Excessive site fees

Just returned from Chester Fair Oaks site, one night, £31.30 !!, I nearly choked on my dentures, It was our first trip out this year, only able to book something last minute.Ok, apparently, our over night stay was classed as still in  the 'High' season, but £31.30 per night (two adults) to stay in my own caravan is ridiculous. The club is in danger of  killing the goose that layed the golden egg. it's easy sometimes to forget that we have also paid a membership fee for the privilege of being charged so much.

Five star sites have covered heated swimming pools, outdoor water parks with slides and lazy rivers,  restaurants, hairdressers, saunas, shops, shuttle buses to town or beach, indoor wet weather activities for children, drying rooms for clothes, private family bathrooms, communal barbecue areas, and the like. Let's not kid ourselves that the Club runs five star sites.

..Not short of most of that at Hillhead, but that if posts on here are to be taken notice of ,is not what a large section of memers do not want, and are happy with and are quite happy with how things are

Well, apart from the outdoor water park, hairdressers, saunas, shops, shuttle buses, drying rooms, private bathrooms, communal bbq areas.........etc.

But the point is, JVB.......you are correct that a lot of people don't want all those things (I don't want/ need them but it matters not to me if they are provided for others)........but if a site doesn't provide these facilities they are not 5 star sites.

The CC sites are not 5 star sites, but they charge 5 star prices.......that is the point.

...So maybe thats why a few people go to these  "5* sites ?"with the eye watering prices they charge families, compared to the two major clubs, who the majority of members want ,and anything 5* is in the eye of the persons who use them

To me five stars relates to the quality of the site and the club gets that on most. I see no reason why a bar or swimming pool is needed but if there is one then it has to be first class to get fove stars not just be there.. Frankly I am out off by bars which often mean drunks and usually noisy ones.

On the issue of star ratings......I read a lot of hotel reviews and a lot of people comment on their star rating based on how pleasant (or otherwise) the hotel looked. There is a lot of misunderstanding about how this works.

Star ratings don't work like that.

A hotel gets more stars based on how many bars and restaurants it has, how many pools, whether it has an overnight reception, what equipment is provided in the rooms, whether there are pictures on the walls.......etc.

It has little or nothing to do with whether the hotel is clean and tidy.

The higher the star rating, the more the hotel operator has spent and the more they can charge, generally.

It's just the same with caravan sites.

But the CC want to provide clean and tidy, fairly basic sites (all of which is fine by me) which makes them maybe 3 star.

But they charge 5 star prices.

That is the problem.

club sites are in the middle, in a popular area there are cheaper sites and there are more expensive (examples on demand)

As i did mention both clubs do not for the majority of family members who fill most of them during the peak periods show, charge 5* prices ,its the companies who do loss leaders out of these periods, and who then charge eye watering prices for the same peak periods ,who as Ian says, have put in more things to keep people on their sites, to spend even more money, for a minority of the UK compared to the clubs

Examples in North Devon please, Corners......

do your own homework Ian, I only research places I go to. Lakes clubs sites, about £30, others round about £40-£50 per night.

But think on this, if clubs sites charge too much for one then don't go,
