One of our favourites!

This is a lovely site, and one I'm sure those who love it don't want a good review, as selfishly we want it all to ourselves! BUT it isn't fair to Linda and her family. Large meadowâś” off-gridâś” walking distance to town and good walksâś” historic townâś” takeaways, pubs and restaurantsâś” easy to bookâś” great welcome from Dad, Pete the Greetâś” ...If Carlsberg did campsites... We WILL be back! Please follow the directions given and don't follow satnav!

Lovely quiet site with great access to Hay-on-Wye

We really enjoyed our stay here, it won’t get crowded and is a lovely quiet location. Very close to the shops and restaurants in Hay-on-Wye so perfect as an exploration base. We would definitely come back again if in the area.

Second visit

When I need some serious RnR I look for a site such as Dark Orchard. I parked over the little bridge, next to a babbling brook, and had three nights of peace and quiet. I hardly needed the provisions that I took, since there are so many fine places to eat in the nearby town. Everyone was very welcoming, the food was excellent and I even found a back-street artisan bakery that sold me the best sourdough wholemeal seeded bread I've ever eaten. Walks along the river, to the shingle beach, were refreshing and a visit to the castle and its viewing platform was most interesting. Thanks to Peter for his traditional welcome and to Lynda and family for the well-organised booking system.

Top site with own mobile app

Lovely place to stay. Really spacious campsite where you can spread out and go over the little bridge into another field if you want. The app was amazing, I wish all sites had this. It covered everything from really clear directions to the site, places to see and eat at in Hay on Wye, and walks and cycle routes for the surrounding area, which really made everything easy. Peter was lovely and a mine of information. Only 5 minutes walk into Hay and there are lots of lovely walks in the area direct from the campsite. Would definitely stay again.

Cracking site

To reiterate other comments, beautiful site tucked away in the village with just a 5 min walk in. Didn't actually meet any of the owners as was out a bit but not an issue. Loads of space to spread out and we were alone in the over the bridge but having just a dinky MH. Easily the most professional CL website and booking system I have come across. 2 tiny neg points, the main gate hatch needs looking at, bit me on the thumb twice and no info with what to do with waste water that I could find, otherwise perfect and many thanks for having us, will set come back. Richard and Tracy.

Peter is an absolute star

Really well placed for Hay, peaceful, very relaxing and welcoming. Peter, who overseas operations from his bungalow next to the site, is an absolute delight to chat to. Worth a stay here just to spend some time with him! His daughter Lynda who runs the site is equally charming and full of useful information about the local area. I wouldn’t want to stay anywhere else in the area and that includes a hotel! Thanks a million and see you again.

Easily in our top 5 sites

This site is a little gem. A stones throw from the beautiful town of Hay on Wye and with lovely walks (or runs in our case) along the river, Ofas Dyke and stunning countryside. The site itself is very peaceful and very well kept. The owners are great and always give you a good welcome.

Perfect

What a lovely site, possibly my favourite CL so far, a perfect peaceful location yet only a 5 minute walk into the town and to a lovely riverside walk. It was lovely to meet Lynda and Pete the greet, thank you for all of the local information, will definitely visit again.

Just right!

This C.L is just right for a short break or longer stay. Its very close to Hay for cafes and shops, yet equally there are many walks straight from the site. There is so much space for 5 units-we parked over the tiny bridge in the smaller field and it was like having our own private site. True there are no facilities other than CDP and water, but we all have facilities in our vans so make us of them! The site owner is very helpful and friendly, and her Father is a delight, he lives overlooking the site and welcomes everyone personally. I just can't fault this place-lovely!

Our favourite CL

We love this place. We've stayed here twice, it's a real gem. Off grid living in a huge field. Total peace and tranquility yet only a short walk into Hay-on-Wye. A fabulous mix of culture, cafes and restaurants as well as gorgeous places to run, road cycle and dog walking. The owners are super helpful and the site is superbly well tended. I can only reiterate what everyone else has said, I'd have no hesitation in reccommending.
