Another lovely site

Lovely location with great walking and amazing views. Whilst we visited there was a problem with the electrics in the toilet/shower block and so these had to be closed for a time. As most of us have facilities in our vans, I told the warden not to worry, but apparently some people were very unhappy about, what we felt, was a fairly minor problem in the big scheme of things. The wardens were doing their utmost to sort the problem and it was with very minimal disruption. Well done for sorting it out and putting up with the plethora of complaints. I would not hesitate to revisit or to recommend this site, great location for exploring and your dog will love this place, ours certainly did.

WALKS GALORE - PAWS FOR THOUGHT

We have used this site lots of times and always come back again. You can easily stay on site for days on end whether you want the town or the country. Loads of walks from site. A 20 minutes walk will take you through the woods down to Buxton - don't forget you have to get back up again. Buxton is a lovely town with loads of history, beautiful gardens, normal range of shops. Has a really good butcher at the top end of the town on LHS, where they hold the market on a Monday. So many places to visit in the area you need at least a week to get round. Lots of attractions for the children, so much to see and do. Site is well maintained and quite private, lots of little cul d sacs to pitch in. Showers are not good, pressure very low, this has always been the case on all our visits here. Tourist Information on site excellent.

Nice site shame about the weather

Good site for walkers with walking access down to Buxton for the fit. Well located for visiting other towns such as Bakewell and Leek or stately homes such Haddon Hall and Chatsworth. Site facilities good and no problem caused by restricted electricity supply to site. Warden all helpful and considerate.

Peaceful and enjoyable

Wardens very pleasant and helpful on a site that's peaceful and situated in a lovely picturesque area .If you have a dog it will be very happy here with a number of different walks around the old quarry including a lovely wooded trail which can take you down to Pooles Cavern which is one of the best in the Peak District. The only reason I marked the site down slightly is because the toilet and shower block which probably dates from the 1980s is in need of a makeover but I'm sure it is on the to do list.

Inflexible

I was surprised to see “Site Full” as I arrived in the evening, yet there were still plenty of pitches to choose from. It seems that the Club has decided to run this site at half capacity until it can fix a transformer that supplies its electricity. I’d have been quite happy not to use EHU but such an option did not exist. I witnessed a French and a Dutch motorhome arrive speculatively and be turned away in spite of all the empty pitches. Goodness knows what they thought. The Club seems to be missing an opportunity here. European mlotorhomes do not need mains electricity. I can only assume that they cannot be trusted not to use it. Speaking of motorhomes, it is a shame that the pitching areas are not made level. The new name suggests that the Club is aware of the needs of motorhomes but that is not evident here. Even hydraulic levelling could not cope with the slope on one pitch, so it was fortunate that there were plenty of alternatives even if they were not level either. Pitching aside, this site is in a lovely location. It’s within an old quarry, set low down and surrounded by rock, so don’t expect a phone signal. It’s a pleasant stroll down into Buxton, with a choice of three supermarkets. If the strain of carrying your shopping back up to the site is too great, the wardens have thoughtfully provided the number of a taxi firm to bring you back. Even though we were prepared to move to any other pitch, we were still expected to leave by noon. As a concession it was possible to extend our visit until 2:00pm but no longer. So, although we enjoyed our stay, it seems that the only material change to the way the Club is being run has been to the uniforms. We won’t be rushing back.

Our first experience

We bought our motor home the day before our visit and used the site as our test base, this is the first U.K. site we had visited and we were pleased, the site is very quiet and has very good and beautiful walks near by. Facilities are adequate water pressure a bit low but hot shower achieved the toilet block although kept clean could do with a makeover. All in all enjoyed our stay and would visit again for a quiet break.

Second visit to a great location.

We spent four nights of the Easter Break at Buxton, and we had a quiet, relaxing and very refreshing trip (including the still Wintry weather). This site is one of the most peaceful CS's on the network, the Location is great for a lot of Derbyshire Towns and Villages, and we picked off Manchester on Good Friday, due to bad weather, and the ladies of the family all voting for a trip to the Trafford Centre. The Gent's Shower and WC block is now a little tired and in need of a refurb - but is clean and serviceable, which is always the main concern. We will return at some point in the future.
