Been coming here since 1993, site has moved on in its facilities since those days! Janet and Carl and their team are a great asset to an amazing site. If you love the lakes you will love Park Coppice.
2nd stay at park coppice recently in MH. staff very friendly and were no bother when we asked to move pitch. most pitches amongst trees but a few are more open. showers/TB lovely and clean. you can walk to coniston along the lake shore or past reception through fields then cross the road to finish past houses. or the bus stops at entrance to the park.
This is a fantastic site. We stopped for a long weekend in mid-May and were blessed with some beautiful weather. The site itself is quite big but its very spread out so there is a feeling of space, the pitches arent all on top of one another. As its set into a hillside levelling chocks are a must, I would also recommend rock pegs for your awning as the ground is very hard. The facilities are modern and spotlessly clean, the staff very friendly and helpful. Its a very dog friendly site and there are plenty of good dog walking places.
Its only a 10 minute walk down to the banks of Coniston Water which is stunning.
Coniston village is about a 20 minute walk away and has a number of pubs (quite important for anywhere we stay!), a few shops, a couple of chip shops but not much else.
We love this site, so much so we booked to go back before we left, but I would re-iterate what some others have mentioned about access if you have a large caravan. For the last 5/6 miles the road is very, very narrow in parts and definitely not for the faint-hearted. But we made it with our 27' long twin axle van so take your time and hold your nerve and you'll be fine.
We stayed at the beginning of June and were blessed with fantastic weather! The site is very steep in parts and you certainly need your levelling chocks! The hardstanding pitches are well kept but are very hard to get your awning pegs into as you seem to hit a lot of tree roots. I don't think this is normally a problem but we were told that they hadn't had rain for quite a while so the ground was a lot harder than normal. The Wardens on site were especially friendly and helpful. We did find a lovely pitch which was quite flat at the bottom of the site. The toilet/shower blocks were lovely and clean and each shut at different times so that at least if one was shut you could use others. This site is great for water lovers as you can walk down to the lake from the site. You do access it down a slope and through the camping field so it may not suit those with limited mobility. You can walk along the lake to Coniston which is a beautiful walk on a sunny day. We wouldn't hesitate to stop here again. Lovely, interesting, well kept site. It was very peaceful until the last day, when inconsiderate new "neighbours" whose kids decided it was great fun to "skid" their bikes right outside our caravan to wind our dogs up whilst their parents looked on. Not the sites fault, but wish some people would be more considerate to others around them.
Love this site. Quite and peaceful and only a stones throw away from the water and a 15/20 mins walk to the village. Great all-round site and dog friendly. Staff and cleanliness were first class. Will most definitely be back
Fantastic stay at this site for the second time, noticed this year despite dog poo bins in plenty full supply inconsiderate dog owners still refuse to clean up after their dog but apart from this great site
This was our first major trip with our new campervan a 1987 VW T25.
We were camping with our two-year-old daughter and found this site absolutely brilliant for all the things we enjoy doing -walking, cycling and spending time on the lake and paddling in it.
The facilities were excellent - a really well looked after site and the availability of toddler wash space was really good including the little bath.
We actually only drove out of the site twice as we found it really accessible by bike and the footpath's into Coniston are lovely, all in all a great site for exploring.
The only downside for us was trying to find a pitch in the sun as the lovely coppice looks wonderful but pitches are largely in shade. But very peaceful and lakeside walk is 2 mins away.
Beautiful site, lovely bunch of wardens and spotless facilities. We will definately be back for a longer break . We have a large motorhome and followed prescribed route. Be aware approach roads are narrow, overhanging trees took our mirror clean off . Had parts delivered to site with wardens blessing. Be careful en route and you'll find a gem of a site
We had a really nice weekend at Coniston with friends in June. The staff were extremely helpful and we're always busy around the site. The site itself was really well laid out in beautiful grounds near the lake. The toilet and shower facilities were about the best we have seen and were immaculate.
Pitches have plenty of space for van, car and awning but be aware you will need levellers. There are some nice pubs and other amenities within a 20 minute or so walk, while the wider area has an amazing range of things to do.
However, having driven for 5 hours from Scotland we found the last 10 miles a bit of a challenge due to very narrow roads and the odd encounter with HGVs !
A final comment, which I make of many sites, is the need for a gel handwash dispenser at the chemical disposal points. I think this should be a standard health and safety requirement on all sites.
We love Coniston Park Coppice, from the moment you arrive the site Team are amazing, you feel so welcome. Coniston is a spacious site with generous pitches, something for everyone. So much to see and do in Coniston and Torver, Grat Pubs and Cafe's nice gift shops and just enough outward bound adventure shops. The Gondola is a must together with all the Campbell Bluebird history and museum. Great walks for all abilities and most places are dog friendly . Will be back before the year is out.
