First we spent 3 nights, planned as a stopover from Dover (ferry) to Cornwall. But we could not get enough of it so we changed our plans and visited the site again on our way back to Dover. The staff is very friendly. Warm and helpful, We stayed at 10 CC-sites this May/June in the areas Cornwall/Devon/South east England; this site is one of our 2 favourites. Because of the total package: the great staff, the wooded area and also the facilities outside the site. There is a good pub just a few steps away. With a ten minute walk you are at a co-op with fresh croissants and bread every morning. There are lots of rendeers at the site, some of them are not shy at all and are just passing by while you are a few inches away. Our dog liked the dogwalk very much. Using dry composting toilets was a new experience for us, but a very positive one, no smell at all. During the day/evening you hear the sounds of train horns now and then, but for us not annoying at all, and the trainstation so nearby is of course very easy when you don't want the use your own vehicle..
No Ordinary Caravan Site
We stayed at Crossways many years ago and had a wonderful holiday. We tried on many occasions to return but due to circumstances had to wait until this year to repeat the experience. I was a little worried that it wouldn't be as lovely as I had remembered it but Crossways did not disappoint. A warm welcome from friendly staff, a beautifully tended site that is kept clean and tidy. Beautiful woodland with friendly deer popping out of the woodland to come to the caravan and see what you had to offer them to eat. Dolly even played with our Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Sam. Quite incredible. The only downside that we found were the fuzzy burrs at the side of the paths when we took the dogs for their evening walk. Unfortunately, they mat into the long fur and are a real pain to brush out (especially for the dogs!!). Unfortunately, where numerous burrs had caught together, I had to cut large clumps of fur from the dogs rather than subjecting them to painful removal. This is the only negative thing I have to say about this site and I'm not sure as this could be remedied anyway with it being a woodland. Not a problem for short haired dogs but long coats are a problem. We loved our stay at this location and will definitely return again. Crossways has it's own very special magic and we will look forward to our next visit (maybe when the burrs are without their seed heads!!).
Such a peaceful site
Just spent 3 nights at Crossways as a stopover between Cornwall and Isle of White. What a lovely site! If I had not paid for Isle of Wight Ferry we would have changed plans and stayed at Crossways.
This is not your typical CAMC site. Small glades in acres of woodland, lots of wildlife (although some of it is quite tame), grass pitches, a mix of sun and shade.
Dry composting toilets are fine and better for the environment. Seperate shower blocks were clean and showers were hot. Staff were excellent.... friendly and very helpful, and keep the site tidy and natural.
No food shop on site, but a good small Co-op just a few minutes walk down the road on footpath.
Lots of interesting places to visit around, by car, train, bus or bike. We cycled to Moreton to see the beautiful church, associated with TE Lawrence, and the excellent Tea rooms.
Also a fascinating clock and cider making museum is an easy bike ride away.
We shall definitely be returning to this lovely site.
Fantastic Site, a cut above the normal
We stayed on this site at the beginning of June and we were impressed from the start by the warm welcome that we received. The layout of the site is brilliant, instead of being in a large field with long rows of caravans, you are in small glades surrounded by trees. Each area has its own, water, bins, and disposal points, and showers and toilets are not far away either.
The compost toilets are a fab addition in my view as they are so eco friendly, and I hope other CMC clubs sites follow suit. They are not smelly at all and are kept very clean.
The location of the site is great for exploring the Jurassic coast, and the beautiful Dorset country side. You can get 10% discount from the local pub which is only 5 mins walk away, and the food is great. Each morning we had the pleasure of watching wild deer grazing on the grass outside our caravan
All of the staff were super friendly and eager to help, my wife and I will be returning to Crossways when we venture down that way again. Thank you for providing a unique and inviting place to stay.
Peaceful Site with Helpful Wardens
We stayed for 4 nights in this peaceful site, we managed to find a pitch in Hinds Pasture which is away from the road and railway line, it was peaceful but once you walk up the road towards reception you can hear the traffic. We were pleased to have chosen this area having driven all around the site, there are lots of trees so finding sunny spots was more difficult. The warden was very helpful in pointing out which areas would be best for sun or late sun. To see the deer wandering around the site was a lovely experience, I chose this site for this very reason and was not disappointed although I would have liked them to actually come to our motorhome but they were across the way so I could see them. I did buy some deer food but took it back at the end of our stay as they had not come to eat it, it will be used for others. The shower block was separate from the toilet block but that was no problem at all, just had to walk in different directions.
The composting toilets were no problem, they were kept clean although they did have trouble whilst we were there with the electrics keep tripping out so the fans stopped working, it seemed to happen overnight so in the morning the toilets were a bit smelly. I have to say though that the wardens were on to it immediately, it was not their fault. They did a really good job keeping the site clean and not being so pedantic about how you pitched your motorhome, they showed sensibility, rather than other site wardens if you are a centimetre off line they hound you.
Bike riding from the site was more difficult as the road outside the site is very busy and fast moving. We did take our bikes on the train to Dorchester to ride to Weymouth but that was awful, the cycleway was alongside the main road and full of fumes and noisy traffic, not to mention the long hills either way.
Well Done Crossways you gave us a super 4 night break.
Happy Bank Holiday stay
Stayed over 2 nights on the late May B.Holiday in our motorhome. The site was pretty full, unsurprisingly as it was the BH and start of half term week, so driving round to locate a free pitch was a little stressful. The site is arranged into a series of separate named copses, many of which are wooded and sheltered making it a bit difficult from the roadway to spot free pitches, even though we did appreciate being given the opportunity to choose one that suited us. We settled for the hard-standing area which was less crowded at the time we arrived and we had a perfectly pleasant stay there. The deer visited us and were remarkably tame! As others have said, the wardens are pleasant and efficient, the site is clean and peaceful despite being almost full. We would certainly come again though for more choice of pitch, maybe not on such a busy week!

Wonderful Wardens and site
We have stayed here on many previous occasions, however, we cancelled a long standing booking for the last bank holiday weekend in favour of the new Bingham Grange in Bridport, they cancelled our pitch the night before we were due to leave so we had no site to go to. We checked to see if Crossways had availability to no avail, so I phoned the site on the Friday morning just on the off chance they had had a cancellation overnight, which they did not. So, when I explained the reasons why we were enquiring they pulled out all the stops to accommodate us and made sure we had a pitch. The wardens here (wish I got their names) were just brilliant, the site is immaculate, friendliness is at a premium and we just love it. To be honest we are now so glad Bingham Grange cocked up. Don't think I will try them again when Crossways is not that far away from them anyway.
Up Close and Personal With Wild Deer
A site for those who enjoy watching the wild deer which could be seen grazing on the site. On one occasion a deer was inadvertently startled by the appearance of our car from around a corner, and we saw her leap high up a bank and into the trees. Another one was so tame that she would eat from your hand! Two others watched from nearby but they were more shy.
The downside for families was the unusual "composting" toilets, younger children cannot use them without a parent supervising them.
We could sometimes hear the nearby trains, but it was only in the daytime, and the sound was not intrusive.
Autumn watch
Visited late October and was surprised that there were not more visitors (it didn't help that the club book was wrong as to dates). However with less visitors the fallow deer could reclaim their territory. Remarkably tame too which says something good about us campers. Only a short train ride to Dorchester where the museum is well worth a visit - it has a popular cafe too.It is a site my wife and I regularly visited, it is just me now but it brought back good memories. Alan.
PS I don't know whether older children or teenagers would like it so scored Good for families accordingly.

Crossways
I visited this site 2 weeks ago and it is a lovely site. I particularly liked the outlay of the site and was not boring like some sites which are just in a circle. The wildlife was great and great habitat also loved the eco toilet everything on this site to help the environment will certainly been back. Showers could do with upgrade that is the only negative comment i could make .
