Fabulous site

Stayed for 7 days and have to say the site was very well run Covid 19 rules easy to follow, as my partner is disabled we used the facilities and have to say some of the best we have used. The only let down was the number of noisy dogs who's owners felt it was OK to let them bark and then start to shout at them because they were clearly not secured on their pitches. There was plenty to do outside the site some lovely walks. We will def be returning as its only an hour away.

Great Site, Poor Wardens

What a great site, perfect for the Nene Valley Park, nicely laid out, well maintained. BUT, my oh my, the male wardens on the site need to revisit charm school. We arrived with a friend who soon had a run in with a warden even before they had moved from reception. As did we, we pulled into arrivals on the near side lane, my friend was in the offside arrival lane. The nearside arrival lane stop point is set back from the other arrival lane. Once I had checked in and got back to my car, my friend in a motorhome moved through the barrier. I was just about to set off and another motrohome pulled up along side me in the offside arrival lane, as the stop section for this lane is in front of mine it completely blocked my view of my exit, so I didn’t know I could getbthrough the barrier as my carcand caravan outfit is very long. My partner got out of the car and asked the motorhome if he could back up slightly when the younger of the male wardens rushed over and shouted at my partner saying the motorhome can stay there and cant you see you can get out, no is the answer to that and we should have been approached in a calmer manner and helped. The following day I witnessed Alan and the older of the other two wardens drive around and shout at a new arrival because of his windbreak, so loud this could be heard three pitches down, they then drove off smiling. Later in the day I also witnessed them going around the site at more than 5 mph on their buggy ‘looking for something’ as you could hear him on the radio. I’m sorry, but being an ex warden myself on both CCC and CMC affiliated as well as private sites this is totally unacceptable, there are calmer ways and means of dealing with all situations and these male wardens all looked stressed to the hilt, wrong job springs to mind. On the other hand the facilities are great, the wrist band covid toilet block entry system is good, except for the people who still think it is ok to go in, even though all the wrist bands are being used. I witnessed this too on another CMC site recently too. It’s a shame the NVR steam train wasn’t running, due to open on the 15th,p August, but can’t have everything. Reception staff were pleasant, masks required on entry to the reception/shop. Would we go again, possibly not unless the wardens learn to deal with situations in a calmer non dictatorial manner.

Shame about the warden

One of our favourite sites but unfortunate about the warden. He does not seem to understand that you can talk to people about a rule breaking without being agressive as most adult people are happy to accept a polite reminder if they have broken a rule in error, as we all do from time to time. In my job i came across a lot of people like him who get a little bit of power and it goes to their head. He really needs to stop the agression thing and learn how to talk to customers. After all we are paying customers and deserve a bit of respect. It is a great shame as the rest of the staff could not be nicer and this is a lovely site. The warden actually should also have a word with himself about the way he goes everywhere on his little tractor at top wack breaking the 5mph rule and is not averse to going the wrong way on the one way system, but obviously none of the rules apply to him. The other staff are much more sedate when driving the tractor.

A pleasant week's stay

We have used this site before - it is fine, and great for walks in the adjacent park. We have used it before - on this occasion we were trying out our new motorhome, and that immediately on release from "shielding", and there was a lot that was new after many years of caravanning! A good experience, and the site staff are coping well in unusual circumstances. Once more, there was plenty of help with the unfamiliar from fellow campers as well as the staff - all in all, an excellent experience. We used our own facilities, so can't comment on the site provision, but would comment that the motorhome service points could do with improvement, although we managed. A good week, and we will be back if we need again to use a site local to us.

One of my favourite sites

We have just returned from staying for 18 nights. When we arrived it was very busy and unfortunately couldn't get on our usual side of the site. However the two pitches we found on the west side were fab and spacious. The only issue I had was children running through pitches....I say children but the parents did this also from several caravans around us. We seemed to think that pitch boundaries or should I say just peoples awareness of other peoples things went out the window on that side. The covid 19 measures where all in place just a shame again some teenagers didn't think the wristbands at the toilets applied to them. There were a set number of toilets and showers available and also sinks to use. Hand sanitiser outside each door also. There was also extra cleaning due to the regulations. Alan the site warden is a friendly bloke and despite us only turning up once every year and him meeting and greeting 1000s he still remembers you and greets you with a friendly hello. We have never had any issues with Alan. If he does have an issue with someone he will let them no but no different to how he would deal with anyone else. For example: We were asked to move the windbreak due to it being to close to my car from my parents caravan for fire safety. We were happy to move it no issues there. I have heard others have had issues with Alan but he is fair with everyone. I know he asked someone to move their caravan due to it being the wrong side of the peg and just received a lot of chew... rules are there for a reason. Another someone dumped a car in the trees in the shade rather than on their pitch or in the car park. Alan found them spoke to them no issues they moved it granted they drove the wrong way but quickly u-turned and parked it up. Alan has also previously worked on the site with my dog who is very nervous and reactive to strangers and dogs he would never harm a dog on the site ever when we first met Alan he was still training them. He even remembered this when he saw us again and kept his distance to allow my dog to settle when he was stood talking to us. Its a real shame that Alan and his wife have dealt with crap from people as they arw only there to maintain the site, its rules etc. Shame they will be retiring this year.

Fantastic site with fantastic wardens

This is one of the best sites we visit love coming here Alan & Dee the main wardens our a lovely couple, they know their job well You can have a bit of banter and a laugh with them all. The reviews people have put on here about them is out of order they greet you with a smile and treat you well if you get on the wrong side of Alan because you have ignored what he has told you you can expect him to be cross. As for mistreatment of dogs he is one of many people l know who adores dogs he would never hurt one like what’s been said that’s not Alan at all, he is a gentle giant. Alan and his workers have worked hard on this site to get things done a lot better than it was a few years ago. We think it’s about time the C&MHC started standing up for their wardens they get so much abuse over time yet they are the ones that get slated and cant reply to bad reviews which is wrong. Keep the good work up all you wardens at Ferry Meadows Camp site Carol & Brian

Great Location

Just spent 3 nights here. It’s in a great location, out of the gate, one way to the country park with loads of activities and the other way takes you to the Nene Valley Railway and more. Will definitely be back as so much more to do here. The band system was working well and we felt very safe whilst here. It’s a very popular site so very busy, all credit to the hard working wardens who keep things running smoothly.

One of our Favourites

We have been coming to Ferry Meadows for nearly 20yrs now the reason is you can do all the things that make a holiday for us, cycling, golf, walking and a bit of retail therapy in the city centre. We have seen wardens come and go all have been good but the current set are excellent. We visit the site at least twice a year and the welcome we receive is always friendly, since the current set of Wardens have been at site they have worked so hard on the ground work to bring the site back up to its current excellent standards. The pitches and the surrounding areas are all flat, neat and the grass cut , the toilets are some of the best we have seen although some members do astonish me why in these current times (covid) would you want to pooh in a shower because all the toilets are being used not once but twice I saw that occur and the poor warden has to clean it up they do work hard to keep a good site for their members and have to put up with alot from some members who can be difficult. We will be returning again and again to Ferry Meadows it ticks all the boxes for us as a couple pensionagers.👍

Good site shame about the wardens

Have visited this site several times before and cannot fault the location, the facilities and walks around Nene park are excellent. The CAMC site is essentially good but is spoilt by the Wardens. We agree with previous comments about the warden being a tyrant and dictator, we have had our dog taken from us and pushed to the ground as an unwanted training exercise. On arrival the check in had changed from the CAMC guidelines, additional information on arrival said no visitors which is a bit late when plans had been made, this should have been on CAMC website. Also no deliveries allowed despite CAMC website indicating it was possible. Covid 19 actions were a bit harsh, no hand washing facilities despite government guidelines and no urinals open. The wardens made 6 or 7 inspection visits around the vans every day looking to find something out of place and endorse their authority. The head warden told us on arrival the site couldn't run without him, come on CAMC prove him wrong!
