Lovely site

Booked two nights at the end of August. Lovely site with lots of space. Lynda and Peter were very friendly. Hay on Wye is very close, as was a Co-op, and some lovely walks. Only slight problem was the approach past the cottages, where cars were parked on both sides. One had to be moved, but the owner was not willing to move it too far, which made access difficult. A single track leads into a lovely large field which is well screened from houses. There is only one tap and elsan point which unfortunately three units had camped close to, so driving to the tap was not possible. Perhaps a tap near the information hut would be useful?, away from where people may park. Otherwise had a lovely peaceful stay.

Just what was needed

Lovely two night stay so peaceful. Short bimble into Hay for shopping and an evening walk by the river. Met the owners very welcoming. Would we stay again absolutely loved the simplicity of the site.

Tranquil and Peaceful

Stayed here for 2 nights, what a beautiful and secluded site, with plenty of space for 5 units. Sitting outside our Motorhome in absolute tranquility, it’s hard to believe that Hay town is less than field away (as the crow flies). Really handy for a short stroll into town, with its many quirky book shops, plus others and cafes etc, or longer riverside walks along the wye. We were there for the Thursday which coincides with the weekly food market - some really nice produce to be had, well worth a trip into town for, but get there early as things go quickly such is the quality and popularity. Would recommend this site to all who want that peacefulness but on the doorstep of such a lovely and picturesque town. Lynda, the site owner is very welcoming, and her dad Peter, also very welcoming, is a hive of information on where to go and what to see - such a delightful place.

Hot hot hot

Lovely site & even managed to find some shade during the 2nd heatwave of this summer. An added bonus was a cooling swim in the Wye on our morning dog walk - we took towels & cozzi with us. Linda & Peter very welcoming hosts and are mines of local information. Loved the sound of the brook to soothe into sleep! Hope to be back before too long.

Beautiful peaceful CL, fantastic location.

We recently stayed for two nights trying our Basecamp2 out off grid for the first time. The first 50mtrs off the main road is interesting because of the narrowing on the lane, as others have pointed out. But we didn’t have a problem in our little Basecamp, and there were larger units than us on site. ‘Pete the greet’ - Lynda’s father was lovely. Lynda is equally nice and extremely helpful. If you’re after a peaceful site, that’s tucked away and feels secure, if you don’t mind the challenge of the tight section on entry, you’ll absolutely love this CL. A couple of minutes walk from the centre of town, a couple of minutes walk to a reasonably sized CO-OP. Really nicely spaced out because you can choose where you pitch. Another Basecamp on site with us which was fab. All in all a perfect stay, we will definitely go back. Thanks Lynda for being an excellent host.

5 nights in August

everything about the site and experience was great for us (admittedly we have small basecamp caravan so no access issues for us). Quietness of site, access to town, help and info from hosts, surrounding countryside was perfect. Lyn and Peter were incredibly helpful and friendly. We certainly hope to return at some point in the not too distant future.

Great Site.

Excellent site, plenty of space and well maintained. Very nice owners. This site is within easy walking distance to the town, river and local pubs. Stayed here several times.

Lovely site

Stayed 2 nights on this lovely well kept site. Was met by Pete the Greet who kindly suggested places to see in Hay whilst we were there. Large field with no EHU so units are able to space out and park up where they want. The turning in at Dulas Terrace is quite narrow but easily managed by our 6m Motorhome. Great location for exploring Hay on Wye and lovely walks along the river, we will definitely visit again when in the area.

Lovely CL in great location

Very easy to check availability, book and pay (using Apple Pay) through the CL Booking app and owner’s website. Plenty of email and website information on how to get there and what to do in the Hay area. The grass site has no toilets or electric hook-ups and is flat, spacious, peaceful, dog friendly and very well kept. We had a friendly and informative welcome from Peter, the owner’s father. It’s a short walk into Hay, with a wealth of interesting independent shops, pubs and restaurants, and there is an excellent street market on Thursdays selling artisan food and crafts. There is also a Co-op supermarket within short walking distance of the site. Hay has some excellent walks, particularly alongside the river towards The Warren where there are beaches. The riverside track is also the location for a free park run style 5K staged every Saturday at 9am. We have a pop top camper van and had no trouble in finding a sunny pitch to keep our leisure battery well charged up by solar panel. Dark Orchard is a textbook example of how to run a CL.

Perfection

Fourth visit to this wonderful site and will keep on returning. Beautifully maintained grounds with a brook running through the middle, plenty of room to pitch up where you want without feeling you are too close to another unit and just a 5 minute walk from the centre of Hay. Fantastic owners who make you feel most welcome and are willing to offer advice on the local area and its surroundings. Would fully recommend for a stop of any length and hope to be back again soon.
