Perfectly placed for Hay but large outfits beware.

Lovely site for all of the reasons mentioned but access is very difficult for large outfits. We tow an 8 metre twin axle with a Disco 5 which is just too long. The turn is too tight with a high stone wall to the left and a low corner wall to the right. By the time the trailing wheel has reached the low corner wall which you have to be within an inch of (so not to hit the back of the van on the high wall when turning) and you are then free to turn, the tow car is half way up the neighbours drive and the post sign for the site stops you turning the car over the kerb. First time in thirty years of towing that I have had to unhitch and use motor mover for access. Getting out is easier but could not be done in one go, had to reverse up the neighbours drive to straighten the van. Owners are lovely and do give a warning on the confirmation that some twin axles have found it easier to unhitch. If you have a shorter tow car with good lock (not the Disco 5) you may be ok. So be warned but once you are in it is all you would expect from a good CL. Would love to return with a shorter van!!

Paradise!

A spacious, tranquil site, which is well maintained. Owners offer useful advice about the area and are really helpful and pleasant. Easy walk into Hay, which is a charming and cultured small market town. Lots to do in the area with the Wye being very close by. Fabulous site - we’ll definitely return.

We arrived early evening and booked on route (last minute) Owners were very friendly and accommodating and would have helped if access to online booking/email was limited. Site was all that we could wish for, a peaceful space! we would would definitely like to visit again. Thank you

You must go here once on your travels as I can guarantee you will go back again to explore more of the area

Excellent site which is why we have been back numerous times. You can find your own quiet spot as there is simply loads of space at the location. There is no problem finding peace and solitude. The short walk into Hay allows you to explore the market town and surrounding countryside. if you are lucky to be there on a Wednesday then the Thursday market is not to be missed along with the newly renovated castle. After which a stroll around Hay-on-Wye and the peaceful river and then a short walk back to the site to simply chill out. Great site - Great Owners who care Check out our YouTube channel Getaway Geese where we have several videos on visits if you need convincing further

Lovely tranquil site

We stayed for 3 nights in June and had a wonderful stay in this quiet but very convenient site. We wanted a site without hookups etc but also wanted to be able to stroll into Hay on Wye for its great shops and pubs and this site was perfect. The site itself is spacious with plenty of room between pitches and is extremely well maintained. We were able to get a lovely quiet spot in the little field over the bridge which was perfectly accessible for our 6metre motorhome. Lynda popped over to check that we were OK when we arrived and was very helpful with advice on Hay and the local area. All in all a great site and we’ll definitely be back.

One of our favourites!

This is a lovely site, and one I'm sure those who love it don't want a good review, as selfishly we want it all to ourselves! BUT it isn't fair to Linda and her family. Large meadow✔ off-grid✔ walking distance to town and good walks✔ historic town✔ takeaways, pubs and restaurants✔ easy to book✔ great welcome from Dad, Pete the Greet✔ ...If Carlsberg did campsites... We WILL be back! Please follow the directions given and don't follow satnav!

Lovely quiet site with great access to Hay-on-Wye

We really enjoyed our stay here, it won’t get crowded and is a lovely quiet location. Very close to the shops and restaurants in Hay-on-Wye so perfect as an exploration base. We would definitely come back again if in the area.

Second visit

When I need some serious RnR I look for a site such as Dark Orchard. I parked over the little bridge, next to a babbling brook, and had three nights of peace and quiet. I hardly needed the provisions that I took, since there are so many fine places to eat in the nearby town. Everyone was very welcoming, the food was excellent and I even found a back-street artisan bakery that sold me the best sourdough wholemeal seeded bread I've ever eaten. Walks along the river, to the shingle beach, were refreshing and a visit to the castle and its viewing platform was most interesting. Thanks to Peter for his traditional welcome and to Lynda and family for the well-organised booking system.

Top site with own mobile app

Lovely place to stay. Really spacious campsite where you can spread out and go over the little bridge into another field if you want. The app was amazing, I wish all sites had this. It covered everything from really clear directions to the site, places to see and eat at in Hay on Wye, and walks and cycle routes for the surrounding area, which really made everything easy. Peter was lovely and a mine of information. Only 5 minutes walk into Hay and there are lots of lovely walks in the area direct from the campsite. Would definitely stay again.

Cracking site

To reiterate other comments, beautiful site tucked away in the village with just a 5 min walk in. Didn't actually meet any of the owners as was out a bit but not an issue. Loads of space to spread out and we were alone in the over the bridge but having just a dinky MH. Easily the most professional CL website and booking system I have come across. 2 tiny neg points, the main gate hatch needs looking at, bit me on the thumb twice and no info with what to do with waste water that I could find, otherwise perfect and many thanks for having us, will set come back. Richard and Tracy.
