Surperb setting

This site is set into some of the best countryside that England has to offer. It is well run and well maintained. The hard standing we found to be just that - hard. You do also need to ensure that you have sufficient levelling blocks with you (although the shop does sell them). This is important to note as, being the lakes it rains a lot and getting the awning taut depends on good pegging out and relatively level ground. If you are intending partaking in water based activities there is access to the water, but it is not direct access and is some distance from the lake.

A great weekend away-again!

We spent 3 nights here at the end of April, it was pretty full as it was the bank holiday weekend but we got a pitch on the side of the road,a bit of levelling was needed for the motorhome but great when set up, we had great views of the forest from the rear and as we were on a higher level we couldn't see any other vans. Weathers changeable as always in the Lakes, but on the Friday night we were treated to a star filled clear night sky-amazing. Facilities appeared good as usual although we didn't use them, and a big thank you to the wardens for sorting us out with our 'late' arrival,a very restful stay and we had some brilliant walks in the sun and the rain! A superb site, you can be pitched up amongst other vans and still feel that you've got your own slice of Coniston forest-one of the best sites we have been to!

WALKING OPTIONS

Well laid out and quiet site despite it's size. Wardens friendly and helpful. There are numerous walking options direct from the site with anything from shorter, flat walks along the lake to all out Lakeland hikes. The footpath network in the area is such that it is easy to alter the length and nature of the walk as you go along. In addition to Coniston there are also two pubs in Torver which is about the same distance as Coniston in the opposite direction. Only tried one of the pubs in Torver (Wilsons) but food and beer was very good. Sandwiches appeared a little expensive but fully justified given the quantity and quality of fillings. Large outdoor grassed area at the rear.

Fantastic

I have just returned from this site and felt compelled to put finger to keys. I have never been to the lakes before as the journey from Dorset seemed to put me off, but, it was worth every mile to experience this area. The site was busy but still quiet the amenities were spotless. Fish and chips were great and by southern standards a bargain. But the best part is the location of the site to lake, just a short stroll and you have magnificent views and peace and tranquility.  Do it !!!!!!

GREAT ALL ROUND SITE

Visited this site in late April for 4 nights and wish we had booked for longer. As keen walkers we did not have to move our motorhome from the site as there are so many walks in the local area. Coniston itself has plenty to offer, there are 6 pubs within walking distance of the site (4 in Coniston itself). The Crown has Sky and BT sports. The staff at Coniston were great, booking in was made easy and all the information we needed given without having to ask. We had a choice of plenty of pitches all of which were suitable. We will definitely be back to Coniston in the future.

WOW...love this place

Beautiful site. Big site but so well layed out among the trees that we felt it was our private pitch in the forest. Deer wandered past me on way back from shower block (made my day). Woodpeckers and other lovely birds seen and Robin came in my awning for a little look around and then hopped away again. Ideal to walk into coniston and had boat trip. Black Bull pub very good as was Shop Inn. Will definitely return. Staff were friendly and helpful.

Stunning scenery.

Friendly, helpful wardens from the start to the end of our stay. Quite new block facilities which were immaculate and plentiful. The drying rooms were discovered late, but very useful. Easy access to the lake which is breath taking. Drainage on the site is a challenge and our pitch was very mucky throughout our stay.  Please be warned about the access by road. The handbook under estimates how narrow and difficult the last 7 miles is, there is however no alternative so plan carefully and stay cool! Not easy .......

Will return

This was our second stop on a tour of the Lake District. Our Caravan Club site. On arrival we were told to just drive off and find a pitch. I found this a bit daunting because of the size of the site and the photo copied plan they gave us was not easy to read. I think for first timers it would be helpful to perhaps follow a warden around the site in one of their little trucks, I should say the welcome was very friendly.  The pitches are set out in little cul de sacs. The service points are conveniently located for waste and fresh water and chemical disposal. The showers and toilets very clean and well maintained.  The highlight has to be the walk directly from the site along the edge of Coniston water. It's a flat walk with beautiful scenery. I would recommend the a boat trip out in the lake it was well worth it.  We had a very good meal in the Bluebird Cafe on the edge of the lake. Not cheap but excellent food.  We didn't have children with us but I would love to take the grandchildren to this site. It is very child friendly. This site is in our list as a definite 'will return'

Peace and tranquillity

A lovely peaceful site very clean with lots of wardens to help. Fantastic walks.  The only problem I had was the last 7 or 8 miles was heart in the mouth. Should be no problem with a smaller outfit but mine his 26 ft. Pick your time for travel and no real problem.   I would definitely return.
