Cancellations

Well I have to say that the club seems to be turning into nothing more than a one-sided money making machine.

A month ago we booked a site for today for 8 nights, and were forced to make an instant £50 deposit to secure the pitch.

At 0855 Friday, the site rings me to tell me they are not opening this weekend (due to the weather - fair comment and understandable), but rather than just cancel the first two nights, they will cancel the full 8 nights "so you get your deposit back".

Well, over 24 hours later - and still no sign of my deposit re-appearing in my account. Guess it's going to be AT LEAST another 48 hours, because God forbid the club opens their offices at weekend!

We’ve discussed the holding of card details before and concluded it's perfectly OK providing the cardholder gives permission and the regs are complied with. After all, Amazon, PayPal and numerous other organisations are able to do it.

Very true but those organisations have the secure infrastructure in place too complie with PCI DSS. Smaller organisations like CAMC will use a card payment provider, like World Pay, to process card payments on their behalf. In practice that means when you are making a booking you are on the CAMC system, when you press the pay button you are automatically transferred to World Pays system where you enter your card details, you then get transferred back to the CAMC system which is told if the payment was successful or not. So at no time does the club see or hold your card details.

Yes, I agree about paying on line, but I meant day to day spending, the weekly food shop, fuelling the car etc. Can't really see any advantage of a credit card over a debit card for that sort of thing, given the low interest rate on savings/current accounts.

I pay exclusively with credit card M, I do it for the added protection. If any company at all stops me using credit a card I swerve the company completely due to its lack of confidence in itself, it is a red flag. We have the power of the banking industry with section 75 & it ameliorates attitudes to us the customer👍🏻

CAMC is quite a large multi million pound organisation which has to comply with financial services.

Do you know for a fact that camc uses a third party payment company or is it supposition on your part?

I agree payments of up to £100 are best made with a debit card as if needed one can take advantage of the Debit Card Chargeback Scheme; assuming your bank is a participant that is.

Payment of £100 or over are best made with a credit card as you can then if needed take advantage of Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act.

Chargeback can also be used when paying sums under £100 by credit card.
