Great site, shame about the younger wardens

We enjoyed our stay at this site, but our initial welcome was very poor. We unfortunately arrived 10 minutes before the arrival time of 1pm. We waited until the office opened at 1pm which then had a barrier across the door so we were unsure as to whether to stay in our motorvan during covid times. Both the younger male and female warden walked straight past me without a word and noses in the air before opening the office door. We continued to stay by the van for 10 more minutes to hear the male warden swearing loudly using the f word. Now 1.10pm and 2 more vans pulling up behind us we thought safely we should go to the office door. After being in the club for more than 30 years this has been the most shambolic welcome we've experienced. Added to this grass fingers definitely needed cutting, but was sorted by a much more friendly elderly warden during the week. This was a pleasant end to our stay.

Nice little site

We stayed on this site with our dog for 8 nights. The site was full almost constantly and only the grassed area outside the main barrier was available when we arrived. We were unsure at first but it soon became apparent that this was actually a good thing for us. There are good dog walks right from the site to open fields. We were a little irritated by the large number of little yapping dogs but nothing the Wardens can do about that! It certainly isn't an issue for us returning - as the benefits of the site far outweigh that minor grumble. The site was well maintained and the Wardens did a good job to keep the site Covid compliant. Ashwell village is a short stroll away and has an excellent coffee shop, baker and butcher. The visit by the Thai food vendor -- Fellowes Fayre - was an added bonus. We'll be back.

Fabulous Site

Visited the site over many years and it never disappoints, immaculately maintained and a nice friendly atmosphere. The current Wardens are friendly and hard working especially with COVID and the extra work involved to keep us safe. Also a big thumbs up to them for getting the Street Thai van on site on Friday nights, absolutely delicious, we’ll done! PS keep an eye out for the “bird boxes” made from their old work boots.

A charming little site.

We stayed here for 3 nights at the start of a tour of the South East. This was our first visit and we found it to be a charming little site on the edge of the equally charming village of Ashwell. The site is well maintained and although there is a large storage compound attached we didn’t find that to be intrusive or to detract from the overall ambience. We received a friendly welcome from the lady warden though I have to agree with the earlier reviewer who found her husband to be rather less so. Corvid restrictions were in place and well detailed although we used our own facilities rather than the toilet/shower block. A word of general warning, I had to brining the 12.5% discount due from The price booked at the beginning of July to the attention of the warden who thought it had already been deducted. It hadn’t! I have encountered the same problem at our next site at Bearsted. At both site wardens admitted that they may have omitted to deduct this from other members site fees. Members beware!! Overall a very nice site, small, neat and quiet.

Not Very Welcoming

Not the friendliest of welcomes arrived about 4pm reception closed so rang the bell. Warden came out of his accommodation not looking too happy. I tried to speak to him but he didn't really want to know. Felt like I was inconveniencing him. Was told pitches that were free on a site plan and which want did I want in an abrupt manner so just picked anyone. Normally find the welcome from club sites very good.

So pleased we went.

We stayed here for a 3 night mid week break, not really sure what to expect, but what a treat it was. Our first since sites opened post Covid. Great to see staff and members were being sensible. We did not use the facilities but used our own to be safer. Nice location, village is a short walk/cycle ride away, don’t drive no point. Lots of lovely lanes for cycle rides, we found some lovely villages. Just outside the site is a bridle way which is suitable for cycling too. As MoHomers we don’t usually de camp to explore so this was ideal as we used our bikes. The on site storage area was quite busy so lots of comings and goings.

Great Site

We've stayed here a couple of times now as it isn't too far from home. We stay here to do walks in the area rather than travelling from home each time. The site is lovely, very quiet, great pitches and clean facilities. TV signal is great. Some pitches are in the sun all day, some for a few hours in the day it all depends on the time of the year that you visit. Plenty of places to walk the pooch and loads of long walks/hikes nearby. Ashwell is within walking distance. There are 3 pubs, all used to sell food but there had recently been a hike in their rents which has resulted in 1 shutting until further notice, another (Rose & Crown) currently only selling drinks and the Three Tuns selling drink and food (although this may change soon). Such a shame as the pubs are lovely. Not far from Royston and Baldock where there are plenty of supermarkets. One negative comment about our recent visit. The wardens were not the friendliest. They were not rude they just didn't seem to want to interact. Other than that one thing its a brilliant site.

Good local facilities

A great small site close to the village of Ashwell so good for Motorhomers. In Ashwell itself, only one of the three pubs has a permanent landlord and is serving food, but the shops (bakers, butcher, pharmacy and coffee shop) are good and there is a petrol station. The village shop is basic, and closes 1.30pm until 3pm in February at least. There is a fantastic farm shop just a mile (off road walk) away, and there was a community pub in the next village (one of the Mordens). The whole area is great for walking and cycling.

The pub is pretty good as well

No point repeating what others have said. In summary a lovely little site immaculately kept by helpful site managers: easy to find and access providing directions given by the club are followed: conveniently located for lots of local attractions including Duxford air museum half hour away. Now, the important bit: food and drink!! Of the three pubs in Ashwell the Bushel and strike is closed until "further notice". The Rose and Crown is spasmodically open but seeking new tenants. This leaves the three tuns, conveniently the one nearest. A very cheery welcome, Dogs allowed in the bar and you can eat there as well. Food, for the location and price was excellent. Freshly cooked, not a microwaved bit in sight, free range chicken, innovative (chicken parmigiano was a treat to find in a small-village pub)... a little bit of a wait time but nothing to complain about. Again the wine list was above average for the type of location. Elsewhere in the village, a lovely little tea room, a great butchers, a pharmacy, post office and news and an artisan bakers. For those of faith three churches to choose from. This site is definitely one I want to return to. Even with storm Brendan shaking the van if felt a very comfortable place to be.

Ashridge Farm

A return stay, just for a night this year but time enough to wander down to the attractive village of Ashwell and enjoy a walk to the wells and river Cam which looked lovely in the autumn. A very nice little site.
