A Relaxing few days away on excellent site

We stayed for four nights, site easy to find, pitch excellent, facilities spotless & very Covid safe, wrist band for showers worked well. I agree two sinks in dishwashing area could be used safely. We found staff friendly & helpful, we met the” infamous “ Alan who was a lovely chap friendly & chatty, we wish him & his wife well in whatever they do in the future. The club has rules for a reason, & if we all abide by them there should be no problems or complaints. We loved the bike rides in the park, cafe in the park good place for lunch with lovely views over lake & Covid safe, also our trip on the Nene valley railway which was fun & interesting, we also took a trip to Stanford which was a lovely afternoon out. We will definitely be back, thanks for a really pleasant stay. ,

Another visit to Ferry Meadows

We have visited this site many times as it is one of our favourites. The facilities are kept clean by the Wardens and they spend time keeping the site neat and tidy. The location is great for dog walking and there is access to two cafes in Nene park as well as a garden centre nearby. (They all seemed to be operating reduced hours.) It was very busy on this visit but the wristband system for the toilet blocks worked well although there is always the odd person who doesn’t like to follow the rules. We thought that the dishwashing area had enough social distancing space for 2 sinks to be used and not just one. We do not agree with some previous comments about the wardens. We have met with Alan and Dee for a few years now and have always found them to be friendly and helpful. Alan is a dog lover and we can’t believe he would treat them as has been suggested. We wish them all the best for their next move and hope we meet up again in the future.

Great site that people should respect more

Used as a stop over and glad I only stayed one night. The site and staff were really good but a good proportion of other members failure to follow the simple instructions to keep everyone covid safe made us feel very uncomfortable. The band system for the toilet block was more often than not totally ignored meaning more people in the block than should be, and then the selfish ones 'reserving' showers with their towels etc when using other facilities made it difficult to get a shower when doing it properly. It's not the Club it used to be!!

Can be improved

Dealing with the public is not easy. However there are ways to deal with confrontation and the culture here needs to be improved from the management to a more welcoming atmosphere. The lady’s toilet lock was intermittent in that it failed to open. We are aware of two lady’s raising the issue with the female member of staff but as ever she took a defensive stance and blamed the lady’s ability to turn the lock the correct way. Pity she had to use W40 to sort it and then no apology to the lady’s. Everything seems aggressive. Arrived after a very long journey and my wife got out of the car to stretch only to be told to get back in there’s another ten minutes before we book in. Our pitch 112 should be closed it flooded last year and ended up a mud bath and very dangerous with the high risk of slipping. It needs raising and re stoning. It was that bad we had to move after one storm. All the above is constructive comment and the site is brilliant in a great location next to Nene Park. The warden manager was Overheard telling everyone he had resigned and was fed up with the abuse he gets. Well the site now have an opportunity to improve the culture of the team so they can match the brilliant site it is. The disabled toilet/ shower needs work as it floods the whole floor and is well past it’s best. Despite the negative comments we will go back and hope the culture of the staff makes for a great stay

Excellent site

We have just left Ferry Meadows after an 8 night stay. Wonderful site, helpful and friendly staff and nice and clean. If you want peace and quiet do not park by play area then you won’t have anything to complain about. Rules are in place if you follow them then everyone will be happy. We met Alan who was a lovely kind and helpful chap, thank you Alan for making our stay safe and for keeping the site exceptionally clean and tidy. Ideal location for exploring. Cambridge 40 minutes away take a picnic and enjoy a punt on the river, not cheap but well worth it on a beautiful day. We recommend you book punts before you go use Scudamores and book online. Nene Park is beautiful a lovely walk around the lakes takes approximately one hour but do stop off and enjoy a cake and coffee or even a meal, very reasonably priced. Peterborough historic city worth a visit. Highly recommend The Cuckoo public house and restaurant, dog are welcome inside and out, beautiful beer garden for those sunny days, they even had doggie treats for your faithful four legged friends free of charge. Beautiful food and a great selection of beers and drinks. Staff very helpful and professional, book in advance online but you can also walk in. Medium price range for food but well worth it. Try the lobster homemade fish cakes served with asparagus, poached egg, new potatoes and hollandaise sauce it was exceptional. Great holiday thank you so much Ferry Meadows and the hard working staff especially Alan. We will be back.

Nice Break Away

After cancelling a trip to Cornwall with the ongoing covid situation we headed to Ferry Meadows for 9 Nights with our 3 children. Very easy to find off the A1 and pleasant wardens and staff on arrival. Rules etc explained on arrival and we were advised to head over the road where it was a bit more family oriented. Nice hard standing pitch located near the park and toilet block so ideal for the children. Site was very clean and wardens always out checking on bins etc and making sure things were OK. Great location with nene park a stones throw away and plenty of activities such as fishing, walks, biking, water sports and cafe etc to keep us enterained and a beefeater and cycle shop down the road if we fancied a meal out. Lovely weather and a site we will visit again although the only gripe we had was there seemed to be a lot of bikes getting pinched on a night. We were warned by another guest on arrival so we brought them inside on a night and chained them in the awning however those who left them outside were targeted. Not ideal when you go away worrying about bikes etc and one family left early as a result of their bikes going. Something the site need to look at and try make more secure.

Fabulous site

Stayed for 7 days and have to say the site was very well run Covid 19 rules easy to follow, as my partner is disabled we used the facilities and have to say some of the best we have used. The only let down was the number of noisy dogs who's owners felt it was OK to let them bark and then start to shout at them because they were clearly not secured on their pitches. There was plenty to do outside the site some lovely walks. We will def be returning as its only an hour away.

Great Site, Poor Wardens

What a great site, perfect for the Nene Valley Park, nicely laid out, well maintained. BUT, my oh my, the male wardens on the site need to revisit charm school. We arrived with a friend who soon had a run in with a warden even before they had moved from reception. As did we, we pulled into arrivals on the near side lane, my friend was in the offside arrival lane. The nearside arrival lane stop point is set back from the other arrival lane. Once I had checked in and got back to my car, my friend in a motorhome moved through the barrier. I was just about to set off and another motrohome pulled up along side me in the offside arrival lane, as the stop section for this lane is in front of mine it completely blocked my view of my exit, so I didn’t know I could getbthrough the barrier as my carcand caravan outfit is very long. My partner got out of the car and asked the motorhome if he could back up slightly when the younger of the male wardens rushed over and shouted at my partner saying the motorhome can stay there and cant you see you can get out, no is the answer to that and we should have been approached in a calmer manner and helped. The following day I witnessed Alan and the older of the other two wardens drive around and shout at a new arrival because of his windbreak, so loud this could be heard three pitches down, they then drove off smiling. Later in the day I also witnessed them going around the site at more than 5 mph on their buggy ‘looking for something’ as you could hear him on the radio. I’m sorry, but being an ex warden myself on both CCC and CMC affiliated as well as private sites this is totally unacceptable, there are calmer ways and means of dealing with all situations and these male wardens all looked stressed to the hilt, wrong job springs to mind. On the other hand the facilities are great, the wrist band covid toilet block entry system is good, except for the people who still think it is ok to go in, even though all the wrist bands are being used. I witnessed this too on another CMC site recently too. It’s a shame the NVR steam train wasn’t running, due to open on the 15th,p August, but can’t have everything. Reception staff were pleasant, masks required on entry to the reception/shop. Would we go again, possibly not unless the wardens learn to deal with situations in a calmer non dictatorial manner.

Shame about the warden

One of our favourite sites but unfortunate about the warden. He does not seem to understand that you can talk to people about a rule breaking without being agressive as most adult people are happy to accept a polite reminder if they have broken a rule in error, as we all do from time to time. In my job i came across a lot of people like him who get a little bit of power and it goes to their head. He really needs to stop the agression thing and learn how to talk to customers. After all we are paying customers and deserve a bit of respect. It is a great shame as the rest of the staff could not be nicer and this is a lovely site. The warden actually should also have a word with himself about the way he goes everywhere on his little tractor at top wack breaking the 5mph rule and is not averse to going the wrong way on the one way system, but obviously none of the rules apply to him. The other staff are much more sedate when driving the tractor.

A pleasant week's stay

We have used this site before - it is fine, and great for walks in the adjacent park. We have used it before - on this occasion we were trying out our new motorhome, and that immediately on release from "shielding", and there was a lot that was new after many years of caravanning! A good experience, and the site staff are coping well in unusual circumstances. Once more, there was plenty of help with the unfamiliar from fellow campers as well as the staff - all in all, an excellent experience. We used our own facilities, so can't comment on the site provision, but would comment that the motorhome service points could do with improvement, although we managed. A good week, and we will be back if we need again to use a site local to us.
