Typical site with pluses and minuses

This was my second visit to Ferry Meadows but on this occasion I was only here one night. I have no reason to amend by previous review of a few years back which in sum concluded thus: I prefer the east side as it has a much more open aspect to it, but it has (or at least had - I didn't check on this visit) fewer hard standings and I won't pitch on grass. The west side can feel claustrophobic I feel as mostly the pitches are clustered in small sections surrounded by trees which overhang many pitches. This is anathema to me. There's plenty to do in the area with the country park and the Nene Valley Railway. Peterborough itself is definitely worth a visit, especially the under-rated cathedral. I did not use the TV point on the bollard and I got excellent reception whereas last time I did use the bollards and it was poor. The loo blocks are excellent and the warden was very friendly. There was a wonderful selection of Danish pastries and other goodies in the reception shop as well. Yum yum! All in all a good place to visit.

An improving site after years of neglect.

Been here for the past 30 years some good, some poor. always issues with early arrivals and kids on the mini Beirut side where the kids run riot all summer. Seems like the current wardens are getting a grip on both issues as well as dogs doing it wherever. Wardens say they get mouthfuls of abuse when they stop dog owners but really is this what we want. Our stay was OK other than yappy dogs constantly making a noise day and night as if owners simply don't care. We like the site hence 30 years but we see a decline in member standards and self opinionated extroverts. Glad were not wardens !!!!!!!!!!

Great location

First visit as felt it was a bit close to home. Lovely site and lots of walking with the dog.Beeffeater and garden centre 10 mins walk plus cafes on lake. Site well kept and it is only as clean as the people who use it.Wardens work hard on these big sites. Wish I had visited sooner and will make it a regular stop.

Lovely Walking Place to Stay

This is the second time we have stayed at Ferry Meadows, it is a lovely clean site and brilliant for plenty of walks especially if you have a dog, most of the wardens are friendly although one likes to be a jobsworth it would be nice to see wardens walk round the sites more instead of buzzing round on the tractors but I would recommend this site.

6 nights at Ferry Meadows

We arrived at Ferry Meadows on Thursday afternoon. Booked in and decided to stay on the annexed site as it had more grass pitches which we proffer. The site was lovely and quiet and we had one bay of around 20 pitches to ourselves. Within 24 hours the place was heaving. Unbelievable for mid October. We had a great time with the dogs. Lots of walking. The only point I would like to make is that the toilet blocks need a lot of work. 2/3 of the cubicles appear to be out of use and those that were available were dated and in need of work. A combination of old age and vandalism. We will definitely be going back in the new year. The wardens were great. Some of the best we've encountered.

Noisy, no lay in!!!

Fantastic Site, been coming here for years when children were young. Reception staff and warden were lovely. My only complaint is being worken both Saturday and Sunday morning by lot of different wardens riding round the site on their little trucks at 7.30am!!!! leaf blower at about 8am and constant comings and goings including a motor home setting up right next to us at 9am. Could not believe it, so disappointed.

Lawnmower Rally

Ferry Meadows is perfect for breaking up a journey from the South to North Yorkshire. However....... from the minute you arrive to the minute you depart, there is the constant drone of lawnmowers being driven around all day. We were at the site for only one night, and as soon as we got on the pitch, 2 ride on lawnmowers rumbled past. This practice starts at 08.30 and continues through until 21.30. The wardens have the bonus of ear protection for these machines, but for the residents it is not the case. One last observation is that the speed limit on this site seems to be 50mph and not 5mph. On a final note, best to end on a positive, the wardens are extremely helpful, and the site well kept. But then it should be with the amount of lawnmowers activity for 13 hours a day.

Autumn break

Stayed for 8 nights from 8 October. Incredible weather for the time of year. Wardens exceptionally friendly and helpful. Well stocked shop and still able to get fish and chips twice a week. Beautiful walks and train running once a week to Peterborough. Very relaxing site as well as not being too far from many attractions. On the downside we couldn't get the booster on the EHU bollard to work. Tried several but none would lock in. Used our own Aerial on the caravan but signal broke down regularly, so very little TV but not such a bad thing. Oundle is well worth a visit and surprisingly busy. Whittlesey is also worth seeing, so many side streets to explore.

Friendly Site

This is the third time we have visited this site. The previous twice were a long time ago. We were not disappointed. From the first foot we stepped in the door of the reception to our time of leaving we were very impressed. The reception lady was lovely. Very friendly and helpful, and ready to chat. The warden was a cheery fellow and they made a good team. The site was clean and the service areas were regularly attended to. The security arrangements were ideal and a must in this day and age. The location of the site with the walks and cycle tracks straight from the site makes it a must for young and old alike. The walk to the lake for morning coffee on the jetty was a real bonus. Hopefully, we'll return again soon.
