may say mention this to the wardens or the owners themselves, well it was but on this site the wardens are fairly remote and you only generally see them on the tractor etc., and to be fair they would need to hear the barking to react, if at all. The second matter to consider is if you have mobility issues and was highlighted to me by a neighbour with those issues although not disabled. The toilet blocks for a good number of the pitches are a good walk and include a short but reasonably steep incline enroute, worth checking the site plan.
