Great stay but lacking for the children

This was our second time staying at this site, same time last year so was easy to compare. This year the site was a lot more quiet than when we stayed the previous year and had the choice of pitches. We were able to pitch up by the small park which meant I was happier letting my children go over to the park together. Unfortunately the park on the main side had gone down hill with a distinct lack of attention to its maintenance and upkeep. There were items missing which I can only assume had broken and never been replaced. I was aware from my brother who had stayed later in the year that there was a second play park on the other side which was new and much larger from photos I had seen. I had asked when we arrived whether we could walk onto the second side to use the park which was closed to stay on, but we were told it was closed. I think the site needs to invest in the play park on the main side if they close the other side during the quieter months. There were plenty of children running around and cycling, turning up to use the play park and walking away disappointed. I don’t think the site should rely on Nene Park to supply the better play parks which are walking distance but require the whole family to go. The site is good quality and clean as expected by the CAMC and this is down to the work put in by the wardens. I think the pitches need some work to upgrade them being open all year round means they are in constant use. Even a fresh batch of shingle on top to freshen it all up. We will return as it’s a handy site only being 45minutes away. I hope the review about the park is taken notice of by the CAMC and the park is upgraded for next year. If anyone likes a good Chinese, I’d recommend Tasty House in Orton Waterville which is only 2 minute drive from the site, generous portions of meat and veg in the dishes and really tasty.

Great site

We come here several times a year , great site , lovely wardens , toilets are always immaculate , the only criticism is the hard standings really need re doing , when we were there in January 2020 there was a lot of pitches that got flooded .There is a Tesco Express in walking distance and Orton Meares which has a few shops and a good fish and chip shop just round the corner from QD , a pub just down the road and a garden centre which does a good lunch . A great park with some really good walks for the dog and at least 3 play areas for children , a good cafe reasonably priced everything for young and old .

OUR 3RD VISIT HERE AS IT IS JUST AN HOUR AWAY FROM HOME AND FOUND IT AS IMMACULATE AS USUAL AND ALSO VERY FRIENDLY AND HELPFUL WARDENS. LOVE THE PROXIMITY TO THE COUNTRY PARK AND THE LOCAL PUB/RESTAURANT AND GARDEN CENTRE.

Another good stay for us

We stay here for the good walks, given the proximity to the country park; for the peace and quiet and having good facilities nearby. We visited again in January 2020 and again found it to be just as enjoyable, the wardens just as good and the shop as welcome. We'll be back for sure. I just wish there were some fully serviced pitches available. That would make it a super site!

We'll be back soon!

Booked the Ferry Meadows as a 2 night stopover on our way down to Surrey. Lovely site, great facilities, friendly wardens, well maintained grounds, all set in lovely surroundings, ideal for beautiful walks. We loved it and will be returning mid February

New Years Visit

We have stayed at this site usually in the Autumn half term for the last 5 years. It’s a perfect location being so close to the park for great dog walks, the steam trains and not to forget the Beefeater ‘all you can eat breakfast’ within walking distance. Whilst there last year, we decided to re-book for New Year to do something different this Christmas. Not knowing what to expect we were amazed at the individual effort that some pitches had made for this festive period. It was excellent, not just with the lights/projectors etc but many awnings turned into grotto’s too. Well done to everyone who made the effort. That set the scene for New Years evening and now it was the wardens who set about making it a special evening. Hog roast, drinks and a real friendly gathering meant that first thing in the morning we rebooked for next year. The weather was obviously very mild which made it an even better stay. Love this site.

Another fantastic New Year's visit

We had four nights at Ferry Meadows over the New Year and had a fantastic time. The wardens on this site, are in our opinion just about the best on the Caravan Club's sites. Nothing is too much trouble and they go above and beyond the call of duty to make your visit special. The hog roast and gathering was such a good get together on New Years Eve, we attended 2 years ago and loved it but due to health issues we couldn't make it last year, so it was nice to get there this year, and we will certainly be back again in 2020. The site is really handy to get to from the A1 from either North or South, it's a spacious and well looked after site. Loads of walks without even jumping in the car, perfect for dog owners. The wardens keep everything up to a high standard, as you would expect. Plenty to do around there too, just a few miles from Peterborough. All in all one of our favourites.

Fantastic Wardens, Lovely Site

We have visited this lovely site twice now. Beautiful walking in the park, close to Peterborough yet very accessible via the A1. But on this occasion, for the first time ever, our van became detached as we were going over the speed bumps on exiting the site. An off duty warden immediately came to our rescue. He calmed us down, got the van back onto the jockey wheel and speedily fixed our breakaway cable (I’m sure he has done this many times!). He sorted the pins on our electric cable and waved us on our way. He is an absolute hero. The other wardens are all very friendly and they keep the site to a very high standard. The little shop is also very good. Will definitely return - and next time we will check the connection more closely!

Another good stay at Ferry Meadows

We have stayed at Ferry Meadows site for a number of years and have never had to criticise either the site itself or the welcome offered by the wardens, who are always helpful and friendly. The facilities are kept exceptionally clean and there is a toilet available when these are closed for cleaning. The dish washing room is inside which is always a bonus on cold or rainy days. The shop stocks the usual essentials and newspapers can be ordered the day before. The site is perfectly located by the Nene Valley Country Park, which has two cafes, large expanses of water plus playgrounds for all ages and a miniature railway. There is also the opportunity to sail. The dog walking is excellent with plenty of off lead time, although you need to be aware that cyclists use the paths too. There is a local garden centre, which has a cafe but only allow dogs in the outside seating area. Nearby, there is also a small Tesco, vet, fish and chip shop, newsagents, pharmacy and chinese restaurant. Bus stops to Peterborough are also within the vicinity as is the Nene Valley railway.
