A "MUST VISIT" SITE

It’s a subjective opinion but for us, this is a 5-star site and quite different from your regular, well-run touring site.  The site is located in substantial wooded location and although having 258 pitches, it would be rare to be able to see more than a dozen or so at any one time, often less.  The pitches are set amongst the many trees and if you are in to peace and quiet and being closer to nature, this site is a "must visit".  During our last visit, in May this year, we found ourselves a pitch with near perfect privacy and yet no more than 100 yards from the toilet block and less than 25 yards to a service point.  The birdsong surrounds you with a view in all directions of wooded areas and yet the sun found its way through the several gaps to bath us in lovely, warm, dappled sunshine.  Of course, if it rains, the trees can offer some shelter if you are caught out.  (The weather was amazing as it happened and with the abundance of spring blossoms; massive azaleas and rhododendrons, as big as trees, popping up all over the place, the scenery was stunning, although CC can’t claim credit for that!)  If you choose carefully, there are many pitches which receive the sunshine almost throughout the day.  There are eight excellent friendly and helpful wardens on site who keep the place looking good and there is a small but usefully stocked shop attached to the reception.  Newspapers are delivered daily and available until noon when they are returned to the newsagent.  The location is of course superb, bordering on Lake Coniston which is accessible without leaving the site.  There are numerous places to visit within driving or hiking distance, too many to list here, although the Beatrix Potter attractions have to be mentioned, which one can visit to pay homage to a person without whose existence, the Lake District would not be the same unspoiled region it is today.   Read up on her first to understand how her philanthropic work resulted in the protection of many farms and over 8,000 acres of land.  A few words to dog owners:  the requirement on site to keep dogs on leads at all times applies even to YOUR well behaved dog.  We have to share the site with others, who most likely do not want to meet your dog off the lead, any more than our own dogs would.  Cherish the privilege; don’t abuse it and spoil it for others.

Great Site and Great Shop

Don't normally write reviews but felt I needed to for Coniston as it was a great place to stay. We really liked it. The site is huge but is split up into smaller pockets all in woodland making the site feel much more welcoming and private than the number of pitches suggests. Great for exploration. Easy access to the lakeside. Head away from Coniston and you will find quiet bits of lakeside that are idyllic.  The site shop deserves a special mention. Apart from being the best stocked shop I have seen on a club site, it had a herb garden outside that was well provisioned and free. It really makes a difference to use fresh herbs and was Brilliant. Every site should have one! One thing to be aware of, despite the great on site shop- Don't expect to do a 'big shop' at a local supermarket. There aren't any!

Good location for the Lakes

Good location. Pitches are amongst woodlands and a short walk through the woods to Coniston Lake with beautiful views. The wardens are friendly and helpful and the site is well looked after and very clean.

Top Notch

Been here so many times since we joined the club in '93, in fact it was our first ever club site. It NEVER disappoints. It's a tranquil paradise in which you can escape the 21 century and all its woes! Good to see wardens Janet and Carl Dixon and their lovely new recruits. A great team spirit.

Great location

Great location just 400 yards from Coniston lake shore. Pitches are well distributed amongst the woodland, although many have a steep cross fall meaning that large ramps are a must. Toilet facilities are very well kept. Weather over May Bank Holiday was fantastic, although the edge was taken off it by the persistent ball games. Like all club sites these days, the wardens turned a blind eye. I asked them to have a word with a group of kids and adults who were persistently belting a ball against the side of an unoccupied new Coachman on a seasonal pitch. They agreed to sort it....2 hours later, no-one had been near! In summary, a great location, shame that no-one respects or enforces Caravan Club's rules.

Woodland paradise

Coniston Park Coppice is a vast site set out through woodland. The pitches vary from quiet little 1 unit ones tucked away in the trees to large area's where groups could pitch together. With it being set in Woodland when you first arrive it can take a while to pick out your perfect pitch. There is a Fish and Chip van arrives on Tuesday's and Friday's and I can recommend the cumberland sausage. At the bottom of the site is a path that leads to Coniston alongside the river. There are limitless walks, cycle rides in the area. Tarn How's is well worth a visit but it is a long walk from the site and quite steep so perhaps travel by car. My leg's are still getting over it.

Thank You all

We stayed here for a couple of days last week on the way home from a trip to the Yorkshire Dales Scotland and Northern Ireland and found it a lovely site and a smashing end to a lovely trip.  The staff were all very helpful indeed.  Just to finish our stay there at 7.20am on the way to the showers a lovely little deer decided to join us Thank you all
