Our Visit to the Buxton Site

My wife & I have just returned from a 14 night stay at this site & thoroughly enjoyed the whole holiday. All four wardens were very pleasant, helpful & worked hard to keep the site immaculate. The facilities were always spotlessly clean & functional, but as others have said, maybe a little tired. Hopefully they are not too far down the Club's list for a refurb. Just be aware that the facilities are a long walk from the pitches at the north end of the site & involve walking up & down slopes. There is an abundance of wildlife on & around the site, ranging from a variety of birds, including owls & hawks, together with rabbits to watch while enjoying a beer sitting outside your van. The site is positioned well for visiting places of interest in & around the National Park. We used the 'things to do nearby' list on the CC website & found something to do every day. The furthest we traveled to visit an attraction was a 40 mile round trip. Most places we visited were actually closer than this. A visit to the town of Buxton is a must, with so many interesting buildings and a superb park. If you plan to visit the village of Castleton there is an opportunity for you to park for free. In the village is hotel called the Peak Hotel and opposite is a public pay & display car park which is actually owned by the hotel. If you spend £10+ on food & drink in the hotel they refund your parking charges. We ate there twice at lunchtime during our stay & both times we found the food to be very good & not too expensive. We would highly recommend this site.

Recent stay

We stayed at this site last weekend the wardens welcome was lovely, plenty of pitches to choose from. I would agree with other reviews that the wash rooms were very dated and the showers only let out a trickle if water not the best site facilities we have encountered but ok. The site is Very quiet and peaceful lovely walks and cycle paths. We only went into buxton for Sunday lunch and ate at the old club house. I must say the lunch was really tasty, big portions and very hot would definitely recommend a visit. All in all a lovely stay and we will certainly return.

A great site

We stayed here for 3 nights in September the welcome from the wardens was very friendly. The location is great with loads of walks right on your doorstep, Buxton is a very nice town with loads of shops, coffee shops, bars etc. We never used the deal for the taxi on the way back as we walked both ways. We were a little apprehensive about our visit after reading reviews but please don't believe all you read. We were on pitch 1, the wifi was great. Sure the shower pressure isn't great but they are usable. The toilet block is what I term usual CC standard kept immaculately clean. I do agree however with Meeks10's view on the chips, not good :-(  All in all? A great site and only 65 miles from home, we will be back

My favourite site

Had a quick weekend away here having only been once before a year ago. It was wonderful. Its so quiet and such gorgeous surroundings. A good walk in to Buxton which has come on leaps and bounds in the last 12 months. Had a lovely meal and a few beers before a taxi back with a very friendly driver. The facilities are spotless and the wifi was great around the park. The only negative I have is nothing to do with the campsite - the fish and chips from the van were terrible. You have to wait for them as they are all cooked to order by the one chap who runs it so you would expect lovely fresh food - its not. The chips are horrible, the fish was bland - I think it is all pre frozen then left to defrost or something. Avoid. Other than that cant wait to go back!!

What a lovely site

We found the site easy to find. It is set in a lovely quarry with good walks that you can take from the site. We loved this site. The staff were helpful and friendly, we were made to feel very welcome. The toilet block was clean and good but probably needs some updating. The pitches are well spaced, you don't feel overcrowded. I can throughly recommend this site and will revisit it in the near future.

First stop on Autumn Tour

Buxton is a good clean Spa town within walking distance for early retirees and will be even better when the restorations are completed. Travel to places like Dovedale is easy. A Mallard duck joined us for our picnic there, undeterred by our dogs. Hilarious! This was our second visit this year and we will come again. This was our first stop on our way to The Trossachs. We will be visiting York, Durham and Edinburgh on the way, so watch out for updates.

Late Review

We stayed here for two weeks in August, the site is very well kept and the guys and gals are most helpfull. Its a smashing site with plenty to do on the doorstep, Buxton is a nice town with lots to see and do there. The Pavilion Gardens are great this time of year. If you feel a bit peckish try The Lone Star for the best meal in town. Unlike some people I really cannot think of anything to complain about, two week s was easy to fill. Would recommend to anyone and we will be back.

Worth a Visit

Thoroughly enjoyed weekend at Buxton. Site has sloping pitches as well as gravel flatter ones so had to try a few before getting properly settled.  Lots to choose from though and in an unusual, sheltered and pretty location. Had dogs with me and was delighted to find many walks next to site through woods or over the dales.  Site is quiet and friendly with friendly, patient and busy staff, they kept the site immaculate.  Great facilities, all you need and expect, maintained well and spotlessly clean.  The weather was glorious which is such a bonus.  Would recommend to friends and very happy to make a return trip.  Surrounding countryside and villages stunning and quaint, Buxton was a busy and thriving centre.

The Palmer family return to Derbyshire

We had great time at this site. This is our second visit . It's great for walking with our dog. Buxton is just thru the woods and is a very dog friendly town. The site is well run. It is very clean. It is extremely secure. We will definitely be returning.  Sheila, Bob & Bailey.
