Pre-arrival texts

I’ve heard of a few people who have received texts just before their booking start dates reminding them of the 1300 arrival time. I’m told the wording makes it clear they will be turned away if they arrive early. This is in addition to the usual booking reminder emails.

I’m wondering if CAMC is taking steps to curb early arrivals. Has anyone here received a text?

I can't see that at all, it's a bit like saying people speed because there is a set limit.

The club doesn't drive their outfit, the club doesn't plan their routes and/or timings, people do and they are the only ones responsible for arriving early.

I can't even remember what I said ... it was obviously really BAD cos it was moderated away!

Quibbling about five or ten minutes seems an odd way to start a holiday. I'm sure if I checked between my watch, my husband's watch, the time on our dash and the time on my mobile phone, there would easily be a five minute discrepancy between them.

There are a multitude of reasons why people might arrive slightly early or slightly late - watch discrepancies, intermittent signals, differences in ETA from satnav to Google maps, an errant flock of sheep or a surprisingly quiet patch of road, the site postcode directing to further than the actual site entrance. We've had all of the above over the last few weeks.

We never aim to be at a site for 1pm. Sitting in a queue is not my idea of fun. But I'm not so jaded to think everyone is trying to take advantage. It's human nature that some will be but the majority of members will just be trying to have a nice break.

Your post struck me as being "real world", like you my devices often have slightly different times. I don't suppose enough to cause me to be black listed!!!! I imagine the Club are now desperately re-writing the "Before you leave home" instructions to include synchronisation all devices showing a timewink

I am beginning to think that 1.00pm is not the correct arrival time, it is now after 1.00pm,  which does have a subtle difference.

Perhaps the Club should say that there is no movement on site between 12.30 and 1.00pm, in or out,  and the site gates will be closed for that period.

if/when this club allocates people a pitch, like the other club does, there'll be no advantage in arriving early because there'll be a pitch on somewhere on the site with their name on it. But people will still want to arrive earlier rather than later so they can do what they want to do!

Would all those that wish this club was like the other club please stick with the other club and leave this club as it is there are many of us who are happy with it as is.

I use both! Generally for a motorhome owner and being over 65, the C&CC has the edge.

I agree 100%, real world 20th century. Modern tech means we don’t need to accept watching the steampunk sundial shadow clock type technology👍🏻

Basically the instructions to turn people away before 1pm is open to misinterpretation and is a poor customer care decision. It should, if used, relate to sites only where there is a safety issue involved. I don't know who made this decision but I see nothing wrong with a few arrivals waiting. These problems stem from letting people in too early previously. There is no reason to open the office until 1pm to new arrivals.

Reading through comments on here and also reviews some inappropriate actions are taking place eg sending vans down to the Dart ferry at Hillhead. This is a management decision (not on site) and I think it needs reviewing. Taking it to extremes if there is a roundabout outside a site entrance I presume vans could be directed on a circular course for ten minutes or so?!

If we arrive at a site five minutes early and there is room to wait we would expect to do just that as previously. If we arrive half an hour early, which we have done by mistake in the past I would expect the same. If I understood there would be no admittance till 1pm I would wait accordingly. There should be no need for site managers to engage further until 1pm unless there is an unforseen problem.

CAMC needs to get across the no admittance till 1pm in a customer friendly way on site without resorting to the present tactics.

If a site has no waiting or queuing room this must be clearly stated on booking. General arrival details just won't do, site specifics are very important.

Now that would just be silly ....

My wife is going to the hairdresser tomorrow but hasn’t had a pre arrival text. She thinks she can risk getting there without one but I have warned her that they might send her away if she arrives early. She says not and says one of the staff will bring her a coffee.  Is it any wonder we both gave up Club sites years ago for being so rule bound and time restricted? In 50 years I sometimes had to wait, but I never found another campsite anywhere where the staff sent me away to drive around the district.

It's all ok when retired, and you have all the time in the world, but we find the 1pm thing a royal pain in the rear. Thats one of my days off wasted hanging around to get access to the empty pitches. Yes some sites have bad access and I can see the reasoning there but the ones that don't, why not let folks get the empty pitches. I was at coniston a few months back and it's 10am access there and it was really good. Why anyone thinks 1pm is good baffles me.

As for little black books, and 3 strikes and your out.... I think enough people are leaving as it is with the crazy prices let alone regimentation.

We joined this Club nigh on three decades ago, and it only took us a couple of stays to realise that it was a very rules and regulations, everything in its place and a place for everything type of set up. Not particularly our thing at all, especially as we were adventurous mid 20’s at the time. But, it had certain things we needed, and over time we have adapted to all the you must do this, you must do that regime, as in the whole picture, most of it is designed for the general comfort of all users. I, like I presume many others, do wonder what is at the root of some of the changes, but, you either accept and go with them, occasionally gritting one’s teeth, or you find alternatives. Our alternatives have been mainly CLs, which is why we have remained Members.

What is bad management is the muddle of communications these last few months around the decision to make all arrivals 1pm, and the confirmation emails still stating 12-2pm. That’s catching out a few innocent travellers, and the poor staff are bearing the brunt.
