Excessive site fees

Just returned from Chester Fair Oaks site, one night, £31.30 !!, I nearly choked on my dentures, It was our first trip out this year, only able to book something last minute.Ok, apparently, our over night stay was classed as still in  the 'High' season, but £31.30 per night (two adults) to stay in my own caravan is ridiculous. The club is in danger of  killing the goose that layed the golden egg. it's easy sometimes to forget that we have also paid a membership fee for the privilege of being charged so much.

never one to resist a challegne and help a fellow member.

club sites are within £25-30 pernight, I've found two sites that charge £38.50 and £43!, oh and thats now not in July. Like I said, club sites are in the middle, but no one is forced to pay the fees they set, and as two threads on here have shown this week, they continue to be popular.

Thank you Corners.

I don't know where those sites are, but the non-Club site we have just stayed at in North Devon was £106 for the week - about £15/night......and that was for a fully serviced, bookable pitch.

As you say, Club sites in the area were about £25/night and that didn't include fully serviced (if they even have any).

We checked out a couple of Club sites in the area and both were in inferior locations to the one we stayed at (which had views down the valley to the beach).

yes, there are cheaper sites than club sites and no doubt as good as club sites, but there is always the 'problem' of not being entirely sure of the quality before you get there? With a club site you know ehat you are getting, at least for me anyway. An example of this was Briarfields thread (?) their website photos and DavidK's photos didn't really match up, and I would have been disappointed with the pitch size had I arrived for a long stay, but that is just my view anyway.

Very true, Corners. That's why I read lots of reviews and sought opinions on here and other web sites before booking. I was put off the Damage Barton site (affiliated to CC I think) by those comments.

Funny thing was, one chap recommended the chosen site to us on another forum. I posted a 'thankyou' to him after we got home. Turned out he was pitched about 6 spaces from us for part of our stay!

(and another member on this forum was pitched next to us for our final night Laughing)

Coincidences, eh?

Just returned from Chatsworth and Castleton. Both sites of typical CC standard. Both sites had vacancies over the week ends even now.Mid week, huge vacancies. What was striking was the quality of the showering facilities, tired and very confined. Very much below the standards we have seen on every commercial site used since 2015.

Exactly how we find CC sites, Fisherman.

Generally tidy (other than the lady washing dog poo from her trainers at the waste point this morning!) but toilet and shower facilities showing their age and the effects of only being cleaned once per day, weeds growing through the hardstandings and grass rarely cut.

None of these are a problem to us at all, but there again I don't expect to pay top whack for these rather 'average' sites.

I'm really starting to wonder, when people say "you know what to expect from CC sites" what exactly they expect.......fairly average sites for higher than average prices?

I am surprised if there were vacancies at Chatsworth and can only assume they were cancelations as it is generaly almost impossible to get in there. We are off th Chester tomorrow and it looks to be boked up almost everyday. We were going to set off today but not a lot going. Most sites are pretty near booked up this weekend which suggests the criticism is not as valid as some think.

If the club have the sites near full then it is difficult to say they are too high with fees. Basically if you do not find the fees reasonable you should abstain to show your feelings.

At this time of year my comments were not about the fees per say but the way CC sites are falling behind the commercials in quality. My critisism of fees is during the off peak periods when the club should be clamouring for income. We have an old welsh saying " A pound in winter is worth two in Summer"

Not been to Castleton for a while, so cannot comment. However, would strongly disagree that the facilities at Chatsworth are tired and confined. They are also well above the ratio of pitches to facilities, compared to equal price commercials we have stayed on. The one complained about Chatsworth I have is, in the winter months the roads get very messy due to the stone block / grass fronts to some of the pitches. These should be done away with.
