We stayed here for 2 wonderful nights at the very end of the 2017 season.
What a gorgeous place!
The site is immaculate, the toilets & showers were so warm & clean, positively luxurious and the staff were incredibly welcoming & friendly.
We'd love to have stayed longer but alas the site was closing for the winter,
The place was so peaceful & quiet, but with loads to do & see a short drive away, Walks along the beautiful nearby sandy beach or the coastal walks, cycling too. An absolute Jem of a place.
TV reception was very poor fine with the booster but that didn't have any EPG.... never come across that before, which meant we could not set the video to record when we went out. But hey I'm not even being picky here I just found it strange!
Site wifi was well covered with a very strong wifi signal, but phone reception was very weak on EE network.
There is a holiday complex a short walk away that has a bar called "The Longhouse" you can get basic pub grub there at very reasonable prices & its definitely worth a visit.although it's more like a club house than your typical country pub. There was live music the night we went, which was also their Halloween evening & we enjoyed ourselves.
In short this was undoubtedly the VERY best site we stayed on our 10 day visit to Wales at the end of October & this is the one we loved the most.
Favourite site !
Spent two enjoyable weekends here again in October and despite storms Ophelia and Brian we had a great time. The site was mainly sheltered from the storms ! So sad that the site is now closed until next spring as we would have enjoyed regular weekend stays throughout the winter !
Another enjoyable stay at Freshwater East.
Another very enjoyable stay at Freshwater East, always hate when it's time to come home. Loads to do like Freshwater East beach, Barafunkle, Lily Ponds, Tenby, Caldey Island, Castlemartin and so much more. I really love it there, if you don't want to go far, you can spend all day on the beach. I know it's nothing to do with the site, but The Longhouse is nice for food and drink and they are dog friendly.
Sheltered from Hurricane Ophelia!
We stayed here during Hurricane Ophelia and barely felt it we were so sheltered. A quick 10 minute walk to Freshwater East beach and we were watching huge waves and swirling sand, it was really spectacular so it felt great to be so sheltered on the site. The facilities were spotless, we had a large fully serviced pitch and there was a good little on site dog walk (though we mostly used the nearby beach). On our last day there was a power outage so we had a few problems with the van (fridge, some plugs and the microwave stopped working) and the WiFi signal packed up but all worked when we got home so no worries. It’s a good base for exploring this part of Pembrokeshire with loads of lovely beaches within a short drive. Lovely site, would recommend.
Autumn in Freshwater
We stayed here during the first week of October and had a very mild week. The site was preparing for closure and only the hard standing pitches were bing used. The site was busy but it was still very quiet. It is a long site so when parked at the far end you are a good five minute walk to the entrance. The beach is a further 5 - 10 minutes on foot from the gate but there are no sea views.
The facilities were very clean and all were available. The team were welcoming and friendly.
One drawback or advantage depending on your point of view is that there is no phone signal anywhere on site but there is an excellent wifi service that you can purchase should you want to check emails. There is a public phone next to the reception. There is much to do in the area and as a motorhome owner we hired a car for our stay in nearby Pembroke Dock.
It was a great week and we would love to go back again.
Excellent Site
Can only review this as a couple.
Loved this Site! Great for the Beach and amazing walks. Wished we could have stayed longer.
Showers spotless.
Wardens helpful and friendly.
Hope to come back.
Loved it!
Personally speaking, we loved the site. The site lived up to the club's standards with friendly staff and tidiness..The Pembrokeshire coastline is stunning and Freshwater East beach is just one of the gorgeous beaches. As a dog owner we loved the short walk to the beach and spent many happy hours there. Others to be mentioned are Freshwater West, Angle Bay and Barafundel. The local pubs were dog friendly and very welcoming.
Going out of high season for the first time was a refreshing change. The site was busy but not that busy. As a dog owner myself, I always make sure that my dogs are not left unattended and are quietened when they are disturbed by passing noise. I also ensure, I clean up after my dogs. Sadly, others are not as responsible which makes me cross as it gets dog owners a bad name.
But all said and done, I loved it and would go again tomorrow. Pembroke and Carew Castles are well worth a visit. Tenby and Caldey Island are a must.
Still great but....
Just revisited this site after a few years absence & it was as good as we remembered. The nearby beach is a pleasure to visit and keeps the dogs happy. All the appropriate supermarkets are now available now that Lidl & Aldi are present in Pembroke Dock. We were a bit put off the first night by the nearby firing range going on until midnight & it would be worth having a notice up somewhere of the night firing sessions to warn people . There have been many comments regarding the new toilet block & its poor design with only 3 male toilets positions which caused some delays during our trip. What was worse from our point of view was the chemical emptying point part of this development. Having climbed the hill to reach it you are faced with lifting the cassette up over an 8 inch step to get onto the map tying point. Not good for my back!! You’d have thought the club knew how to design toilet blocks by now! It was also strange that arrival time is 13:00 rather than the normal 12:00 but it doesn’t matter as when we were there people were allowed on from 11:30. The wardens have little choice with the very limited access to the site and only room to park up 2 or so units at reception.
Yes we had a great break but there are now some wrinkles to be ironed out
Great site and wonderful staff but ridiculous number of barking fouling dogs.
Freshwater East site has a great location by the beach in a beautiful part of Wales and the newly renovated facilities are excellent as are the very friendly professional staff. The site is large and long and does take time to get from reception to some of the pitches. There is no mobile signal but our own Wifi system just about coped to keep in touch with family.
If you were on this site between 9 - 14th September and have 1/2/3 or even 4 dogs in a van, you need to consider your behaviour towards non dog owners and the rest of the guests and wardens. The number of barking yapping dogs was ridiculous as were the dogs that were allowed to foul on the grass between other peoples pitches and this includes urinating which is also fouling. At great expense the club has provided a dog walk for the purpose of taking your dog(s) to foul in that area so why is it so difficult to take them there?
Your selfish behaviour impacts on everyone and this trend is getting worse on club sites and personally I would like to see areas designated for members who do not have dogs and do not appreciate the barking and fouling some members seem to think is acceptable. It is not !
nice site
Enjoyed a 4 night stay very clean amenities. Lovely beach. Friendly site all round. The issue I had with on arrival being told to drive around and find a site which after a long drive is stressful. The site was full so there was only grass pitches remaining and they were on sloping ground after very heavy rain it was a mud bath. The second day we were able to get a hard standing but struggled to get of the grass pitch. The hard pitch made all the difference and made for a great stay. Would stay again if I knew I would get a hard pitch
