Accusations from the Warden

This was our fourth stay here as we love the location and it's great for dogs. What we have never experienced before is being accused of moving the pitch marker! We set up correctly with the rear of our caravan on the marker. Two days later, an abusive warden told us we were in the wrong place; promptly lifted the marker a good 10ft further down and told us in no uncertain terms "this is where you should be"! He also accused several others nearby of the same thing! What a nasty man. We told him not to blame us for the previous person's doing! One other person he accused decided to leave the next day. I really don't know what the answer to this problem is as, yes, they can easily be moved but - not by us!

A return visit-a great weekend!

Stayed here at Ferry Meadows for 4 nights last week with the other half and 2 year old daughter. Arrived Thursday and left Monday. Site very quite until 11.30 Friday Morning then it was like wacky races watching people zooming in and around the site trying to bag the best pitches- definitely not driving at 5 mph even though there were kids and dogs about. We love this site as very handy for Nene Park and the great play ground on the camp site itself. Only spoiler was the amount of barking dogs all day every day early morning and late in to evenings-not great when trying to get kids asleep (not anti-dog just inconsiderate dog owners). We will be back.

Horses for Courses

We have been told so many times on our travels about Ferry Meadows, and how great it was, that we added a visit for two days on our return leg of a trip to the lakes. Its the first site we have ever visited that had a member of staff at the barrier, telling us the system to queue and check in. My wife was told to check in while i waited in the drivers seat. She was told which area we were to choose a pitch, and the best/quietest areas within that side of the site. We headed off.....to stop at the water fill area......all other arrivals had to wait for water or by pass us. We chose a pitch, and changed it for another on the grass areas, and settled in. Throughout the rest of the day, into the night, a steady stream of units of all types, scoured the area and filled up the pitches Bedlam flashed into our minds, as we had mistakenly chosen Friday and Saturday nights, and the families were intent on enjoying their weekend away. It started to look manic One toilet block, a big childrens park, loads to do, space for bikes and games of all sorts, might be heaven for some but not for us This site has lots going for it, we agree, for families. Best time for quiet times, are school days, Monday to Thursday. Walking....Biking...etc are brilliant, and at the right time we will return, but, we called it quits and decided to head home after one night. The site office was visited, to tell them we had vacated our pitch, and to leave our barrier card. The on duty staff were extremely sorry, and offered us a pitch on the main side of the site, which was mainly adults, but we declined, as our minds were already set. They said that the site was always busy at weekends and holidays, and appealed to local families as well as tourers. So Horses for Courses.......If you want/expect peace and quiet, this might not be the place......If you want things to do, and come at the right time, this is a great place to try. A full site of families usually means the untidiness you get with children normally, such as in the washroom. But adults clean up for the next user, children dont....be prepared. This echoes previous reviews This being said, we WILL try the site again , but on our own terms, and at the right time. I would suggest you make some of the areas ADULTS ONLY with a definate distinction between the groups

Doggy HEAVEN

Ferry Meadows is only 25 miles from home but is such a lovely site we visit 4 or 5 times every year. The wardens are so friendly and helpful, the site is absolutely immaculate with a fantastic toilet and shower block. We always pitch on "the other side" where there is so much space between pitches you can really spread out. Last weekend we had our Grandchildren with us so pitched next to the kiddies play area, whilst normally we keep as far away from it as possible. In actual fact we were not disturbed by the kids playing. Our dogs absolutely adore the nene valley park nearby, where your dogs can be off lead and also swim if they like. There is also the Nene Valley Steam railway nearby. If you want a really relaxing break on a truly great site, this is the place to visit.

Fabulous

Ferry Meadows is to us a gem of a site even if at times it can be very busy. there is so much to see and do in the area. with the park on the doorstep it is great for walking, cycling or just sitting watching the wild life. or you can have a boat trip along the river or around the lake . further over is the water sports centre for all sorts of daring-do. although i don't have a dog it looks amazing for dog walking. i personally don't like such long leads i see people using. dogs are simply not under control on leads nearly stretching up to four metres. that's just me. overall Ferry Meadows is a great place to visit whatever is your own particular interest. i would be back in shot if my other half said yes.

Spring bank holiday

Yet another excellent holiday. Like previous comments we do find the TV reception poor via the bollard connection. However, depending on your pitch location you can use your status aerial. Our last day was somewhat spoiled by several vans arriving late evening all wanting to pitch together. Although they had to spread out they had no consideration to the noise levels nor how they got from one pitch to the other. e.g across the front of anyone's van or even through the hedges. They sat out until about midnight laughing and joking. Sadly the children were no better either. Why children are allowed to throw the loose stones from the pitch around I'll never understand.

Love this site ... not the ice cream van

Have been here a few times over the years. Love the location and it’s proximity to the Nene Valley country park. The overhauled play area is awesome. I think one or two of the wardens need to relax a tad... 11 year old daughter going in the wrong direction on the roads ... seriously, told to turn around an follow the flow? The main reason for knocking the points off was really related to the ice cream van. Parked just by my pitch for 25mins with his engine running. Not good when you can taste the fumes in your drinks. A couple of time the queue disappeared and he was about to move to his next point (20m along) when someone raced up. Tomorrow evening I’ll risk the wrath of the wardens and move my car to stop him parking there.

Great site ... not so great members (not all though)

Fourth visit here and absolutely love it , great for cycling and walking with plenty for the kids to do. Despite being a large site it is not overly noisy and the wardens do a great job. The behaviour of some of the members, however is absolutely disgusting. I must start with the cleanliness of the toilets both male and female were the worst me and my partner have ever seen - toilet paper everywhere, urine on cubicle floors, people shaving and not washing the basin afterwards and the most disturbing was my partner told me used sanitry items left in the womens shower cubicles !!!!!! BY NO MEANS AM I HAVING A GO AT THE WARDENS , they done their best cleaning the mens THREE TIMES IN ONE DAY . This is completely unacceptable and I doubt very much its "just kids" . By the way I was informed that the site contained ONLY MEMBERS that particular weekend so this makes it all the worse that members are abusing the facilities and in my opinion abusing the wardens with this behaviour. Also what is it about the speed limit people don't get !!! its there to keep people safe , but no, at 12 new arrivals were tearing around trying to find the best pitch regardless of loads of children in the road. come on (some of) you lot get your act together and start being a bit more responsible.

A reasonably relaxing stay apart from the grass cutting at 08:30 and the poor Wifi

After a break of over 10 years, we decided to come back to the site, mainly for the cycling. Nice and flat. The site is in a good location and is pretty easy to get to. I followed the sat nav rather than the Caravan Club directions and, from memory of following the club directions on our last visit, it was far easier to get to using the sat nav. The staff were very pleasant and I am sure that nothing would be too much trouble. Usual clean site facities. The TV reception is VERY poor so I would advise that you use the booster service. There is a fish and chip van comes on site on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. The same company also "sends" and ice cream van round in an evening and the icecream is pretty good, but it is expensive. The nearby Nene park is beautiful and there are a couple of cafe's and you can ride round the lake with relative ease. There are a few activities that you can do on the water although the beer is very expensive at the waterside cafe / bar. On Ham lane, you will find the Ferry Meadows station, worth a look at and also a Beefeater pub and Norcutts Garden Centre. Averall, a relaxing visit but it would have been even better if the staff were not out on the tractor at 08:30 cutting the grass and emptying the bins! Also, we paid for the Club WiFi but to be honest it was pretty rubbish - even the club site timed out when loading up. I suspect that this is due to the number of pitches on the site so an increase in the bandwidth would go a long way.

Great first visit

What a lovely site in a great location. The wardens were very knowledgeable and always had a smile and a wave. Facilities were clean and warm, only criticism was one washing machine is not enough on a large site I had to wait for over an hour to get my washing done. First time in this area and we will return hopefully later this year.
