Wardens

Visited for a week in June 2021. Very good location and clean site. Spoilt a little by one of the wardens attitude when cutting grass and throwing part of my awning back onto my pitch from where I had laid out to dry.

Fantastic welcome

Stayed twice in last month - both times a fantastic warm and informative welcome. Staff really friendly and helpful. Facilities are kept immaculate which must be a challenge in current Covid times. Booked a non awning pitch for Loch side views - fabulous location for site and surrounding locations - thank you to the staff, can’t wait to return

Weekend away

We just returned from a weekend stay at Bunree from 11th to 14th June and it was an ideal location for us to do the Steam train journey from Fort William. On arrival the warden was extremely friendly and gave me all the advice I needed when asked her. The site is lovely and peaceful and we had a non awning pitch overlooking the water which was absolutely stunning when the weather was ok but a bit dismal otherwise. The weather as I realise is just luck. Facilities were the usual high standard that the caravan club delivers as per our experience on most sites. If you intend to use it as a base to visit different places then this is ideal. Thank you to the wardens for making our stay pleasurable.

First visit

Nice location next to the loch and good views on a clear day. The site was well maintained and showers clean although they are overdue an update. WIFI was pretty poor but good 4g if away from the tree covered cliffs at the south of the site, equally tv signal no good at the south side. I would recommend choosing a non awning pitch so you can be at the front of the site with uninterrupted views of the loch and maybe see a seal or two.You also benefit from a breeze which helps keep midges away. Very quiet at night, could hear owls hooting and also heard a cuckoo calling through the day. The loch side is very stony, large stones make walking difficult, fine for launching a canoe or paddle board, but our dog hated it she struggled on the stones. There is a reasonable dog area where you can let your dog off lead. Both the female wardens were very helpful and friendly.

Pitch perfect

Half way through a four night stay on tour of Scotland located on pitch 30 right on the loch side this is the most perfect pitch on a beautiful site. The location is stunning. Very scary drive along the A82 Loch Lomond road and several people on site report damage to their mirrors. We arrived unscathed. Toilet / shower block old style and dated but the idyllic location more than makes up for it. Good internet and telephone connection. Top tip book a non awning pitch you are guaranteed a loch side pitch. Fishing to loch permitted, good walks nearby, great for dogs.

Comment from the Club

Thank you so much for your wonderful review and we are delighted you enjoyed your stay at Bunree. We just wanted to advise to avoid disappointment in the future that we have some non-awning pitches off the Lochside so booking a non-awning pitch doesn't actually guarantee a Lochside location.

Just about perfect

This site is just about perfect. The loch is just a few feet away so superb views & somewhere for the kids to paddle. The location feels like the middle of nowhere but is actually just a short drive to Fort William with supermarkets etc. Its set back from the main road sufficiently to escape any point of road noise so its lovely peaceful place to stay.

Lovely site

Lovely site and views over the loch are terrific but toilet facilities are a bit dated. If you go for a loch side pitch, the downside is you cannot have an awning and you suffer slightly less privacy as everyone walks along the path that runs alongside the loch and back down again and also people need to cross the lochside pitches to get to the path. If this is an issue probably best to get a pitch on the 2nd row back (the pitches are staggered so that they still get a view). Most dog owners I saw were very responsible but there were one or two who let their dogs run off their lead outside the dog walking area. Locals also use the site for dog walking so they may not have been staying on site. Road to Fort William is quite bendy and although limited to 50 mph, during the week its a busy road especially with articulated lorries (so drive with caution). If you cycle - I highly recommend the Fort William to Commando memorial (Spean Bridge) ride along the canal - lovely route with very little traffic. If visiting Steall Falls and you have a motorhome or campervan, be aware that there are several short bridges on the single track road with a 3 ton weight limit on the way to the upper Steall Falls car park. Best to park at the lower falls car park which is just at the part where the road turns to single track. Also, now is a good time to take a trip on the Jacobite train to Mallaig as many hotels etc are still closed so plenty of tickets available.

1st visit & will definitely be back

This was our 1st visit to Bunree & I can see why it gets such good reviews. We were lucky to have a loch side pitch and the view was amazing, it was so peaceful. No queue on arrival only 1 person waiting to sign in which was quick & informed. The wardens are very helpful & answer any questions you may have. The toilet/shower block was open with covid band system in place which worked well & the facilities were very clean Lovely walk to Inchree waterfall about 15 minutes & we took the 2 minute free to foot passengers ferry across to Ardgour Will definitely return to Bunree for a relaxing break with beautiful scenery

Great Experience

Just returned from Bunree our first visit did not disappoint. An excellent location superb views. Toilet/shower Block needs updating nevertheless it was clean and tidy. As dog owners the dog area is some what restricted and they encourage you not to walk between pitches in order to get to it. Having read a previous review about dogs being walked in front of loch side pitches and fouling well firstly there didn’t appear to be an alternative as there was a distinct gravel path to walk on leading to the dog walk and any responsible owner should pick up after there dog. Unfortunately dogs can’t toilet to command and they go when they go. During our stay of 12 days I didn’t witness any dog owner not picking up.

Spectacular views, don't forget your walking boots.

Excellent loch side pitch with absolutely stunning views. Good hill walking from site plus the free foot passenger ferry to Ardgour just a 5 min walk away and well worth the trip (fee applies if taking vehicle across). Queue on arrival at site not so good but maybe people arrive early to 'bag' a Lochside pitch? Toilet block could do with an update. Covid wrist band entry system worked well. So many people with dogs on this site and despite dog walking area the dog owners repeatedly walked their dogs directly in front of Lochside pitches allowing their dog to foul right in front of motorhomes. Not pleasant at all.
