Ideal for NT member

We stayed at Freshwater East for 7 nights the last week of September this year. The weather was good so that always makes a big difference. The site is great and in a good location. The Stackpole estate is just fantastic and as a NT member car parking is free in 5 car parks around the estate. The lake walks are brilliant with you being able to take in the stunning Barafundle and Broad Haven beaches(Dog friendly). Take your walking boots and spend a couple of days walking. Pembroke castle is excellent. The only disappointment was the local pubs. The Long House had no beer only lager, we only went once. The Freshwater inn is well priced but quite a walk up the hill and opens a 6pm each day. The steep hill from the site is the only negative but not a problem just stay in second gear. This is a lovely part of Wales. I am sure we will go again.

Sixth stop of Wales Road trip

We started caravanning over 20 years ago and this year we have had a change and bought a camper van (trigano tribute) we thought we would do a memory lane trip and also take in some new places! In the early nineties we were lucky enough to borrow a caravan to see if we liked it and we went off for a week staying at many sites including this one. We obviously werent members in fact knew very little about the caravan club and to be honest werent made very welcome!. We had memories of a steep hill but thought we would return for just one night. Wow what a difference we loved the place small nature reserve alongside and the lovely beach virtually on the doorstep! We were able to stay another night due to a cancellation and as there is no mobile signal or 4g (we are with vodafone) the warden booked us on to our next site!! So helpful! The site is lovely facilities spot on definately on the visit again list!!

happy days 2018

Our first visit to this site and it was not dissapointing, in fact it was very enjoyable. We were on the lower level which to say the least was good exercise. We hope to return 2019 and maybe we could get a pitch on the upper tiers !! The site managers were very pleasant and helpful and there were plenty of places to visit within easy reach. The area makes for a loveley holiday and close to many nice beaches and walks. The site facilities were also very good if a little testing from the lower level. thank you the beeston's

Great Site

Stayed here 13th - 20th Sep. Surprised to see how many reviews relate to dogs but miss other useful information. We followed the site directions to the letter but don’t remember reading about the long 15% hill down to the site. Arrival reception was the normal friendly and efficient service. Site was pretty full but we were lucky enough to get a hard standing pitch due to expected heavy rain. Others we spoke to were unlucky and some grass pitches were suffering somewhat with tyre tracks. A lot of pitches were pretty level side to side but sloped back to front. The site is larger than envisaged and we ended up with a fair trek to and from the toilet block, both of which are fairly central. We found the Friday night fish & chip van to be ok but nothing to get excited about and likewise with the Freshwater Inn a short drive away. We would however highly recommed the Nash Farm Cafe just off the A477 near the turnoff to Pembroke. Great quality, quantity and reasonable prices. Seems that most vans had dogs as did we but we didn’t witness any anti social behaviour or noise during our stay. You can understand why it is popular with dog owners when you realise how good the access is to the beach and coastal walks. Would recommend a visit to Carew castle and Tide Mill and a little further afield, Freshwater West. All in all we found it to be a good site for visiting the South Pembrokeshire area and have nothing negative to say about it

A superb site

We stayed for a week and would have made it two but for the fact they were fully booked. Made sure for next year and have already booked. First thing I must say is that everyone is different, but I cannot agree with the last reviewer. Yes there were a lot of dogs about, but all I saw were responsible owners all walking around with their 'black bags'. The caravan club caters for all, motorhomes, caravans, bar-b-q lovers, children and dog lovers and none of these were a problem on this site. The site itself is superb being right next to Freshwater East dog friendly beach and of course in the middle of the national park. The wardens are doing a fantastic job of keeping it clean and tidy and are extremely helpful and friendly. The site is quiet and tranquil and I cannot wait to return.

Dogs and Owners

A nice site with clean and modern facilities. Our peace was constantly broken by the yapping and barking of dogs throughout the day and again at night. I awoke one morning to find dog poo in front of my van on the verge of the pitch and road. I did complain to one of the wardens who did pick it up and dispose of it. The warden said that they cannot do anything about it. My wife and I also witnessed a dog owner let there dog crap on the grass between pitches opposite our van. This was not anywhere near there own pitch and it was a pitch with a caravan with 4 young children who played outside. Owners seem to let there dogs roam on a long lead and on one occasion had to shoo a dog away which was sniffing around my van. Why do dog owners presume that others like there dogs? It is not the dogs that are at fault it is the selfish inconsiderate owners who should take responsibility and not disrupt others peace and enjoyment, for we have paid quite a lot to be here too. The Caravan Club needs to take control and not abrogate responsibility. As a long time member this is an issue witnessed at many sites visited and cannot see it improving. Maybe time to find more private sites with a no dog policy.

Lovely site and location but don’t visit unless you are happy to listen to barking dogs

A nice site site and GREAT STAFF in every respect BUT they declined to take any action about noisy dogs. We suggested that they mention keeping dogs quiet to owners on arrival but staff said that CMC Head Office wouldn’t allow them to, as they wouldn’t want to add to the list of rules on arrival after a long journey! We gained the impression that staff believe that Head Office is nervous about upsetting dog owners because of commercial reasons. Barking dogs were evident throughout the day but particularly early and late in the day, before and after the staff were on duty - hence they didn’t hear them. During the day staff were usually operating machinery and had ear defenders on! We were at the far end of the site well away from staff accommodation which is why they didn’t hear them. Staff suggested that we politely approach offending owners ourselves. We did this on a site earlier this year and were subjected to an very aggressive and threatening response from a defensive dog owner - never again. We like dogs and most owners on the site were considerate, but a significant minority were not. Could staff please be instructed/empowered to be proactive in tackling this growing problem, not just during duty hours. We experienced an identical problem on the CCC site at Keswick earlier this year. However the wardens there were proactive and spoke to owners before getting complaints. The dog owners on a pitch close to ours were spoken to very politely but firmly and chose to leave the following day as they were incapable of controlling their dogs. If this growing problem isn’t addressed soon it is going to spoil lots of holidays.

Lovely site, lovely weather.

Great site and wardens; we loved it. TV and mobile is an issue for some. Don't go to freshwater if you need to be connected! I found the wifi OK. Some of the dogs have been an issue and the dog walk on site is not good. We are dog owners and I think the number of dogs on site needs to be controlled. We saw 5 on one pitch! Also, there is a huge problem with inconsiderate speeding idiots!

Simply the best!

I just love this site. The peace and tranquillity with a National Trust Beach (dog friendly) but a very short walk away. Over the years the site has grown but has retained its charm. The wardens here this year really are all 5* and keep the place immaculate. They always extend a warm welcome and are so helpful. I've stayed 3 times this season already, relaxed in the knowledge that as a lone caravaner im in a safe haven. Its a child and dog friendly site. Its joyous to hear the children playing carefree in the playpark (i was pitched below, separated by a woodland dog walk) I heard one little chap saying 'this is my best holiday ever (he'd only been here a day). I can't wait to return, especially for a Friday evening as a local Fish & Chip van comes onto site. After a day in the fresh air its a real treat to have tea cooked for you and are reasonably priced too. Everyting is cooked fresh so there is a little wait but its a great way to get chatting to others on the site and make new friends. Only one negative, internet reception is very patchy so dont rely on it, take alternative media or download your kindle books before you leave home!! Trip 4 already booked and am eagerly waiting to return! 😎

Busy

Never seen so many vans in one place, like a sales yard. To be near a beach you have to put up with the crowds. Relaxed rules from normal club sites...... Credit to wardens keeping it all clean though
