DOGS AND SPEEDING

As usual lovely week end the only thing to spoil it time and time again the amount of car drivers and visitors to pitches that are doing more then the 5mph limit there are children and deer some with babys around the site children playing in the woodland then running onto the roads the wardens do all they can to stop this yet drivers continue to do it so if you do visit the site please stick to the 5MPH also dog owners the rule is dogs on leads yet the few of the dog owners let them run around of the leads yet again the deer have little ones if your dog is not on the leads and they are attacked it will be your own fault its no use saying my dog woun't go far its a good dog .abide by the rules don't spoil it for every one the other weekend lovely weather for BBQ yes allowed gas/electric/charcoal wonderfull for wood land site if kept under control one caravaner had one of these fire pits blasting away not far from other peoples van please think of other people and there vans and i dont think fire pits are alowed any way, The site is a wonderfull stie for all ages children enjoying themselves in the woodland playing making friends peace and quite for all ages so please abide by the rules laid down by the club for every one. i no some will come back about the dog rule we love dogs but like others we do get annoyed that the minority abuse the rules

Woodland setting

This campsite has a great setting with separate areas in the woodland which sets itself apart from many other sites. The composting toilets are unusual but much better than I expected and not as rustic as I've seen on smaller sites. The shower and toilet blocks are a bit dated although both kept spotlessly clean by the wardens and no shortage of hot water or any queues that we experienced. The train line can be a bit annoying mainly from the sounding of the horns rather than passing noise, but it's not that busy a line. Location also convenient for local shops and pubs. Wardens very friendly and helpful. We would definitely return.

Great holiday

Just returned from a 1 week break at Crossways. Lovely site with pitches amongst the trees. Great dog walk on site. Site is very dark at night, so a torch is essential. Only problem we had was that we weren't fans of the composting toilets and that the toilets and showers were in separate blocks. The individual shower cubicles were also very small. Nice pub within walking distance and Co-Op nearby. Lots to do in the local area, great walking with the dogs with many beaches dog friendly. Durdle door and Lulworth Cove worth a visit as is Maiden Castle.

A gem of a site

I stayed here for one night having booked a last minute escape. I was very warmly greeted by Elaine who not only suggested a pitch for me but gave me lots of information on places to visit during my brief stay. She is a credit to the Club and I cant wait to revisit and discover more that the local area offers. During my stay I was thrilled to be up close and personal with three deer who visited my pitch - this Crossways site is quite magical.

Very Good Site

Been here twice this year, Very quiet and pleasant and tidy site with a good layout, wardens very polite and helpful, nothing to much trouble. no play area for children so obviously not what you would class as a family site for young children, although when I was that age I would have loved it here with copses and tall trees for walking and wildlife, on site and local. The layout of the site is good with some small groups of pitches in copses and some along the side, most are grass pitches but there is a hard standing gravel/stone area with, I think, six pitches, you can choose your own pitch from anywhere on site. Bring a TV aerial cable with you as there is a aerial hook up with each pitch and you may need a 25 metre mains hook-up cable. Mobile phone reception is nonexistent in most of the site (ee) though I guess it could depend on your supplier. The site is very close to a railway station and a pub with good food, you can take you canine family members into the public bar. Bus service in village half a mile down the road. showers and toilets are very good and of course cleaned daily. All in all, a friendly peaceful grown up site that we will be visiting again.

Ideal for nature lovers

Well located site in the area between Dorchester, Weymouth and Wareham (all accessible via the convenient railway station, plus the line also goes to Bournemouth, Poole, Southampton, Winchester and London Waterloo) Luckily we were not pitched too close to the railway, which could have been annoying with regular toots from the train as it approached/left the adjacent station. There is a pub next door which was so busy that we could not dine there, but the food looked nice (discount weekdays for Club members) A small shop was about 10/15 minutes walk along the main road. We are a retired couple so cannot comment on the suitability for family groups, although attention would need to be paid to children using the composting toilets. There was not much lighting after dark so a torch is needed if you are not right next to a sanitary block. This is the first Club site we have visited with resident deer! They were very tame. Many thanks to the wardens, who helped us restore electricity after our fuse blew. We will be coming back to this site again.

Enjoyable stay

I stayed for two nights on this site, on my way to Cornwall. An excellent choice. Friendly wardens and the site was very clean, tidy and well kept. I liked the fact that the wardens obviously care for the local wildlife as the deer are fed, particularly in the winter - and I saw wardens doing the rounds with bird food for various feeders. I have two dogs and found the dog walk excellent and quite a good walk - often the dog walk area is an after-thought. I particularly liked the compostible toilets - very eco-friendly, clean and no smell! A lovely site within a woodland setting - and very central to visit various places of interest. I would visit again.
