Lovely site

We love this site, staying longer than planned both times we’ve used it. Facilities are up to usual club standards, and the Pub up in Inchree is an easy walk with great food. One minor complaint was how often the wardens cut the grass around us, which seemed to go on for quite some time, yet barely looked like they’d cut anything more than a few daisy heads off. Born out by how wet our feet got when walking across the grass to the toilet block. Remember to book a non awning pitch if you want to go front row. Site can get very windy, certainly too windy for awnings at the front. But the views across the Loch are great. We’ll be back.

Great location

Beautiful location and very clean, well maintained site. Would definitely stay here again. Lots to do in and around the area. Only snag is the size of the stones under awning pitch. Some are quite large making it a bit uncomfortable underfoot but fine if you have a good carpet.

The brilliance of Bunree

From arrival to departure our experience of Bunree was great. We were pitched at the back of the site, but still had a great view of the beach and Loch. It’s a very short walk down to the pebbled beach area which on walking along there’s an area allocated to allow dogs roam free without a lead. We were a short distance from the children’s play park which is well equipped with various climbing frames, monkey bars, swings and chutes at which our 5 year old grandson had great fun. A family friendly site many children walked or cycled around the road/one way site very safely. The site has been there for some time so decor may appear a little dated, but the facilities are very good. Hot showers, running water, ample amounts of toilets and shower cubicles, sink areas and outside dish washing areas are easily accessible. Would recommend that anyone visiting takes blocks to use under their wheels as the hardstands can be a little uneven, but it’s certainly not a deal breaker. This was our first visit, but definitely won’t be our last.

Good Site

We have been using this site for over 14 years now. The views are stunning and we saw otters, herons and buzzards. There is plenty to see and do in the area and some lovely walks. The grass was quite long in many places and only a couple of area were cut the week we stayed. It was also left to grow very long around trees which made the site look messy and uncared for. There was also a lot of gravel on the roads which was not blown back on to pitches as I have seen at other sites. A few people mentioned how untidy this was. Also there was broken glass in the car parking/late arrivals area which was not picked up, just swept to one side. The dog walk can be very wet and muddy and is very slippy to walk on. From other reviews, you are made to feel as though you can not walk anywhere else on the site with your dog. People don't pay extra for the grass in front of their pitch along side the loch. The grass is not exclusive to loch side pitches, so people can walk along the front or sit on a bench and admire the view with their dog if they choose to. As long as everyone picks up their dog mess then what is the problem? Don't watch if you are eating! We can't tell a dog exactly when to do their business so if it happen on route to the dog walk, then it happens. We also can't tell a dog how many to do, so if it does another one after the dog walk, then it does another one. I never saw any dog mess not picked up the whole week which was surprising. I did, however, have a problem with dogs barking early in a morning. This is the only time of the year we don't have to set our alarms to go to work and it would be great not to be woke up early!

Wonderful

Easy to find, the traffic light system to the site is a great idea. On site the views are wonderful, only non awning customers are allowed Lochside, which is fair enough to prevent the view being blocked, however given the size of some motorhomes nowadays, they detract from the view anyway. I agree with others re dogs, though in honesty its a situation that has worsened in recent years wherever you go. I get cheesed off with hearing barking dogs and then owners shouting even louder that their pets. Does away with peace and quiet theory. Members speeding was clearly evident here too. Back to the site. Within walking distance is a pub cum restaurant cum hostel, Four Seasons, which serves great food and is very comfortable and clean, recommend the Balmoral Chicken or Salmon. Fort William is 10 miles away and has a large Morrisons or Asda (can't remember which) by the rail station. The town has a good feel and is worth visiting. Think twice about the Harry Potter/Jacobite rail journey. You might get a decent view when the trees aren't in full bloom but in summer it hides most of it, bit of a rip off really. Ben Nevis, tourist climb, can be accessed close to here too. The multi locks at the Caledonian Canal is here also. Isle of Mull can be accessed via several ferry points in the area and is well worth a visit, the whale watching via Sealife at Tobermory was a great day out, as was a trip to Scaffa Island to see the puffins. Glencoe is close by as are many other areas of beauty. One word of advice, if travelling from Glasgow on the A82 there are very few petrol stations in fact hardly any, the first is at Ballachulish, after that you get plenty lol

Still a really nice site, but?

We have used Bunree Caravan site on numerous occasions for short breaks and long stays over the past 18 years, as a couple or with children and most recently grandchildren. It has been a great place for relaxing or as a location for exploring the surrounding area and numerous mountains etc. It probably rates amongst the best locations the Club can offer. As generally found on any club site, the Wardens here have always presented as helpful, friendly, hardworking and suitably assertive when required. However a few problems are evident. 1) In recent years it is becoming more apparent that there is an increasing amount of dogs being brought on site with some campers having in my opinion a ridiculous number. I appreciate that specifically is none of my business and appreciate dogs under control should not be a problem, but the issue I have is the clear disregard shown by a high number of campers for the “Site rules” applicable to dog owners. The so called specific “Dog Walk” area is not being used solely as instructed. At any time of day or night there is no shortage of dogs being walked around the site and allowed to do what dogs do?? Generally on the large grass areas, grass between hard standings, Water & Waste service points, peoples awnings/property etc.. I have witnessed dogs roaming loose or tethered on a long leash doing their business around the owners pitch and adjacent grass/pitch, with the owners unaware of the mess their dog (dogs) has made or perhaps possibly not bothered? It is also apparent at night numerous dog owners are just letting dogs out for a quick run around “etc.”, before going to bed. This problem surely creates the potential for cross contamination and possible health issues, making the grass areas at least, less than ideal for children to sit or play (Even when “solids” are picked up there is still going to be some residual waste). 2) The speed limit is in place for very good reason, yet the number of people driving around the site well above the speed limit is astonishing, especially so when young children can clearly be seen nearby. More evident when some new arrivals are “competing” to secure a good pitch. 3) The soiled state the Toilets/shower block is often left in by some after the wardens do their best to get them clean is unacceptable. These people should have more self-respect and consideration for others. I would be surprised if people conducted themselves in the same manner within their own homes??

Comment from the Club:

Many thanks for your review and we are so pleased to read you have visited Bunree on many occasions and that the site has been a great place for you to relax and enjoy the location. We are sorry to read you were disturbed by dogs on the site. If you ever have any concerns please speak to the site staff at the time who will be able to investigate. If you would also like to make a formal complaint or share your feedback with the club please visit https://www.caravanclub.co.uk/contact/compliments-and-complaints/ and your feedback will then go directly to the relevant team.

The Best View

We stayed here in our caravan with awning so were unable to pitch on the front line, but did manage to get just behind on the second row. The views are spectacular across the Loch and there are a couple of well-placed benches for you to go and sit and just gaze. We even spotted a dolphin on one of our gazing sessions. The facilities are clean but looking dated compared to most other club sites. We walked up to the ferry, approximately 10 minutes, and went across as foot passengers, with our dog, there is no charge and it's well worth doing. We then did a short walk and again returned on the ferry. The Coop in Ballachulish is easy to find and stocks most things you would need. We walked up Ben Nevis on one of our days so decided we deserved take away that evening - the only draw back being the nearest place open was in Fort William where we had just returned from, so it meant another journey as way too tired to cook!
