This was our first visit here and we absolutely loved it. We had plenty of choice to pitch up as the site is huge. We decided to pitch up in the Grasmere area of the site and I was perfect; so very peaceful. Short walk to shower and toilet block, which were immaculate. Laundry room was brilliant £4 for a good hot wash, with 2 washine machines and two driers.
Fish & chip van visits Tues, Sat & Sundays, excellent food. We didn't try the onsite shop as we tended to drive into Coniston and go to the Spar with the garage. Its a great base for visiting Kendal and surrounding areas, you can walk to Lake Coniston via the bottom of the site. The Freeview channels were 20 max but the quality was fine. We were right next to the WiFi antenna so that was great.
All in all a fantastic site with very friendly and helpful staff. Plenty of walks for our dog and plenty of poop bins along the way.
The only scary bit was the narrow roads as we neared the site (we were advised about these and approached with caution), we were very lucky not to meet oncoming traffic on our arrival, let's hope we don't tomorrow when we leave!! We would definitely recommend this site to anyone who is looking for peace and quiet. Loved it !!
A really great site!
This is one of the best sites we have stayed on. The pitches are very generous particularly for our larger motorhome. a suitably sized pitch had been reserved for us which turned out to be ideal. The site is extremely well run and the wardens work hard to maintain it. The showers etc. were very clean. Walks to the lake and into Coniston were very enjoyable and would recommend the Wilsons Arms in Torver is half hours walk away and the food is tasty. The site has a relaxed, quiet atmosphere during school term time which is just what we needed. WiFi and TV reception both very good. Would strongly recommend it!
So peaceful
what a lovely site so peaceful you don't realise how big the site is as the pitches are so secluded. We pitched down at the bottom which was near to the toilet block and not far down to the lake. Only problem then was a steep walk up to the reception and on to the main road . We did this and walked along the old railway track into Coniston. We then did the walk up to Leven Water, fantastic walk but quite steep. Well worth it though, and the dog loved the swim in the lake once we got there. Very interesting to se all the old mine workings. The other walk into Coniston across the fields from the bottom end of the site is lovely. Didn't eat out as the Ship PH was closed on the day we went there and the walk to Torver ws a bit of a trek. Facilities excellent and plenty of them Will definitely return
Retired motorhomers
Loved the site. It's very big with good sized pitches. As it's a national trust park, all the pitches are surrounded by huge trees, so if you like the sun choose your pitch carefully. We unfortunately didn't do this and had little sun late afternoon. Shower blocks are lovely and clean, again if you have any issues with mobility make sure you pitch close enough. It's about a half hour walk into Coniston, either via old railway track or from the rear of the site lakeside. Wifi and tv reception excellent.
dont go , OK I LIE
the site ., well its the worse site going all those trees, birds singing ,the owls at night ,sound as if talking to each other, the peace and quite you would not like it, very clean loos showers its not normal, OK IAM KIDDING ITS THE BEST , we were there in april june both times 5 nights and been using site since 1996 love it I have just canceled kilin in Scotland for next month and wife wants to go back to YES that's right Coniston think it s more for the beer at the black bull me self ,you make your minds up your self,
Great site for relaxation.
We stayed for 4 nights in June. Although site was fairly busy, the pitches are laid out in such a way that you can maintain privacy. Access to conniston lakeside for dog walking was great. Last 5 miles to site is very narrow at places, but once there you can gain the benefits of this lovely site. Conniston is about 30 mins walk. Would go back as there is much to explore in the area.
Excellent site
Originally booked for just 2 nights but stayed an extra 2 as well, lovely peaceful site with big pitches in natural scenery. The only downside are the roads are so narrow to reach the site and the branches and shrubs are encroaching onto the road which makes meeting vehicles really akward.Once on site we used public transport to minimise the driving and this worked well as the parking charges in the towns around the Lakes are pretty steep anyway.I cannot understand why the councils don't cut back the trees and shrubs on the roadside to help the traffic flow.
Exelent Site
For a site with 260 pitches you would never think so.Wefound a pitch in an area more like a CL.where we could hear all the birds songs & saw a deer run past in the evening. A realy lovely site
