Customer service award

I recently contacted the club regarding the attitude of two site wardens, which lacked empathy with the needs of their customers, and gave no apparent consideration as to whether discretion could be exercised.

I was surprised that a Regional Manager of an award winning organisation would include the following in their response,

”  You mention that this is the second time you have experienced such a welcome.I am afraid that this is what you will experience in future too”

I have on many occasions experienced an almost combative attitude from wardens.I on the other hand always endeavour to be polite and accommodating.I accept it may be a defect on my part,so I wonder if any other members can shed any light on this customer service issue

As someone who spent a working lifetime in the service industry, it occasionally pays to be slightly more assertive when dealing with an individual who might be wilfully disregarding advice previously given.

Whilst one should always try and maintain a professional approach, this doesn't always work with a tiny minority, who either think the rules don't apply to them (arrive after a certain time), or seem to think that the person delivering the service is somehow beholden to them, as in "I pay your wages". It seems that you didn't learn from your initial mistake, but have gone on to repeat it. My sympathies lie with the Wardens, they have a job to do, have done it. Not to your satisfaction, but you have now had that reinforced from a regional level. Your next move will determine just how reasonable you actually are. Be thankful a none member of staff didn't get involved and advise you in a less professional manner, just how irritating such behaviour is to everyone! wink

Can recall a "member" adviseing our friends after a little "misunderstanding that "of course yours is not a proper job is it"undecided

And as our friend replied "no before I retired I was on a proper salary with less hours, and a lot more respect for what I did"

But as he said when I asked why he did it the answer was "i enjoy the job and the majority members we meet"and also "what other job gives at my age the oportunity to see different parts of the country, with a "free pitch"

We don't have all the info from Steve but from the little that we do have David it seems that Steve is castigating a warden or two for doing their job and is upset when there manager supports them.

Steve I am afraid you are dealing with members here for whom the club can do no wrong and you should just be greatful that they allow you to use their sites which are to their minds the ultimate caravannig eaxperiance. When told to jump the answer should have been "how high"

David, just imagine yourself on a Club Site for an overnight stay on the way to catch a ferry overseas. You are all sorted for the off, looking forward to getting away, plenty of time to get to the ferry terminal, or so you think.......But no! You can't get off site, because a few individuals have decided that the Club's advice about not turning up early doesn't apply to them, and they are queuing, blocking the road, preventing others from getting out, never mind getting in! And in the course of conversation, you find that the people adding unnecessary stress to your day have done it before, in fact have had a polite if assertively worded letter around the issue. But you find on approaching them, that your concern isn't their concern, and no amount of polite suggestions will make them move. Well nigh impossible by now anyway, because others are now queuing and no one is going anywhere! Suddenly, it doesn't seem like a few members who can see no wrong in the Club, but you are in fact caught up in a rather selfish, me, me, me incident involving a tiny number of selfish people.

We weren't catching a ferry luckily when it happened to us, but we did have to wait a good while, and only got out then because I stood in front of one desperate van owner, to prevent him creeping ever forward, and it just gave us room to sneak out!

Good to see positive, well thought out, contributions to the discussion like that one, David. Well done! undecided

I presume if you are a complete and utter nuisance to the club and keep ignoring the rules guidance you will cease to be a member. Most places have some sort of rules, for the safety and convenience of all concerned.

Customer service award?

Well for Telephone staff at Head Office yes - but then they are young and many of them ladies. For site wardens the ones I remember were middle aged men without previous customer facing experience.  I always used to wonder why the Club didn't employ younger staff to run sites - young people have inter personal skills which are so much better.
