Chester revisited.

Not visited this site for a few years. There have been some improvements.  The toilet block is first rate and more hard standings than before.  The friendly wardens maintain a high standard.  Plenty to do. Chester and Ellesmere Port Canal Museum can both be reached by bike using the good canal tow path, about a mile from the site. Site fees are high but so is the quality and of course demand remains high.

Great location

We really enjoyed this site we stayed for 3 nights and found there was so much to do close by. We could also use our bikes from the site and get around. There is a good choice of pubs very close to the site. The wardens were very friendly and polite and the facilities are excellent and were always clean.

Expensive

Price to stay £31.30 ! per night. OK, it was classed as  'high  season' but £31.30 is just ridiculous to pay to stay in my own caravan ! I think the caravan Club is an excellent company, and I can see why an extra charge for non members is justified, but charging members silly prices is a road to killing the goose that laid the golden egg. The site is the usual high  standard and well laid out, the wardens are friendly and very helpful, but that price, ouch !!

Recommended site

Stayed here Easter 2016 for 6 nights. Very well kept quiet site with good sized pitches. Arrivals were managed quickly and efficiently. Toilets, showers, wash room, laundry always fabulously clean and warm. Wardens always very helpful and fish and chip van goes on Monday teatime (although we didn't try any). Good location nr shops and designer outlet and we also went to Liverpool from railway station but you can get a bus which is easier and within walking distance of site. Only moan was that someone had squirted toothpaste all over 1 toilet cubicle in the mens toilet and on cubicle walls. Message for parents- If you had known this happen before on a site you've been on , are you sure it is not your son(s) that did this mindless act? Wardens work long hours and very hard to ensure we all enjoy quality facilities. Let's all be vigilant and try to ensure that such silly and thoughtless acts don't spoil things for everyone else.   Walked to The Rake  pub which was very busy and more of a family pub so we left and went to the Harvester pub at the end of the lane. Food here was disappointingly warm despite waiting 20 mins for our food (we were warned) and also had to wait 40 mins for a table (we didn't book). Menu here was better than the Rake and they have a fresh salad bar.BUT... the best food was at the Hunbury Arms in Stoak about 3/4 mile away. Fantastic menu, excellent food and pretty pub with lovely beer garden- highly recommended. Staff great too.

Immaculate site

We stopped here for 3 nights. What a lovely site, so peaceful. Toilet/shower block was immaculate, whole site maintained and in excellent condition. Lovely safe play area for the children. Staff friendly and helpful. Great location and within walking distance, approx 20mins to Cheshire oaks, Blue planet aquarium and adventure land. Also bus station with Chester not far to visit. Zoo not far either. 3 pubs also within walking distance, hungry horse just 2 mins walk with indoor and outdoor play areas.  Only negative is the first road you have to walk down is fairly busy with no paths!

Visit to Chester Zoo

Very nice site but a tad expensive due to the fact that we had inadvertently booked during, what the Caravan Club considered, to be part of the Easter holidays. Three pubs within walking distance can't be bad but the lane to get to them has no footpath and is busy - would need to be careful with children if walking. Cheshire Oaks Retail Outfit within easy walking distance. Buses can be caught from Cheshire Oaks to both Chester and Liverpool (Number 1 for the Zoo). Site was calm and quiet with big pitches and spotlessly clean. Music whilst showering etc both day and night was delightful (radio 2) and the washing up facilities were enclosed and warm. All staff were helpful. I would recommend this site and would return should we go that direction again.

A Great Location at a Price

As was expected, the club site was immaculately clean, with friendly staff, and perfectly located for visiting this area of the country. We visited Chester, Liverpool and Merseyside for the 4 nights we were there, and if the weather had been better would have explored further. The only gripe is that the prices for this site seem quite extortionate; if 2 adults want to take 2 children over the summer holidays, it's getting on for nearly £40 a night - too much for club members I feel. Recommendations from our visit: try the Mersey Ferry deal which includes the famous ferry from Seacombe where parking is free, a short trip to Woodside to visit the incredible U534 U-Boat Story, and then the ferry across to Liverpool for the open-top bus tour. Well worth the money.

Nice Site

Stayed here whilst visiting some friends, a lovely site, very pleasant wardens greeted us on arrival, and throughout our stay. Notices alot of corners had been cut and grass driven onto by inconsiderate drivers, causing substantial damage, something the wardens will likely take the stick for. The facilities as we have come to expect had wonderfully clean toilets and showers. The only gripe I have is that on one morning the shower block and laundry were closed for water testing, we never saw any signs stating this the day before, other than that a lovely site to which we will return.
