We stayed here for a 3 night mid week break, not really sure what to expect, but what a treat it was. Our first since sites opened post Covid. Great to see staff and members were being sensible. We did not use the facilities but used our own to be safer. Nice location, village is a short walk/cycle ride away, don’t drive no point. Lots of lovely lanes for cycle rides, we found some lovely villages. Just outside the site is a bridle way which is suitable for cycling too. As MoHomers we don’t usually de camp to explore so this was ideal as we used our bikes. The on site storage area was quite busy so lots of comings and goings.
We've stayed here a couple of times now as it isn't too far from home. We stay here to do walks in the area rather than travelling from home each time.
The site is lovely, very quiet, great pitches and clean facilities. TV signal is great. Some pitches are in the sun all day, some for a few hours in the day it all depends on the time of the year that you visit.
Plenty of places to walk the pooch and loads of long walks/hikes nearby.
Ashwell is within walking distance. There are 3 pubs, all used to sell food but there had recently been a hike in their rents which has resulted in 1 shutting until further notice, another (Rose & Crown) currently only selling drinks and the Three Tuns selling drink and food (although this may change soon). Such a shame as the pubs are lovely.
Not far from Royston and Baldock where there are plenty of supermarkets.
One negative comment about our recent visit. The wardens were not the friendliest. They were not rude they just didn't seem to want to interact. Other than that one thing its a brilliant site.
A great small site close to the village of Ashwell so good for Motorhomers. In Ashwell itself, only one of the three pubs has a permanent landlord and is serving food, but the shops (bakers, butcher, pharmacy and coffee shop) are good and there is a petrol station. The village shop is basic, and closes 1.30pm until 3pm in February at least. There is a fantastic farm shop just a mile (off road walk) away, and there was a community pub in the next village (one of the Mordens). The whole area is great for walking and cycling.
No point repeating what others have said. In summary a lovely little site immaculately kept by helpful site managers: easy to find and access providing directions given by the club are followed: conveniently located for lots of local attractions including Duxford air museum half hour away.
Now, the important bit: food and drink!!
Of the three pubs in Ashwell the Bushel and strike is closed until "further notice". The Rose and Crown is spasmodically open but seeking new tenants. This leaves the three tuns, conveniently the one nearest.
A very cheery welcome, Dogs allowed in the bar and you can eat there as well. Food, for the location and price was excellent. Freshly cooked, not a microwaved bit in sight, free range chicken, innovative (chicken parmigiano was a treat to find in a small-village pub)... a little bit of a wait time but nothing to complain about. Again the wine list was above average for the type of location.
Elsewhere in the village, a lovely little tea room, a great butchers, a pharmacy, post office and news and an artisan bakers. For those of faith three churches to choose from.
This site is definitely one I want to return to. Even with storm Brendan shaking the van if felt a very comfortable place to be.
A return stay, just for a night this year but time enough to wander down to the attractive village of Ashwell and enjoy a walk to the wells and river Cam which looked lovely in the autumn. A very nice little site.
Well just spent two nights here. An absolute Gem!
Lots to see and lovely walks and bike rides. Quiet and the wardens so helpful and nice. Facilities were as you expect, excellent.
See you again soon.
This site is a delight, small and perfectly formed. From the moment of arrival and meeting the friendly, efficient wardens you know this is a laid back, relaxing place to be. Although small the facilities are spotless and warm. WiFi on site is very good. Radio reception is ok, can’t comment on tv. Phone signal with EE is a bit patchy.
Ashwell is a lovely village and has a shop, bakery, butchers shop and 3 pubs. The church is a gem, the highlight for me was the medieval graffiti. Lots of POI in the area including Wimpole and Duxford etc. Traffic free walks direct from site.
Plenty of supermarkets and petrol stations in Royston and Baldock
Just had seven nights here and didn't want to leave, will definitely be returning, Wardens very helpful, toilets, showers very clean, lovely little site and busy too, cant say we thought much of the local pubs, decided to go further afield for nice food. Good road links etc.
We stayed at the site for 4 Nights and had a wonderful time. The Wardens (Temporary Ones) were wonderful and assisted us when we had questions. The site is clean and tidy. A short walk into the village where there are Pubs and a Museum; plus, a couple of churches, that we were made very welcome at. We will be going back later in the year.
Have just come back from a thoroughly pleasant weekend at Ashridge Farm.
Having read a review about aircraft noise I was surprised that we weren't bothered by it at all. Yes, there is some light and occasional noise but the aircraft are not exactly into their final descent on to the runway.
The site was small and peaceful so would probably not appeal to families. There were no children about when we were there. Plenty of dogs though and with plenty of places to walk then this is a good location to stay.
The village (about a 10 minute walk to the centre) was very attractive and the three pubs offered something different and were great.
The whole ambience of the site was fresh and clean and the flower beds were beautiful.
Would definitely come back again in the future.
