Love this site but........

you'd better like the non-technological life! Firstly the plus points. It's quiet..even when full. The facilities are kept clean & the wardens are a friendly bunch. However there are some negatives. It's in the middle of nowhere ...so come prepared....the caravan club does have a small shop on the site but it only has space to stock the basics. There's no mobile phone signal (in fact I think there's a certain spot on the beach where you can get a signal but that's only if the wind is blowing in the right direction lol). Even the caravan club provided Wi-fi can be woefully slow. You will need a booster cable to get a tv signal though in the end we resorted to watching dvds in the evening. Don't get me wrong this is a lovely site & as been said, you can take dogs onto the nearby beach all year round but so long as you're prepared a restful break is guaranteed

Little gem

We recently visited here for the first time and what a little gem, the walks on the coastal path and beach are amazing. We have never been to Wales previously but are in no doubt we will be returning. Maybe a warning of no shop may be of help to some people especially those in motorhomes.

Too many dogs

Fantastic wardens who keep the site to a high standard. Sadly we found the sheer number of dogs on site and in particular on the beach , extremely off putting . This will stop us from returning. This is in no way a criticism of the wardens who are fantastic!

LOVED IT!

Arrived for a week's stay on 11 April. A warm welcome from the Wardens on duty, and a good explanation of all that this site had to offer. Facilities were exceptional - all credit to the Wardens. Site neat and tidy. Just the occasional 'thump' from the Army tank range towards Stackpole. The beach is no more than a 5 minute walk, so a great spot for families in good weather. There's even a DVD and book library/exchange! Requested a late departure from our serviced pitch - no problem, thank you. We will return, maybe next year.

nice break

we arrived easter 2018 stayed for 7 days had a lovely time very close to beach and reiterate other reviewers hope that that beach stays dog friendly year round. directions on site page were easy to follow and lead us and our caravan straight to site with no drama. the weather wasn't the best, but we would return in the summer if availability permitted, facilities spot on as always on club sites. the long house was scuffy but we went to thursday night curry with chips rice nan bread an 1/2 a pint for £10 includes soft drink for children and an ice cream. it hit the spot

Great site for walking

Came for 8 nights staff brilliant always had a smile very helpful nothing was to much for them ,even lent us jump leads when car would not start. Very peaceful site ,fantastic walks ,lovely beach ,bit cold for swimming while we were there. Freshwater inn great pub good food and drinks very disappointed with the Longhouse, needs a good revamp, very scruffy, went in and walked straight out again. Public transport very sparse at the time we were there, but have been told more frequently in the high season. In all a great site for walkers spotless facilities and great wardens.

Happy caravanners

This site came highly recommended and did not disappoint. The wardens were friendly and helpful even giving us some lovely new potatoes when we realised we had none and the shops were closed. The beach is beautiful, and we’re pleased to report will remain dog friendly. As mentioned the two local pubs (Longhouse and Freshwater Inn) are extremely dog friendly and the food is super in both The Longhouse do a fantastic curry night on Thursday - £10 for all you can eat home made curries, a drink and ice cream! Walking - what can I say? The coastline is amazing, words fail me. Walks to Stackpole, Manorbier, Broad Haven, around St Julian’s - all just spectacular. Visits to Pembroke Castle, Lamphey Bishops Palace and Carew Castle fantastic - dog friendly and super for children. Nearest shop in Lamphey otherwise Pembroke and Pembroke Dock nearby. Only downside the site does not do newspapers and the nearest place is Lamphey - perhaps something to look at?? We will definitely return.

Perfect location, quiet and great for dog walking

We came just before the Easter break and it was lovely and quiet on site with plenty of pitches. Only a 2-minute walk down to the large dog-friendly beach and sand dunes. There is coast path walks on the left and right one out to Swanlake Beach (also dog-friendly) and then beyond in Manorbier where there is a castle which allows dogs and a great dog-friendly cafe. The other way walks out to Barafundle Beach (dog-friendly) via Stackpole and the National Trust Boathouse Cafe (also dog-friendly). There are no problems with livestock other than one short part that goes through a horse field so the dog could be off lead the whole way - he loved it. The staff were friendly and cheerful, there's a helpful little cabin with loads of information and things to do. There was a fish & chip van one night on site and on another oven fired pizza - I think this is a new initiative but it went down well. The local pub/restaurant next to the beach TimeFlies in The Lodge is dog-friendly and very welcoming, great burgers and a good selection of ales. It was a great base from which to explore Pembroke, St Davids and Carew Castle. We would definitely stay here again if we were going that way.

great site for dog walkers, shame it may cease to be

I always write my reviews from the perspective of dog walkers who dont move the Motorhome once sited. So a perfect site for us is lovely walks directly accessed from the site with a hostelry/eatery in the local vicinity, and Freshwater East ticks all the boxes, for now. Across the road from the entrance lane to the site is the beach which is currently dog friendly all year round, we used this constantly as the dog walk provided on site was a mudfest. The coast path runs from the beach access path and we walked the west route to Barafundle Bay, about 5 miles, apart from the first field which had horses in the whole route follows the fenced in farmland so no issues with cows and all had proper gates, no stiles, makes it so much easier with the dogs. Nice cafe situated just before the last leg to the beach. Just outside the campsite is a holiday village which has a bar/cafe area called The Longhouse and also does a takeaway menu, we had food from their after our long walk and it was lovely. My caveat re the beach is that there is a public meeting at the end of April to discuss the proposal of having a dog ban in the Summer months. There are petitions in both the campsite and the holiday village for visitors to sign against the ban.

Oh dear!

We have just spent three nights at this site. I am really saddened to report that our welcome was not what we would expect from a caravan and Motorhome club site. Our journey to the site was subject to delay after delay and consequently a journey that should have been three hours took seven! We were shattered, hungry and anxious as we knew we had arrived after the office had closed. The sign above the names of the wardens says “here to help” I note this in an ironic way. However the entrance to the site is really wide, plenty of room for us stopped and two large vehicles to pass, and as there is no where near we stopped our rig and prepared to spend the night outside the gates. But no! Out came the warden, “ you can’t stop there.” We could not turn round the rig being too big. “ you need to go to the public car park and spend the night there.” To turn around the warden had to let us on to the practically empty site to go around the circuit. We went to the car park which is a two second drive, but is long and narrow and which also has a massive sign NO SLEEPING, COOKING, CAMPING OVER NIGHT. Which he must have known, added to this we could not turn around and had to unhitch the trailer with our little car on it to then turn the Motorhome and re hitch! My Hubble then went back to the office and after much debate the warden agreed that we could park up where we were. By the way it was also pouring with rain! The following morning when I went in to book in after the office had opened, the lady warden still carried on whinging and moaning. I am so disappointed we really were not in the way at all, we did not disturb the wardens late at night when the sign says not to, but rather they came out to us. They really showed no compassion or kindness but were really ‘jobsworth’.

Response from the Club:

Thank you for your review and we are sorry to hear you had a difficult journey to the site. The Site Staff have been in touch as they work hard to ensure people have a wonderful time when staying at their site and want to clear up any confusion. We fully appreciate that there will be situations where members are delayed on their travels and arrive late on site. That’s why we ask and advise members to call ahead if they are going to be late. This site doesn’t have a late night arrival area and as such the site staff advised the best option was to park just down the lane on the right where there is a large car park you could stay overnight. In fact there are two, one big one and a small one. The larger car park allows overnight stops. When you returned at 10.30pm they agreed to make an exception to the rules so you could stay in the arrival lane due to the difficulties you had been experiencing. The next morning the site staff advised that in future it’s always best to call ahead if you are going to be late as they wanted to offer their advice of best action to take in the future to avoid any difficulties in similar situations that may arise. I hope this helps to explain and we hope you enjoyed the rest of your stay at the site.
