Great site, visit while you can

We’ve stayed here many times and it’s a great site in a fabulous location, but for how much longer? I understand that the lease expires later this year and it is likely to disappear under a housing development. In some ways the site is starting to look a bit tired but that’s understandable given there is no incentive to invest in a place with no future. The loss of this site will be a HUGE loss. I was very disappointed to see that the Grape & Grain pub just up the road in Crystal Palace has closed. We always looked forward to a few pints of proper beer in a real pub when we visited. The quiz and live music nights were always a bonus.

A Great Way to Visit London

This attractive and welcoming site was a perfect base for our visit to London to see Phantom of the Opera. It was amazing to be able to hop onto a train afterwards and quickly get back to the site - paying just £21 per night instead of having to book an expensive hotel in London. We appreciated the quiet and efficient running of this site, with everything being beautifully clean and well-maintained. We will certainly be using this site regularly for further visits to London

Great location for London

We decided to go away for Christmas and New Year, staying on this site. Being away for Christmas was a new experience for us, however our daughter lives 3 miles from the site and we had a lovely leisurely walk to hers Christmas morning. We also had family come visit for New Year's Eve, and there was no problem leaving their car in the car park. On arrival at the site we were greeted with very happy and informative staff, who had re-arranged our pitch so that we could be next to our relatives. The pitches are hard standing, with plenty of space. Once onsite you could not believe how quiet the site was, when you came out onto the busy main road just a one minute walk away! The emergency service sirens, were the only give away that we were in a populated area. I cant comment on the sanitary block, as I never used these facilities. Although there are no dog walks or a children's area, you are a one minute walk from Crystal Palace park. There were plenty of squirrels on site, who were very entertaining. In the arrival "bumpf" if is mentioned that the squirrels and foxes on site do eat things left outside on pitches - so no rubbish bags, etc to be left overnight. Crystal Palace itself has everything you could need, plenty of bars, restaurants, supermarkets, even a bus station. As everyone else has reviewed this site, it is perfect for so many choices of travel into the city or other locations in south London. Buses fares are a set price of £1.50 per journey, which is unbelievable for a relaxed hour trip into Trafalgar Square return for £3! So easy to use your contactless bank card for payment, if you do not have oysters. Each time we came across a warden, they were all extremely friendly and full of enthusiasm for their site. We would definitely recommend this site and will be back. Hoping the lease is renewed, or extended, from November 18. Plan plenty of time to get through the traffic with your outfit, as it can take a long time if you are traveling through peak times. The only negative was that empty bottles were put in with food waste, so we were not sure if these were recycled.

Convenient base for London

Our stay (second time) was excellent, with everything as expected. Very clean facilities and very friendly and helpful wardens. The site is ideal for the No.3 bus close by, directly into London Westminster or Trafalgar Square. In fact we found it quicker to get on and off the bus at Brixton, and jump on the underground there. So convenient to use contactless card for bus and underground, not even necessary to bother topping-up and using Oyster card nowadays. It was quite windy and the proximity of the Communications mast meant that we had a couple of noisy nights, the wind seems to hum around the mast. Problem solved with ear-plugs. The mast is actually quite useful in finding the site. We stayed from 2nd Jan, and first couple of nights were charged at a premium rate compared to normal tariff. This ramped up the price quite a bit for our 5 night stay, and the site was not full, showing that it probably should not be higher rated after December 31st.

01.30 Departure?

Just stayed here with my family for 5 nights. I understand the Club Rules regarding arrival after either 12 noon or 1PM; and before 8PM. Presumably setting up after 8PM would be a disturbance to others on site. Why then is it okay for somebody to vacate their pitch at 01.30AM? The Club rules state that normally you have to vacate the pitch by 12 noon. Our neighbours at Crystal Palace certain did that when they left at 01.30AM.This meant doors banging, wastewater getting emptied, steddies raised, car engines started, etc, etc in the hour leading up to it to. Surely the Club needs to review its rules and allow departures no earlier than 07.00AM.

Great site and so good for visiting London

Great site, easy to get to from M25. Good pitches and very clean facilities with good showers. The no 3 bus was a 5 minute walk and ran every 10 mins to take us into Trafalgar Square. We're going back in March 18. Fine for dogs as there is a walk on the edge of the site and then Crystal Palace Park a 5 mins walk.

POOR PITCH ALLOCATION

Very disappointed over pitch allocation which seems to favour some members over others. We arrived on Saturday for one night and had booked an awning pitch. We were allocated pitch 30 but when we pitched we would not be able to receive satellite TV because of the trees. Went back and asked if we could be moved but we couldn't because they were full up. We then noticed that pitch 21 exactly the same length as ours was vacant, so went back to the office to be told we couldn't have that. I asked why and was told a load of flannel but then noticed against our pitch was written "not to be moved". I asked why and was told the main warden had done that. Then asked what I wanted to which I replied an awning pitch where I could get satellite TV. Offered pitch 46 which was ideal. We pitched 50 minutes after arrival. Why could we suddenly be moved because we complained. Presumably the wardens were keeping pitch 21 and 46 for their mates. Hardly fair to all members. Of course the location of the site is perfect for London but it is poor value for money and your face must fit to get a decent pitch.

Fantastic Stay

We were concerned about the base of this campsite that it could possibly be noisy. How wrong we were, for where the campsite is, it is pretty quiet. We arrived to be greeted by a really lovely lady who was so helpful with all information we needed. We parked up and away we went on public transport for our three days, it was so easy. The trip in was OK, we had already been advised that the sat nav could possibly take us through London. As we came from the west country, we chose the A303, M3,M25 and A3, the trip was pretty easy really. People have commented on the showers etc, we thought they were OK, warm and clean. We woke up to saw this morning so made a dash for it, again the site staff were helpful as we unsure we would get the motorhome out, we did. The bus stop was left out of the campsite on crystal palace parade with a 5 minute walk, crystal palace village about a 10 minute walk in the same direction. with a Sainsbury's and a Wetherspoons, plus other smaller shops too.The bus took us into London on Friday in 45 mins, Saturday a little longer. Hey but who cares for £1.50 who can complain. A shame our city cannot adopt London transports principles! We have booked to go back again already, so Please please to whoever the landlords are, I hope they read all the reviews and allow the site an extension of their lease.

Whatever your plans, the Crystal Palace site makes it possible.

We regularly stay at this site for business and pleasure as it's so well placed for getting into London, particularly when using the train links. Earlier in the year we needed to be in Islington, N1, and it was a stress-free journey to Highbury and Islington each day. Last weekend we were enjoying the tennis at The O2, then in the evening traveling 'home' on the no,3 bus from Trafalgar Square after a night out in the west end. Whatever your plans, the Crystal Palace site makes it possible. It's surprisingly quiet considering the proximity of the busy road on its doorstep, and the members as always are respectful of each others privacy and the need for peace and quiet, particularly after a hectic day in town. The toilet block is unchanged, but always clean and practical, and the staff are efficient and helpful. Due to the city location, land is a premium and so there isn't the luxury of having a play area for parents and young children, and it does mean that the vans are in unimaginative ranks alongside each other, but that has to be the case due to the popularity of the campsite and the lack of space. Overall a unique location and a welcome and affordable place to stay, in contrast to a London hotel or Airbnb option! Due to the financial savings made by 'camping' it means that you can afford and hopefully enjoy more of the great things that London has to offer, SO book it now!
