Excessive site fees

Just returned from Chester Fair Oaks site, one night, £31.30 !!, I nearly choked on my dentures, It was our first trip out this year, only able to book something last minute.Ok, apparently, our over night stay was classed as still in  the 'High' season, but £31.30 per night (two adults) to stay in my own caravan is ridiculous. The club is in danger of  killing the goose that layed the golden egg. it's easy sometimes to forget that we have also paid a membership fee for the privilege of being charged so much.

Where unless there are a couple of cancelations it was found either of the mentioned sites had vacancies as they are full  at w/ends except sundays which most site will show pitches as that is the day most pitches become vacant, and as for "tired" that does not seem to be the concesus of the majority of reviews over the whole network which has a rolling programme of upgrades ,but then with both clubs each having far more sites than any other organisation, who use other income to sustain their few sites and use loss leaders off peak, to the detriment of families at peak times, where as both major clubs(site operators) do not subsidise the mostley well off users at off peak times

One of my Husbands biggest complaint of CC facilities  is that they feel cramped with narrow corridors with twist and turns. I appreciate the smallness of the facilities is probably because of the need to heat the block but they do not compare well with many sites we have visited abroad. In this case a comparison with abroad is IMO valid

P.S  I only have the one husband Laughing

Generally happy with site facilities and cleanliness

I'm also very happy with the facilities and the cleanliness......it's just the prices I don't like.

As said before........3 star sites, 5 star prices.......

And just to explain my last post (because some seem to have a problem with reading earlier explanations Wink).......I have no problem with a 3 star rating, because star ratings represent the facilties provided.

I have no need for pools, bars, restaurants, play areas, slot machine arcades etc. But if they aren't provided (as they aren't on most CC sites) and the investment hasn't been made in any more than a level field with hardstanding pitches and toilet blocks, then I don't see why I should be paying for them.

As I keep saying, the CC charge 5 star prices for 3 star facilities.

Again, as I have said many times, I have reduced the number of times I use CC sites considerably.....at a time when we are taking more and more holidays in the caravan.

I feel that this (together with explaining my actions on here) is somewhat better than to simply keep paying the ever increasing (and now well out of all poportion) charges.

But I guess it still takes some people a long while to see the obvious.......?

but the overall star ratings for the CC sites (see the site info pages) do not represent facilities offered like those attributed to hotels! They are an overall rating of a visitor's experience!

I wonder if there is a difference between sites owned outright by the CC and their leasehold ones? We had a few days at the Buxton site recently, it's leasehold and (I think) the lease is due for renewal. It was only partially open due to electricity supply problems, there was linited use in the facility blocks and it seemed a bit below par. We paid much the same rates as at other sites but did not have quite the same standards. Or maybe that's a separate issue?
