Cancellations

Well I have to say that the club seems to be turning into nothing more than a one-sided money making machine.

A month ago we booked a site for today for 8 nights, and were forced to make an instant £50 deposit to secure the pitch.

At 0855 Friday, the site rings me to tell me they are not opening this weekend (due to the weather - fair comment and understandable), but rather than just cancel the first two nights, they will cancel the full 8 nights "so you get your deposit back".

Well, over 24 hours later - and still no sign of my deposit re-appearing in my account. Guess it's going to be AT LEAST another 48 hours, because God forbid the club opens their offices at weekend!

I cancelled one with Amazon recently, because I ordered the wrong thing and then reordered correctly. Two debits appeared as pending on my credit card, however only the correct one went on to be processed the other simply disappeared after a day or two. Some retailers just want to hang onto your money as long as possible and there really needs to be some legal limits set on the time taken for such refunds.

And Banks...I have just (today) completed my role as LPA and Executor of an Aunts estate... After the 10 weeks wait for Probate to be granted....two of the banks said they would process within 10 to 15 (working) days. The third bank released the funds the following day. The portfolio managers say between 4 to 6 weeks to sell the shares and process the documents..

True to their word, the CaMC have refunded a booking deposit today....exactly 10 days since cancellation.

I think it is probably unfair to lay blame at the electronic systems in use. What is more likely is that organisations have systems where the payment has to be authorised by a human, and probably polocies that the payment will be delayed by so many days beyond when it is due.  Computers do not work only 9 to 5 and take weekends off.
