We are camping beginners and Crosslands was only the fourth site that we have stayed at. The woodland setting was an absolute delight. and different to any other site we have visited. Staying in a small glade in the wood with perhaps 4 or 5 other caravans or motorhomes was so much more private and intimate. You can go to sleep with the owls hooting in the trees and in the morning see deer running through the site. Enchanting! The site is in a great location with the railway station just down the road where you can get to places like Weymouth, Dorchester and Bournemouth. During our short stay we left our campervan behind and instead used the train.
All is not perfect however. The dry composting toilets are not as grim as you might imagine but they do smell. The showers do work but the water pressure is just adequate. The site also suffers from noise from the railway but you do quickly get used to the trains sounding their horns as they come up to the crossing.
We loved our stay at this site which formed a great base for exploring the delights of Dorset. I am sure we will return one day.
Kick back and enjoy
Just had 3 nights at this site, firstly the wardens are very hard working and the site is immaculate considering you are in a wooded area. The one concern I had was the dog walk that dogs have to be on a lead at all times due to the deer having young. This wasn't an issue as there are 2 dog walks within 10min walk which they can run free. Did I mention deer for early risers you will be met with a beautiful sight 30 deer running free and of course Dolly who comes to say hello. Please don't worry about the toilets very clean and I like the Bio-diversity scheme. Pub on your doorstep as well as a train station will be coming back and as this is a little gem of a site.
3 nite stay
This was our second visit to this site. It was so busy we didnt get a pitch where we wanted it and therefore our stay wasnt as nice as the first stay due to being close to noisy children. However this is to be expected over a bank holiday weekend. Still better than many sites because of the layout being amongst trees. The showers are poor, low pressure but hopefully these will be updated as i think many people were complaining about them. I didnt have a problem with the composting toilets, great idea. We will definately go back but will avoid busy school holiday times.
A perfect campsite for peace and quiet and respectful fellow campers
If you like a campsite with all the "bells and whistles", club houses, entertainment, people with flag poles and caravans piled on top of each other, this is NOT the campsite for you.
However, if you like secluded, spacious pitches and beautiful surroundings, this will be more your cup of tea.
We were very lucky to find a cancellation for bank holiday weekend! The wardens were really friendly and found a perfect pitch for us.
We think it's one of the nicest campsites we've been to in this country, and I feel really refreshed after our stay.
Second visit
We stayed here in July for 2 nights and enjoyed it so much we booked again for 3 nights. The wardens are friendly, welcoming and really helpful. As we have a large Motorhome we were shown which pitches would suit. Please read the site description reference composting toilets so you know what to expect. As mentioned yes the showers may be dated and not very powerful but they are immaculate and do the job.plenty of information available in the hut and the shop stocks basics lovely walks in and around the site. Off site go left at the entrance and approx 10 minute walk there's a Co-OP. Go right 5 minute walk to train station and a pub which does excellent meals ( booking recommended)
Regular train service. We visited Weymouth Saturday Bournemouth Sunday.. we plan to go back but it maybe next year due to other bookings.. but I'm checking my diary and leave availbility in work..
Excellent site
We recently stayed at Crossways for 2 weeks. The site and facilities are excellent with good transport links

Just perfection!
Just returned from a 21 night stay at our favourite little oasis of piece and tranquility. We return year upon year and just love the vibe on this site. Surrounded by nature, so many places to visit and just a great place to unwind. Yes, the showers are a little dated and not very powerful but perfectly functional, the composting toilets an eco addition we would be happy with on any site! The wardens work hard to keep both clean so absolutely no complaints. If you want an escape from the hustle and bustle of modern day life this is the site, but with all the benefits of great access to all that Dorset has to offer. We will be back......
Noisy with Awful Toilets and Showers
We spent 2 weeks on the Crossways site and I would have to say they have the worst facilities of all the sites we have ever visted!. There are 6 bug infested run down showers for the entire site. Which are at opposite sides of the park. The showers trickle water out that is luke warm. The composting toilet smell and are not a nice thing to use. Potentially dangerous for young children. There are trains that run past the site with a busy road so its noisy throughout the day and night.
Avoid unless your deaf and don't mind using your own facilities. Very dissapointed!
July 19 Stay
We have stayed once before at Crossways and returned as its such a nice site. We like the site very much. Although they have composting toilets they are fine and not at all smelly.
The location is very good for us being in a motorhome that we do not want to move once we are pitched. Short walk to pub (changed hands recently) that is not quite as good as before (carvery now) but not too bad. The conservatory area gets booked up so reserve if you want to eat in this area.
Train station next to the site with access to Bournemouth / Weymouth / Dorchester which is great. We were pitched next to the railway line and the trains sound the horn when they are approaching the railway crossing at the station. It didn't really bother us as they do not run all night but some might not like the railway noise. Choose a pitch away from the railway and you should be fine.
We will return to the site as it is very nice. Pitches are hidden away in smaller enclosed glades which make the site feel very small and intimate.
Love it here........
This is one of our favourite sites, so different from the others. We had a fabulous pitch , secluded amongst the trees for complete peace and quiet, just lovely. As its local to us we also brought along our car so we could visit the surrounding area, Swanage, Burton Bradstock beach not far away. If your just taking your motorhome you may struggle with places to visit from site if staying for any length of time. The site dog walk is ok but you cant let dogs off at all because of the Deer, which are lovely, friendly and like a stroke.
The self composting toilets are fine, i found a little scary at first, i wouldnt wear my diamond ring in there just in case it should come off, never to be seen again!
The pressure on the shower was very low, but i managed, this was the only downside of the site for me.
We have booked to go back for the August bank holiday weekend, cant wait!
