Just spent a very pleasant week, the site is well cared for and with a few exceptions, very well spaced out. The wardens were very polite and helpful. There is a great walk through the country park into Buxton, with wildlife in abundance(perhaps not so good if you find wildlife a nuisance and noisey) but we enjoyed every minute of it and would recommend this site to anyone.

Jewel in the hills

The site is in an excellent location for walks in the woods and across the moors. Also it is very close to the town of Buxton. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. Facilities great, though I had to swap pitch as my elec cable wouldn't reach the plug-in point. I parked near the toilet block, it would be a long walk from the furthest edges of the site on a cold wet night!

Autumn stay

Just had four days here. Been before. Handy for the Peak District. Reasonably quiet. Avoid the pitches that back on to the Park as there are usually people walking by & shouting their dogs etc. The resident jackdaws tend to start squawking early doors & there are a couple of Tawney Owls that have a conversation during the night. The rabbits seem to like having a toilet in the middle of numerous pitches which need to be cleared before putting up your awning. The shower pressure is poor but the hot taps have plenty of pressure?? If you can live with these things then you will be fine.

Visit to the Buxton club site

We stayed at this site last weekend the wardens welcome was lovely, plenty of pitches to choose from. I would agree with other reviews that the wash rooms were very dated and the showers only let out a trickle if water not the best site facilities we have encountered but ok. The site is Very quiet and peaceful lovely walks and cycle paths.

Highly recommended!

If you are intending to visit the Peak District then this may well be the site for you. Set in a former quarry it has matured beautifully. It is laid out in small secluded bays which allows a great sense of peace and calm. Depending where you pitch can leave you quite some distance from the shower block but the wardens and facilities are of the usual high standard. The site itself is adjacent to Grin Low and Buxton Country Park. A short walk can take you to Solomon's Temple, Poole's Cavern or even Go Ape! Also a walk through the park leads to Buxton. The Art Gallery, Museum, Opera House and some great shopping make this a lovely place to spend time. The Crescent is currently being refurbished but is soon to open as a 5 star spa hotel should you want to indulge yourself! There are plenty of walks and cycling opportunities straight out of the site making this a good location for a wide variety of activities. Highly recommended!

Our Visit to the Buxton Site

My wife & I have just returned from a 14 night stay at this site & thoroughly enjoyed the whole holiday. All four wardens were very pleasant, helpful & worked hard to keep the site immaculate. The facilities were always spotlessly clean & functional, but as others have said, maybe a little tired. Hopefully they are not too far down the Club's list for a refurb. Just be aware that the facilities are a long walk from the pitches at the north end of the site & involve walking up & down slopes. There is an abundance of wildlife on & around the site, ranging from a variety of birds, including owls & hawks, together with rabbits to watch while enjoying a beer sitting outside your van. The site is positioned well for visiting places of interest in & around the National Park. We used the 'things to do nearby' list on the CC website & found something to do every day. The furthest we traveled to visit an attraction was a 40 mile round trip. Most places we visited were actually closer than this. A visit to the town of Buxton is a must, with so many interesting buildings and a superb park. If you plan to visit the village of Castleton there is an opportunity for you to park for free. In the village is hotel called the Peak Hotel and opposite is a public pay & display car park which is actually owned by the hotel. If you spend £10+ on food & drink in the hotel they refund your parking charges. We ate there twice at lunchtime during our stay & both times we found the food to be very good & not too expensive. We would highly recommend this site.

Recent stay

We stayed at this site last weekend the wardens welcome was lovely, plenty of pitches to choose from. I would agree with other reviews that the wash rooms were very dated and the showers only let out a trickle if water not the best site facilities we have encountered but ok. The site is Very quiet and peaceful lovely walks and cycle paths. We only went into buxton for Sunday lunch and ate at the old club house. I must say the lunch was really tasty, big portions and very hot would definitely recommend a visit. All in all a lovely stay and we will certainly return.

A great site

We stayed here for 3 nights in September the welcome from the wardens was very friendly. The location is great with loads of walks right on your doorstep, Buxton is a very nice town with loads of shops, coffee shops, bars etc. We never used the deal for the taxi on the way back as we walked both ways. We were a little apprehensive about our visit after reading reviews but please don't believe all you read. We were on pitch 1, the wifi was great. Sure the shower pressure isn't great but they are usable. The toilet block is what I term usual CC standard kept immaculately clean. I do agree however with Meeks10's view on the chips, not good :-(  All in all? A great site and only 65 miles from home, we will be back
