First Visit

We were lucky enough to have lovely warm weather for our visit to Park Coppice. On arrival the warden pointed out the "quiet"area at the top of the site and we headed off there for our stay. There are plenty of quiet pitches throughout the site and other areas which are quite busy. This site wouldn't be our choice in the main holidays, it's very big and could probably get too lively, but it's a great site for anyone who likes water, walking and living outdoors, there are lots of play areas and woods for families to explore. We spent most of our time out walking, it's an area we often visit and it was good to return and sample a different site. You just need to get your bearings on this large site then head off and enjoy what's on offer locally.

Park coppice

We arrived on a Saturday at the end of half term. What a massive difference it was on Monday. We were glad that we were on the top pitches due to the kids enjoying themselves around the play areas on the bottom site. We found the site very clean and well maintained. It was very busy but the staff were very polite helpful and down to earth. They were very friendly stopping to chat and having a laugh with us. Early in the morning deer walking around the park. The road getting there can be tight but we had no problems.

Very good site...for some!

This an excellent site which is well run and kept very clean with very good facilities. We were lucky enough to be at the top end of the site so excessive noise wasn't too much of a problem although quite a few teenagers need to be told that the speed limit on site also applies to them on their mountain bikes. I can see that this site is not to everyone's taste. I think it is because of it's sheer size. There is no way that with 280 odd pitches (possibility of 850 plus people) when full is not going to satisfy the ones who came for peace and quiet. Also space between pitches in some areas is very limited. We only had the choice of 2 pitches still available on the upper side and somebody had just taken one of them as we drove to view. We took the last one available. If we had to go on the lower half I honestly think we would have cancelled after the first night. We were there for half of the half term week and half or the following week and the difference was incredible. We will know for next time! Mick & Carol

Great site

We've stayed as a family of four here on many occasions and find the location stunning. This last weekend we had beautiful weather which always makes for a better caravanning weekend! Toilet blocks always spotless and we like the fact we don't have to rush in a morning to get to the block before the closed for cleaning sign goes on, at most sites, at 10.30. Great walks to Torver and into Coniston, and lovely to drive out to Elterwater and Ambelside.  The usual caravan club rules seem to apply although pitching with the offside to the Peg is nigh on impossible given the undulating pitches and forest type layout. Play areas ok but a little young for our kids, who didn't appreciate being told not to bounce their ball as we were walking along the stretch leading out of the site. Hasten to add no vehicles or caravans around this stretch, simply the warden looking, as we find many of them do, to reassert their own importance!! Bit of a mix up with the pitch as we pitched up and returned to the office to find the keys had already been allocated to a motor homes who had not left any marker on the pitch. Sorted easily enough though and we thought no more of it. Overall a good site, where we will return to again.

Customer Service Needs Attention

Once we had arrived and looked for a pitch I realised I had booked the wrong type of pitch, I had booked hard standing for campervan with awning when I meant tent. We returned to reception and explained the situation only to be told we had to have what we'd booked. I enquired if all the tent sites were booked to be told they weren't but that we couldn't have one. After much debate, which included me pointing out there were already other tents and campervan on the area and our assurances that we had a tent (not an awning) and that we were sleeping in it we were allowed a tent pitch. The following morning my partner overheard a member of staff speaking in negative terms about us to a colleague and we were told we had pitched in the wrong location. We had followed the guidance on the sheet but that was for caravans (no pitching instructions were provided for tents). We were asked to move the tent over 1 meter to the right. The staff members agreed that we had pitched 'correctly' according to the sheet and that it would be useful to have the different pitching instructions for tents on the sheet but offered no help. The only assistance they offered was the loan of a heavy mallet after watching us struggle to re position our pegs on the very stony ground. This poor customer service and fastidious imposition of the rules would be less vexing were the rules imposed consistently but, like others who have left previous reviews, we found other guests making noise well after curfew and being excessively noisy and encroaching at the times we were putting our young son to bed (one night a football hit our tent twice whist I was trying to get him to sleep) also there were vast numbers of dogs wandering around of leads (one of which fouled directly outside the childrens' play area) and even more that were aggressive and sometimes not tied up when we walked past their pitches on the road. On the positive the facilities were spotless and plentiful, though the site was at capacity at points during our stay I did not have to wait to shower, use the toddlers room or dish washing facilities.

Nice during the day noisy at night

We stayed at the Coniston Coppice Club site during half term. I like the lay out and location of the site and access down to lake Coniston was just a short walk through a couple of fields. It was also possible to walk into Coniston village along a footpath separate to the road, which was good as there was no pavement. The site is in a wood and as such there is little or no grass the pitches are on rough gravel and quiet uneven but we have ramps and we can cope with that. What we did not like was the noise levels at night. One night there was a dog barking for ages after 11 o'clock the next there were young teenagers out and about screaming and shouting at each other playing in the parks and listening to music on their phones this went on until nearly 1am. Now I am not anti kids intact I have two of my own they are 5 and 8 and each night from 9 o'clock they were in not out annoying other park guests. I complained to the wardens about the noise after the first night and was told that when they do their final drive round at 8pm everything was fine, well of course it was fine then perhaps they should check again at ten o'clock and tell them it is time to go in. Our children were kept awake much too late by the noise and as a result this really tainted our view of the place and spoiled what should have been a nice family break. If some parents don't care what their children are doing perhaps the wardens should get a grip of the situation for the benefit of the majority.

what a site

Do not be put off by the size of this site it is well laid out and does take some time to pick your pitch I found looking on the website and the site layout helped identify some potential pitches was time well spent before arriving. The walk into Conistan from the site is safe and has good paths also from tthere a walk to Hows Tarn is also traffic free and well worth the walk. So nice to be able to leave the car on site for the day. As with every site we have been on the wardens are very informative and helpful

Chillax

Park Coppice has got to be in anybodies top 10 Caravan Club sites. Coniston is either a two minute drive or 30 minute pleasant walk away. There are plenty of shops that cater for almost all situations plus a variety of pubs selling quality Lakeland ales & food From a pleasant stroll along the lake shore to a good stretch of the legs up the Old Man, Park Coppice is a fabulous place to stay
