Great Site in a Great Location

We stayed for 4 nights in late February early March. Ferry Meadows is split over two sites, East and West, although in the winter months the West site only is open and this where the reception is also located. The facilities are of the usual high C&MC standard, and some of the pitches have also very recently been re-laid, as has part of the road around them. The very best part of the Ferry Meadows site is it’s location. Set in the Nene Valley Country Park, there are acres of open space for people of all ages (and their dogs!) to enjoy. There are also three large lakes (reclaimed gravel pits) with an abundance of wildlife to watch and enjoy. Many other reviewers have listed the many other advantages of this excellent site and I can only agree with them. Great Site in a Great Location

Excellent site - spotless facilities.

The site is truly excellent, really well maintained spotless facilities, easy access off the A1, so an ideal stop-over when heading north. It's also immediately adjacent to a wetlands wildlife area with great dog-walking facilities. Really could not fault this site at all.

Short break in journey travelling north

Stopped off here in February for 2 nights during half term week. We were lucky to get a pitch at short notice. The site was almost full. There were only 2 couples on duty and they were very busy. Quiet site in the evenings, and wonderfully placed next to Nene Country Park. The children's play area was small for the number of children on site, but had the other half of the site been open I am sure the play area over there would have been fine. The site was easy to find and lots of cycling options. We hired bikes from Rutland Cycling and our grandson got to try a bike with multiple gears. I can see us using this site again to break our journey from the North down to London.

A FABULOUS Site

This is our first time motorhoming and we have been back and forth to this site since December. Great for dog walks and easy of access to Peterborough City Centre and the walk to the local Tesco express is not that bad either! Down side, the fish and chip van not going to the site in the winter (I am sure it would have been profitable over Christmas, given the number of Mohos and Caravans in situ. The wardens are friendly and helpful. It is also lovely seeing the wildlife around the site (foxes, rabbits and squirrels), so if you wonder why your dog is ‘alert’ you can understand why! We will definitely use again, before heading off on our European travels!!

If heading south to London, this is a good stop off site

I have stayed here on 3 occasions on my way south to London. It is easily accessible from the A1. It is also a good site for families, being adjacent to Nene Valley Railway and the park. There are good walks in the park for nature lovers. The cafe, by the waterside, has a room where you can take dogs (they serve a wonderful breakfast). The cafe closest to the site has a covered area where dogs are welcome. Don't forget your club membership card as they offer a discount to members. On my 1st visit, after a long drive, I thought the welcome form the site staff was rather abrupt. I travel alone and accept that I had been anxious about finding the site, and so this may have clouded my judgement slightly, however I found the reception I received was lacking warmth. I was given abrupt instruction as to how to find a pitch and site my caravan.I was given no information about the local area and offers available. (Eg discount in the cafe and on the railway ) On my 3rd visit, I parked my small caravan with the post to the centre. I accept that i was positioned wrongly but decided, rather than manoeuvre again (i do not have a mover installed), I decided to stay in position. I have a very small caravan , was staying for one night only and was not erecting an awning. There were no other units on either side of me (at all - all other units were opposite me). It was pointed out to me, within minutes, that I was parked incorrectly. Fortunately the gentleman allowed me to stay in position but I felt that this permission was given grudgingly. I had noticed that a much larger unit (a fifth wheel) was also parked with the post to centre. When i approached the warden about this, I was informed that it was ok because of the position of the pitch, and the vehicle is hard to manoeuvre! I do understand that there should be regulations and that they should be adhered to. But i also think common sense should prevail and that people chosing to work in the leisure industry should be approachable, friendly and be able to listen before giving a lecture, as indeed most staff are. I have expressed these comments directly to the staff on site

Frustrated with dog owners.

Before I start I am a dog owner myself. We have just come back from Ferrymeadows after spending six nights there between Xmas and the new year. During the time that we were there I witnessed other dog owners letting their poochs use others peoples pitches to wee on, letting them poo on their own pitches, admitidly they cleaned it up. Although there is no dog walk on site turn left or right out of the gate there is plenty of space for our four legged friends to go about their business. I totally understand that it is an almost impossible task for the wardens to manage this, Other than he above this was our fourth year in a row that we have stayed over the festive period ( we've just booked for this year) and can't rate the site enough, it really is a lovely place to stay enabling us to recharge our batteries ready for the new year.

Xmas Magic

We took the decision to break from the norm and stay at Ferry Meadows with our two young children for Xmas. We were not disappointed and our children had a magical time. Took them on the Nene Valley Railway Santa Special on Christmas Eve, which was well worth the price, with copious amounts wine, beer, whiskey, soft drinks, chocolate and mince pies available included in the price. Santa was on the train too to add to the magic for them. The site wardens laid on free buffet and drinks in the early evening before a carol concert with the local church choir. On Christmas day Santa paid a visit to each caravan on a green tractor bearing gifts for all! The majority of vans were decorated with lights to illuminate the site in the evenings. I cannot praise the wardens enough for their hard work and attention to detail during our stay. Definitely worth trying if you get the chance.

THANK YOU :)

We stayed here on a seasonal pitch for 6 weeks as we are " in-between homes" at the moment.. Both Alan and Dee were so accommodating, they were so friendly and helpful to us. Nothing was too much trouble. All 4 of the wardens work extremely hard to keep the site clean and tidy. We would like to say a BIG THANK YOU TO YOU ALL.

Lovely site within a country park... great for dog walking

We only 'discovered' Ferry Meadows in October - this is our second visit and hopefully we'll be able to make it a regular thing. The site is very well laid out and the pitches are quite generous. The wardens do an excellent job keeping everything clean and tidy, they're friendly, always smiling and ready to help with information if requested. The park is great for us to 'stretch' our legs, with the choice of many different areas to explore and walks of varying lengths leading in all directions. Our two dogs love having such a large area to sniff and run around in, and, get very muddy... because of the poor weather! It would be well worth having a doggy shower installed on site and judging by the amount of visitors with dogs I'm sure if provided, a doggy shower would be much appreciated and well used, but lack of that facility isn't likely to stop us from coming - we'll just have to hope for dry weather!! Maybe our future visits will include walks further afield to the places mentioned in other reviews but we're quite happy to enjoy walking around the park for a few hours - it wears us and the dogs out! - then we relax/flake out in the motorhome for the rest of the day...
