Fantastic visit to Ferry Meadows.

Well what can I say about Ferry Meadows Caravan and Motorhome Club Site? There is just too much! My husband and I (and our dog) recently spent 15 nights here 10th to 25th August and we had a fantastic time. I was a little worried after reading quite a lot of negative reviews..........I shouldn’t of worried at all! Firstly, the campsite is excellent, split into two halves with one side focusing more on families and the other side being a bit quieter. We chose the quieter side on pitch 29, which was a lovely pitch with sun nearly all day. The only reason for choosing this side is our dog gets anxious with bikes, scooters etc. and we didn’t want him to bark and disturb other campers every time one passed our Motorhome. The site itself is lovely and very well run and maintained. The staff are very helpful and pleasant, particularly Alan who stopped for a chat or gave us a wave when he passed. He also gave us some great dog training tips and some great information about the area. The site and facilities are spotlessly clean and all the staff go above and beyond to keep them this way - which is no easy task considering the state some people leave them in. There is a good system with security when arriving at site which keeps things running smoothly during busy times. A fish and chip van visits 3 times a week and an ice cream van in the evenings. A few items are also sold in the reception shop, but to be honest I didn’t really look much in reception, just popped in on one occasion. The site is situated at the Nene country park which has an abundance of outdoor activities for families, couples etc. It is very flat for cycling, pushchairs, wheelchairs and the Nene Valley Railway is just outside the site. There are loads of places to walk and the pubs in adjoining villages were all nice with good menus (particularly The Cuckoo and The Woodman) so we never went hungry. Plus you can get everywhere on foot if you don’t mind a walk along some of the lovely trails. You can walk into Peterborough in about an hour (3 miles) and there are various routes to get there. We didn’t walk the same path twice other than getting from the campsite to the path we wanted. On the whole, we had a thoroughly lovely time and walked the legs off our poor dog, who consequently snored all night 😂. Basically we just chilled.......walk, eat, drink, sleep and repeat!! Fab site, thanks Alan and Dee, keep up the hard work.

Great site

We’ve been coming to ferry meadows for the last 5 years and love the great location and cleanliness of the facilities. The play area is great although I wouldn’t recommend you pitch near it due to the amount of children . I agree with other reviews in that children are left to run free whilst the parents sit drinking... we personally never allow are children to visit the play area without us even tho at 5 and 10 they are more than capable of doing so. The wardens do there rounds quite often and if they see any unruly behaviour they do address it... so well done to them..I had to to move a gang of children from the toilet block as they were playing hide and seek in them and my 5 year wanted to go toilet but wouldn’t... it’s a shame these parents don’t seem to care where there children are....there are a lot of dogs here too and not everyone cleans up after themselves so watch out..all in all well definitely be back again but no where near that play area!

Yet another great stay

We stayed at the site over the bank holiday weekend and once again found it to be one of the best sites we stay on. Facilities are clean and well maintained and despite numerous other reviews about unfriendly wardens I find them quite the opposite. Yes they will pull you up if you are endangering others by driving in excess of 5mph but so they should as there are many young children about. I do agree with another reviewer that on the more open pitches you are constantly worried about cyclists taking short cuts through your pitch but this is down to parents educating their charges on etiquette. The big plus of Ferry Meadows is its access to the Nene Park and its plethora of activities.

Disappointing visit this year!

We embarked on our yearly visit to Ferry Meadows which is a family meeting point. We have been coming here for a good number of years now. It is a 4hr drive from our base but it has always been worth it. So far our holidays have been fantastic. Facilities brill, staff brill and location excellent. However, this year has left us all with a bitter taste. The site has always been great for families and dogs for which we have 4. Yes 4 as I can already hear some members gasping. This year we brought our youngest dog 6 month old pup. She is obviously still in training and I'm proud to say the other 3 have turned out ok. Like humans they are not perfect. One afternoon we left 2 of our dogs in the van. We popped out for some food and left them 4 hrs. We don't leave them any longer. Upon our return which was before 9pm we were met with the 2 (new) wardens who pleasantly said ( I quote) "have you had a nice evening?" We thought that's nice so we politely said "yes tgank you" the male warden then said in a patronising voice "well you've spoilt it for everyone else your dog is howling" . We were very apologetic and I made my way to the van whilst he continued to have a go at my partner. Firstly we apologised for our dog howling which I know wasn't for 4 hrs as I asked another friendly member. Secondly this was not late at night. And thirdly there is no reason to be spoken to in this manner. I've held my breath until now. I wish the person who complained could have approached us before running to the warden. I did not realise I had to tip for around.the site. I did not complain a few niggts previous about the noise level coming from the rally field after 11pm nor did I complain about the same warden who the next day had the cheek to ask me and my family to move whilst he cut the grass around our van. I could argue this spoilt our peace! And he covered the bottom of pur awnibg with the cuttings. The other staff were fantastic. It was my holiday to and if people want total silence they need a different site. Good job they moved off before the family opposite arrived with 3 kids and 2 dogs eh?

Fantastic location.

We only stayed for one night on our way down to Kent but wish we had stayed longer as it was fabulous. The site itself was very clean and well maintained and the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The icing on the cake was the huge parkland that was only 100yds from the site. We will definitely be visiting again but it will be for much longer.

Open pitches an issue

Had a lovely stay at Ferry Meadows . Wardens work hard to maintain the high standards expected for a C&MHC site . The facilities and Nene Park are second to none. My only gripes are that some of the water/waste access points are not situated with defined access paths and I was appalled at the number of adults and children who cut across our hard standing to take rubbish etc . We had loads of children who thought nothing of chasing each other across our pitch, squeezing through a gap between the awning and outside table whilst we were eating (!) and running down the side of the Caravan . Maybe it is time for the Club to consider planting boundary hedges at the back of pitches to stop this cutting through! Ultimately, of course, parents need to step up and teach some basic camping etiquette to their children and teach by example . Maybe camping etiquette could be included on the club site leaflets ?

First visit, great family site, will definitely return!

We stayed at this site for 5 nights from 15th August with our 5 year old and really enjoyed it. The site and facilities are very clean and well maintained. All of the staff we encountered were happy & helpful and gave us some very useful tips given our newness to the camping experience! Our daughter loved the playground and we were fortunate not to have any issues in there even when our daughter took some bigger kids to task about their riding their bikes over the astro-turfed tunnel! We did, however, witness the warden very firmly challenge a group of children about their bad language which reassured me given the age of our daughter. The park on which the campsite is located is fantastic, huge flat recreational area on which you can play ball games, fly a kite or just relax, numerous walks and 3 different play areas all of which our daughter loved! A fish & chip van visits the site every Wednesday, Friday & Saturday evenings which was a welcome provision the day we arrived being a little later than we had planned! The only reason for 4 stars for facilities is because a larger dishwashing area would be beneficial. As it is quite a large site, with only 4 sinks, we frequently had to queue for a sink to become available. This however is a very minor point and did not detract from a very enjoyable stay. Thanks Ferry Meadows, we’ll see you again soon!

Lovely Site

This is our local site and we really like it, easy to get to, lots to do when you get there. It is a big site and can get crowded and noisy in the school holidays but it can also be peaceful. Once you get there you don't need a car, Nene Valley railway, Ferry Meadows, pitch and putt, golf, restaurant all in walking distance plus all the usual facilities a city can offer by car. Great for children and families.

3rd visit this year

Really like this site as right next door to the Nene Valley Park. 3rd visit this summer last week with my other half and 2 year old daughter. Only real issues this visit is that people are still not observing the 5mph speed limit even with kids and dogs around. Also witnessed motor-home driving round the wrong way of the one way system to beat someone else to the pitch they wanted! Usually have no problem on this site but it did seem to be a lot of out of control children on this visit-both myself and my partner witnessed in the playground (whilst pushing our daughter on the swings) other kids bullying other often smaller kids, quite a lot of fighting between them and also quite a lot of swearing! Partner did ask one boy to stop swearing in front of our two year old and just received a mouth full back from the kid! Despite all this we will be back-just not in school holidays!

Enjoyable stay

Just stayed at Ferry Meadows with my family for five days for my mum's 80th birthday. As a family we had two caravans and a tent on the site. We had a lovely stay and having the country park on the doorstep was the icing on the cake. I did feel that the cost of the tent pitch was very expensive £25 per night for two on a grass pitch with no electric. Other than this the site was great. Very clean, friendly and helpful wardens and excellent facilities. Will definitely visit again - but probably not with a tent!
