After a long hot journey home, dont you just love the M25!!! I felt I had to sit down and take some time out to review this site. Not our first visit and certainly wont be our last, we spent 17 wonderful days in Dorset with friends. The location of Crossways is excellent to explore the Dorset coast, I cant comment on the facilities because we used our own. However, it didnt go unnoticed how frequently they were cleaned and sanitised. These arent easy times and the Wardens carried out their duties constantly, they were always cleaning and walking around the site checking on the guests, always smiling which cant be easy in this oppressive heat!!!! A massive THANK YOU to Graham, Dawn, Tom and Christine, we hope to see you next year.
What a gem - we'll be back
Had a wonderful 2 week stay and really enjoyed the site. Set amongst little glades it is so picturesque, yes there are some very shady pitches but there are also some sunny ones and some in the middle. It is quite difficult at the moment to pick a pitch if you turn up late or on busy days as the site is constantly fully booked, but that does make for a good atmosphere. Our nightly walk with our dog always resulted in stopping and having several conversations with fellow travellers about something or another, usually dog or deer related. The wardens and their assistants were so friendly and helpful on where to go and what to see they were a delight. They were always on the go the site was so well cared for, you felt guilty just relaxing and taking in the scenery. It was lovely to see the deer on a daily basis, so unfazed by us humans invading their territory, one in particular who I believe was hand reared will come right up close especially if you are pitched where she wants to eat the grass! We were lucky enough to choose a wonderful partly sunny (which suited us) pitch in a little glade of 3 pitches surrounded by trees. Can't comment on toilets or showers as we used our own facilities. The down side was there was something falling from the trees which in the night sounded like ball bearings and when we got home we realised that they had severely discoloured our caravan roof and my husband is taking hours trying to remove the staining. The site is situated in an old quarry and the ground is quite hard as there is very little top soil so we bent a lot of our plastic pegs before switching to metal ones. You can hear the train from almost all the pitches but they stop at 10.45pm so no disturbing you through the night and you soon get used to the noise. You can hear the adjacent quarry but it did not disturb us in the slightest. My only negative is there is no where you can walk your dog on grass as the dog walk is through woods and quite uneven in places, there is also no where you can let you dog off lead if it wants to run freely. The train station is almost next door and will take you to Weymouth, Dorchester, Bournemouth etc if you dont want to drive which is very convenient. The walled garden and tea room in Moredon is a must and if you have a dog they will love running through the ford - apparently the widest in the UK, crystal clear and shallow, our dog loved it. I also agreed with the previous review about the speed limit we frequently watched cars doing in excess of 15MPH let alone 5MPH. Drivers need reminding that pedestrians have right of way on sites.
My dogs ok he will not run off
Now that everyone is able to get out again will the dog owners PLEASE do as the rules asked KEEP your dogs on leads as soon as Campervans or caravans pull up doors are open and the dogs are running around and all the owners say is my dogs ok he won’t run of BUT they do the deer on this site now have baby deers and they will protect them and your dog will come of the worst then when all set up dogs still running around please think about other members who do abide by the rules.
Also on another moan the speed limit is 5MPH anywhere on site,
On a happier note thanks to the wardens-who have and are still doing a wounderfull job of keeping the site toilets showers spotless So please help them by keeping distancing and areas clean after use They are working 24/7 to as the site is full all the time thanks again for all you do

A collection of CLs!
Crossways is a lovely site which feels like it is made up of a collection of CLs through small enclaves within the site. Bigger fields are available for those who want more sunshine, so something for everyone. We were delighted to be joined at tea time by a friendly deer who appeared most evenings. The current Site managers Graham and Dawn are very friendly and extremely helpful, especially during the difficult times due to Co-Vid 19. Nothing was too much trouble, and it was reassuring to see Graham and Dawn walk around the site most evenings way after they should have "logged off". The composting WCs are no problem and environmentally good. Good cycling locally and the train station close to the site gives access to Weymouth, Poole, and Bournemouth.
First time motor home trip
Having just bought my vw camper van this was my first out the site was very clean staff very helpfull having arrived in the worst weather possible was directed to a excellent hard stand the site is very quiet and very handy for the trains and nearby pub was an excellent few days and will definitely returning next year thanks for a brilliant stay
Goodbye to another set of wardens
Well here we go again another set of wardens leaving us☹️Has it been a year from the time you arrived you have done wonders with the site put your own stamp on a woodland area worked so hard in all weathers this site dose have it’s up and downs but you have taken it in your stride well done, you have always had a smile At what has been thrown your way from nutty members to wild life sleeping in the showers deer knocking on your door for food keeping the pitches up to top form after they have been waterlogged, so now you’re done all that and made the site what it is to day and kept it as woodland YOUR OFF THANKS A LOT no really thank you for what you have done all year all the best for the future and your new adventures
Hope you back one day(if any needs a pole dancer for Xmas Richard is the man)

Laid back
Spend 6 days in September at this site second staff in 4 weeks and I do take other reviews into account and yes the showers are in desperate need of upgrading. Right that is the only moan out of the way, this site is perfect for people who love peace and quiet and having breakfast with deers. The staff are amazing just gutted that they won't be here next year so thanks a million for the hard work you all put in. the facilities are extremely clean despite the amount of objects fallen off the trees at this time of year. Beautiful site with excellent pitches you have to get early to get some sun due to the trees but that is what makes this site so enjoyable. My wife can't walk far so walking around this site with 2 border collies and a golden retriever was very enjoyable.
There is a pub just outside and a train station to take you anywhere, there is also a dog walk opposite the pub and and playing fields for the 4 legged friends to run around. We will d be returning next year as the van is cwtched up for the winter now.
Enjoyable stay
We stayed on the site for 12 days, most enjoyable stay. The wardens were very helpful, polite and friendly. I can't comment on 'good for families' as this didn't apply to us. The railway wasn't too much of an issue, the trains don't run through the night. The station is a short walk from the site (via the foot gate) and Weymouth and Dorchester is within easy reach. The composting toilets weren't an issue and they certainly didn't smell when we were there. I do agree about the showers, the water pressure could have been better and they are a little tired, but always clean. The Frampton Arms do lovely meals, can recommend the carvery, they also do Gluten Free which is a bonus. This is our second visit to the site and will not be our last.

Lovely quiet week
Stayed here for a week at the beginning of September.
Unusually the site is next to a Camping and Caravan Club site split by the railway line so some care is needed, also as stated as you turn into the site's private road you'll see a CL next to the bungalow, just drive past.
This is not a riposte to the latest review of the site, but when we booked in I remarked to the warden (male) how efficient that process had been, one of the clearest I've experienced. We were meeting friends who were already on site so we just selected one of 2 pitches that the warden had helpfully identified as being free nearby. The site is not like many of the club sites as it's in a wooded area and the pitches are dotted around, in parts it's almost like several CL's and this gives it some charm. I'm sure the deer have been mentioned suffice to say it was great to see them every day, they are not shy!
Somebody mentioned that the toilets smelled, none of our party felt this was the case, the shower blocks and toilet blocks were immaculately kept as the whole site seems to be and this is a credit to the team of wardens who we found to be a friendly lot.
The Frampton arms is about a 5 minute wallk from a small side gate, beer is OK and the carvery is recommended.
We'd go again.
Nice site, unhelpful management
I’m afraid this site lost all chance of a glowing review within 30 seconds of my family of four arriving. After an eight-hour journey, starting at 4am in the morning, we arrived and checked in for our eight-night stay. I explained I had a one-night-free voucher from the Caravan Club, but it was packed somewhere in the car or caravan and we couldn’t locate it immediately. Given the long journey and the tiredness, and a queue behind us, I asked if I could pay for seven nights immediately, pitch up and return within one hour with the voucher to settle the final night (offering to pay cash for the eighth night within the hour if we couldn’t find the voucher).
The answer to this reasonable request? “No.” I was told I needed the voucher in my hand, or would have to change my booking online and risk losing our holiday altogether. Despite being paid seven nights in advance and my promise to return in an hour with the voucher or cash for the final night, the woman in charge point-blank refused. Where’s the common sense here, or basic level of hospitality and understanding? Yes, it was our mistake, but would it really have hurt to wait an hour for the final night’s payment in advance?
Seeing a lady queueing behind me raising her eyebrows, I realised I wasn’t the only one who found this response unwelcoming, but with two tired kids waiting to start their holiday I didn’t want to cause a fuss and paid in full without the voucher. (The voucher was then found 10 minutes later, but was by this time useless).
We were given a map (which having not been there before, made little sense), and received no help whatsoever when we asked for advice on a sunny pitch etc. After driving round the one-way system twice, and trying to find a suitable caravan pitch, we then had another van behind us (in a similar position), and simply took the first available pitch we could find - which turned out to be in more or less constant shade. Again, our mistake, possibly, but surely some advice on sunny pitches shouldn’t have been too difficult for the management?
The same lady later refused to lend me some step ladders at the end of our holiday to help put our bikes on the car roof - health and safety apparently.
So, the site loses points, in my view, for basic lack of advice and hospitality from the moment we arrived. That said, the other cleaners etc and wardens were, on the whole, friendly.
The site itself is nice, and would have scored higher if it weren’t for one person - who I’m assuming was the manager - being unhelpful.
It’s quiet (apart from the regular late-night train sirens), the guests seemed friendly, and the location is good for local spots like Weymouth, Dorchester etc. The deer are nice to see, at first, but do become a bit of a pain, especially if you’re trying to eat outside.
Would I go again? Yes, but in the hope some hospitality and common sense has prevailed.
