A little gem!

Very quiet site with plenty of space, yet within easy walking distance of Hay on Wye and a nearby well stocked Co op supermarket. We experienced a very friendly welcome from 'Peter the greeter' who is also knowledgeable about the local area. Despite the instructions in the CAMC handbook, the lane used to access the site is very narrow and easily missed and the approach to the site gate can be tricky for large outfits. We echo the views of other reviewers about the tight entrance /exit, however, if you can get in......... you will not be disappointed.

An Oasis of Tranquility

Dark Orchard is a lovely little site - earlier reviews describe it perfectly so rather than repeat these I will just reinforce that the location is perfect; take care at the entrance and the owners are indeed very welcoming, friendly and approachable. Bookings are taken by Lynda & Chris whilst the main "meeter and greeter" is Peter - who has a fund of local knowldge and some very interesting stories. During our recent stay we enjoyed watching a pair of bluetits feeding their young in a nearby nesting box. We also found the site notice board contained useful local information and can recomend Sunday lunch at the nearby Pandy Inn, Dorstones. Dark Orchard is one of our favourite sites and we hope to be able to return in the future.

Well worth a visit

Spacious slightly sloping site which is obviously well tended. Although it is only yards to the small town of Hay and it amenities you feel you are out in the countryside. Very tranquil and quiet at night with just the babbling stream at the bottom of the site. Separate water and waste water points and recycling bins that provide the basic needs but you need to be self contained as there are no other facilities. Footpaths to get right out into the countryside are very nearby and if you are very energetic will take you up onto the black mountains. Access is a bit tight but should be manageable with care. We will be making a return visit.

This is a little gem

We were touring so only stayed one night. Site was spacious and clean. We met Peter who gave us a warm welcome. He was very chatty and friendly along with his daughter, Lynda, who was equally as friendly. This site is quiet and is right next to Hay on Wye so makes it a perfect location to walk into the town. Our dogs loved the local walks along the river . We have a 7.5 metre in length motor home and although the entrance to the site was a bit tight it is managable so long as you are careful. The site is reasonably flat and has loads of space which we found was advantageous with having two dogs. I highly recommend this site .

A hidden gem

Tucked away on the edge of town this site is the ideal location for exploring Hay on Wye, taking the Wye River walks or enjoying the surrounding countryside. Being tucked away it is not the easiest to find but the owners do a great job with directions and signposting the gate. Don't be put off by the narrow track we got in easily in our motorhome and so did a large caravan and Landrover. The turn out again was a bit tight. We would definitely come here again it is all about the location. Plenty of dog walks and swimming in the river. Great coffee and food at The Granary in town and dog-friendly pubs. The site itself has a water point and waste which was great. The owners are friendly and around if needed. HIghly recommend

Dark Orchard

Dark Orchard is a lovely site. It is hard to beleive it is on the edge the town of Hay-on-Wye, it feels very rural and quiet. It is a flat field mostly surrounded by trees and with a small stream running along the edge which adds interest. The water and waste points appear to have been upgraded recently. Access is good though very large caravans might find the turn off the lane a bit sharp. The local CO-OP is conveniently close and the town is only 5 to 10 mins walk. Jonathan
