Looks like we need to book before 5 December to avoid price increases.

I have put in a report asking if the club can clarify wether email confirmation of booking will be required to get the discount. As it does not say it will, but as BB points out, does not say it won't.

If it is there will be a lot of annoyed customers who do not keep them and perhaps have relied on my bookings. Also as I have already mentioned, if you have had to make a booking in two halves as it was across months, you receive no confirmation of the amendment. I would imagine that will apply to quite a few.

assuming members can negotiate they are entitled to a discount it then means that every site has to have to hand the the previous prices, for adults/child/service pitch charge (if that's changed) and extrapolate by the number of each and then by the number of applicable nights....while the queue forms behind...

Quoted text from BB's last missive.

I made a booking on 12th.November for a 1 night stay en route home from the ferry next year. The confirmation email quite clearly shows the price so all one has to do is produce your email.

I've only managed to retrieve two of my e mails but at least if it's on the phone you don't need to print it out, just produce the phone details.

After seeing the price increases i can only now assume the CAMC only wants to appeal to the richer members of society as it has now priced itself out our price ranges, having sat and looked at what we can and can't now afford for us to continue caravaning we have booked all our next years travels to private sites, in one case saving over £150.00 for a stay of two weeks, so no brainer, and what's more disturbing, it is an affiliated site.

After being a members for over 15 years we fear this will be our last with the club, become far to elitist.

WN, and that's fine....but not all have a printer, nor indeed a mobile device that shows mails....

"its on my laptop at home......"

even if you have the email, I'm sure there will be some 'checking'.

Moulesy suggested reverting prices at the till now, this is a perfectly valid (and speedy) recovery position...and, as the prices at the till are the ones we pay and would be the same as the ones we booked, all will be roses....

there will be a turnover impact until all is resolved but this will give the accounts team and IT team a bit of leeway to discuss what they really want to do and how they should implement it, because this is now an ingrained ongoing issue....price rises will now always occur between booking and arrivial for very many every year.

provided that they placate customers now and fully understand how to carry the booked price to the till, they can kill two birds etc....

once they're confident of the IT 'bit' they can then make this coming price change again as soon as the system is fixed..

ongoing, all pre-price change bookings will be charged at that correct price and they can put in as many price changes as they like each year (not advocating that, btw) and all will be correct at the till and My Bookings.

I can't see how the system can provide this info, unless wardens have access to old bookings at old prices...

why would these be available as they are the very thing that's missing...

in that case, it suggests the wardens will 'calculate' the discount applicable at the till....hmm...

and who says it will be applicable without a requirement to produce your booking with that date on it?

assuming members can negotiate they are entitled to a discount it then means that every site has to have to hand the the previous prices, for adults/child/service pitch charge (if that's changed) and extrapolate by the number of each and then by the number of applicable nights....while the queue forms behind...

That's my concern too, BB, how the wardens on arrival will be able to calculate the correct "old" price.

I've just had a look at another booking for Bolton Abbey.  I originally booked that for 6 nights for the end of October 2019, prior to going to York.  I amended that booking to 3 nights before the 5th of December.  The cost then was £19.50 per night for pitch+2.  The new price is now £21.90 per night, an increase of £2.40 per night, quite an increase, well over 10%.  Interestingly, the "From" price for the site is quoted as still being £19.50; yes, it is, for all of 1 night in 2019, and it's the last night it's open for the 2019 season, the night of the 3rd of November!!

It’s a long time since I preset any POS units, 15 years or more. But even back then each individual POS unit had the capacity for well over 100 preset buttons. More than enough to double up on two sets of prices, which might be the way out next year. Will still require proof of a pre or post 5th December booking date though.

Perhaps all it requires is linking some unique numbers, ie membership number of person who made booking (on membership card), the booking reference number given in both email and my profile confirmation, and then if, and it’s a big if, the POS units are linked to the central IT system at HQ, it can all be linked to give the date booked, and therefore the price to be charged. (This must be how sophisticated IT systems such as Tesco online work, and can update any variables.) I am sure online booking systems have come on a long way since my day’s tinkering with them, but it’s having the capacity to link the unique numbers that could speed things up?

Just pondering, not sure if it’s possible.....

I'm no IT expert and even less a businessman, but wouldn't the solution be for the club to hold its hands up to a monumental cock up, revert all bookings and prices to the previous ones and then introduce the new prices from January 2020? There might be a financial hit, but it might just placate members. Or is that totally impractical?

(Sorry if it's already been suggested, haven't had the patience to read through everything above! wink)

What, and admit that they've got something wrong. Definitely not in their vocabulary!
