Concerns about the road into the site and how wardens handle traffic

I have written a detailed complaint letter about the way my arrival was handled on Saturday a few minutes after 1pm. I think the road is a serious risk issue, the staff member I met wasn't trained enough to deal with traffic or customers in a caring, intelligent and considerate way. I almost left and went home, but I'd already paid. This coloured my impressions of the site, which in itself is lovely, clean and beautiful views. I'm afraid I won't return, which is a shame, as most wardens on other sites have been warm and welcoming.

Not For Everyone

As the only campsite serving Buxton this site is understandably popular. However, there is no bus service and it is a long walk (40 mins) into town through a hilly forest and will not suit many "non car towing" motorhomers, particularly when returning in the dark from a night out in town. Thankfully there are usually £7 taxis available. Also, the staff are regimentally obsessed about their 1pm entry system and "customers" are treated like children in the way they are "welcomed !" to the campsite. While all this clearly suits many people it is not for us and, after similar experiences elsewhere with the CAMC, we are now thinking of transfering to the Camping and Caravan Club who seem to be more relaxed and welcoming.

Beautiful and peaceful.

From arrival to departure the staff couldn't have been more amiable and helpful. First time at the site and it won't be the last. The site and facilities are kept in pristine condition and are a credit to the staff. Although the site was extremely busy it had an air of tranquility about it. A visit down to Pooles Cavern was but a short (steep) walk down through the woods where you will find the show cavern and a very nice cafe serving lots of local produce. No TV and very poor mobile phone signal (EE) made for a nice quiet weekend. If you want to get a signal take a short walk up to Solomons Temple where you will find extensive view across the hills and dales.

Loved it!!!

This site suited us perfectly! Beautifully situated in an old quarry...we particularly loved the peace, quiet and relative solitude (it's a long way from the toilets lol) at the bottom end of the site. Staff very friendly and helpful and facilities extremely clean and tidy at all times! Lovely walk down through the forest to Buxton. We only booked 2 nights here as we'd not been to Derbyshire before and wanted to visit a few different places. Wish we hadn't bothered with Bakewell and stayed here for longer so already wondering if we can squeeze another break in before Autumn sets in...

Location, Location, Location !

Location, location , location- Yes it's so far from road it's very very quiet and suited us perfectly. Great site within a disused quarry so well protected from wind. Sun a little late rising but don't recognise that big orange thing in the sky these days. The staff were fantastic and being first timer we had a little electrical problem on our MHome. Staff attended and checked few things out and diagnosed a faulty lead !! It was brand new - not good but they had them on sale so was up and running without much delay at all. All pitches are good and toilets and facilities were immaculately clean. Right from the greeting as you approach site to our departure the staff were very courteous and helpful. Already looking forward to returning with there Ebikes. Oh yes the walk into town is very pleasant and about 35 mins through woodland and quite steep returning, but never once deterred us walking into town.

Lovely relaxing stay

A first time for us staying in the Peak District and neither the area nor campsite disappointed. The wardens were extremely friendly and helpful. The facilities exceptionally clean and the service points all in one area. My husband was slightly disappoint when our satellite TV couldn't pick up the football. Easy walking distance to Buxton through a lovely woodland area. Beautiful walks on the door step. The wardens printed off several maps for us and we really enjoyed the Manifold valley and Dovedale walk. Fish and chips on site and a bottle of wine. Who needs more!

Nice site, Noisy neighbours

We stayed here for 3 nights, the site is nice with some good walks. Unfortunately our stay was spoiled by a group of young adults 7 in 2 tents on one pitch. Car parked on the grass at the side of the tents became the mobile disco for Friday night, heavy base and unbelievably loud voices thankfully finished at 2130 Saturday was great they went out for the day and was fairly quiet when they returned. Sunday morning, the sound of the car boot slamming at 0730 woke us up followed by their ridiculously loud talking, one of the party brushed there teeth using the fresh water supply tap while a couple played tennis then the music started at 8am. A call to the wardens to complain about the noise and the response he gave was they are leaving this morning, and that was repeated a few times, there was no way he was going to walk over to check, he advised that noise was allowed until 10pm, i did question him about not from 8am on a Sunday morning and then got the same reply, they are leaving soon, he then said the wardens have a walk around the site every evening and they heard nothing from the tents all weekend, we didn't see a warden go further than the end of the toilet blocks. Once the campers left, the site became quiet again and we enjoyed our last day. Its a nice site in a good location.

Quiet, peaceful site

We had a 3 night stay in our Campervan. Lovely and quiet, lots of wildlife and wildflowers around the site. Facilities were very clean and well maintained. Lovely walk into Buxton, which is beautiful with lots of eateries, park and gardens. Good for walking and cycling nearby. A short drive to Chatsworth and Bakewell which was the main purpose for visiting the area on this occasion, we will return to explore further.
